On 06:46:13 CET on 12 January 1956, a rather unusual earthquake measuring 5.8 on the moment magnitude scale struck just southeast of Budapest under Dunaharaszti at a depth of 15 km. The earthquake had a maximum European macroseismic intensity of VIII (Heavily damaging). The earthquake was felt throughout Hungary other than the eastern and western edges of the country. The event was preceded by 31 other weaker events. There was widespread damage to homes and other structures; 2 died and 48 were injured. The earthquake was one of the strongest to ever strike Hungary and the worst during the 20th century.

Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (Hungarian: Budapest Liszt Ferenc Nemzetközi Repülőtér) (IATA: BUD, ICAO: LHBP), formerly known as Budapest Ferihegy International Airport and still commonly called just Ferihegy (Hungarian pronunciation: [ˈfɛrihɛɟ]), is the international airport serving the Hungarian capital city of Budapest. It is by far the largest of the country's four commercial airports, ahead of Debrecen and Hévíz–Balaton. The airport is located 16 kilometres (8+1⁄2 nautical miles) southeast of the centre of Budapest (bordering Pest county) and was renamed in 2011 in honour of the famous Hungarian composer Franz Liszt (Hungarian: Liszt Ferenc) on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of his birth. The facility covers 1,515 hectares (3,744 acres) and has two runways.It offers international connections primarily within Europe, but also to Africa, to the Middle East, and to the Far East. In 2019, the airport handled 16.2 million passengers. The airport is the headquarters and primary hub for Wizz Air and base for Ryanair. In 2012 it experienced a significant drop in aircraft movements and handled cargo, primarily due to the collapse of Malév Hungarian Airlines earlier in the year, hence lost a large portion of connecting passengers. It had been the hub for Malév until the airline's bankruptcy on 3 February 2012.

Aeropark is an open-air aviation museum next to Ferenc Liszt International Airport, Budapest, Hungary. It is dedicated to the history of Hungarian civil aviation, featuring several types used by the now-defunct national airline Malév. Aeropark also has a flight simulator for visitors and a gift shop with plane models and various Malév-memorabilia. Most of the planes of Aeropark are accessible for visitors with wheelchairs. Aeropark is a regular participant in the annual event Long Night of Museums.

Rákoskert is a former town in Hungary now part of District XVII of Budapest until it was united with Budapest on 1 January 1950. The population here is around 9372.

District XVII of Budapest (known as Rákosmente) is a suburban district of Budapest on the left bank of the Danube, in the eastern part of the capital. It is Budapest's largest district, with an area of 54.82 km2, and home to nearly 90,000 people, making it the seventh most populous district of Budapest. Towns that were different in nature, but closely connected, were annexed to the capital in 1950 as part of the Greater Budapest plan. It is one of the most beautifully located districts of Pest, which is partly located as high as the 235 meters Gellért Hill. As the district is part of the Pest Plain, which gradually rises from the Danube to the east, the district's area is almost entirely hilly. The 241 meter high Erdő Hill, the highest point of the Pest side and the Pest Plain is also located here.The majority of the district is green area, in terms of per capita green and forest areas, the 2nd district of Budapest, the Hegyvidék and as well District XVII is the best-served districts of the capital. There are several nature reserves in its area, such as the 40-hectare Merzse-marsh full of plant rarities and rich birdlife, the vast green area of the Keresztúr Forest, and Lake Naplás, the second largest nature reserve in Budapest with 150 hectares, is also one of the most valuable ecological areas in the area. District XVII was the most popular district of Budapest according to the moves in 2019, 1045 more people settled here down than who moved out. The population of the suburban district growth as a result of suburbanization and still increasing today, despite the fact that the population of Budapest has decreased by hundreds of thousands in recent decades. Due to the population growth, new housing estates areas were built on previously green or agricultural areas, and the existing ones were expanded. The district has high level of public transport supply, with 67, 97E, 161, 161A, 169E, 261E bus lines taking 15–20 minutes from the western part of the district and around 25 minutes from the eastern part to arrive directly to Örs vezér tere and to Metro Line M2, while with 68, 201E, 202E buses Kőbánya-Kispest metro station and Metro Line M3 is directly accessible. The area is easily accessible from the city center at night with 956 and 990 night buses, which covering almost the entire district. In addition, there are six train stops in the immediate vicinity of the residential areas, from where can be reached the Budapest Keleti railway station in 15 minutes with modern suburban trains.

The Government of National Unity (October 1944 – May 1945) was a Nazi-backed puppet government of Hungary, which ruled the German-occupied Kingdom of Hungary during the Second World War in eastern Europe. After the joint coup d’état with which the Nazis and the Arrow Cross Party overthrew the government of the Regent of Hungary, Miklós Horthy (r. 1920–1944), the Arrow Cross Party established the coalition Government of National Unity (Nemzeti Összefogás Kormánya) on 16 October 1944.As the national government, the Arrow Cross Party installed Ferenc Szálasi as the prime minister of the Government of National Unity and as the Leader of the Nation, the head of state of Hungary. As a wartime ally of Nazi Germany, Prime Minister Szálasi's government readily executed and realised the Holocaust in Hungary (1941–1945); thus, in seven months, the Arrow Cross regime killed between 10,000 and 15,000 Hungarian Jews in the country, and deported 80,000 Jewish women, children, and old people for killing at the Auschwitz concentration camp.

Rákoscsaba is a former town in Hungary now part of District XVII of Budapest. Rákoscsaba was united with Budapest on 1 January 1950. The Hijackers Bike Park was opened in 2013 in Rákoscsaba.

HiJackers Bike Park is one of the biggest dirt bikeparks in Budapest, Hungary. The park was opened in 2013 in Budapest's 17th district, in Rákoscsaba. The opening of the park made it possible for its founders to practice their favourite sport dirt jump legally.

Rákoskeresztúr (German: Gerersdorf) is a former town in Hungary now part of District XVII of Budapest. Rákoskeresztúr was united with Budapest on January 1, 1950.
