Toward

Toward Point Lighthouse is on the southern extremity of the Cowal Peninsula, near the village of Toward, Argyll and Bute, Scotland. There has been a lighthouse here since 1812. Toward Point Lighthouse was completed in 1812. It was built by Robert Stevenson (1772–1850) for the Cumbrae Lighthouse Trust. Two lighthouse keepers' houses were added in the later 1800s. A white building on the foreshore housed the foghorn mechanism, originally a steam engine and then diesel engines. The foghorn was taken out of operation in the 1990s. The keeper's cottages were sold in 2012 and are now a private home.Toward Point marks the extreme south-westerly point of the Highland Boundary Fault as it crosses the Scottish mainland. The Highland Boundary Fault does not run through Toward Point, but about one kilometre to the west it can be located on the Toward shore by the presence of Serpentinite and the sudden change from younger sedimentary rocks to much older metamorphic rocks, notably Psammite.

Castle Toward (Scottish Gaelic: Caisteal an Toll Àird) is a nineteenth-century country house in Argyll and Bute, Scotland. Built in 1820 by Glasgow merchant Kirkman Finlay, it replaced the late medieval Toward Castle, formerly the ancestral home of the Clan Lamont. It was greatly extended in the early 20th century, and in the Second World War it served as HMS Brontosaurus. After the war it was sold to Glasgow Corporation and was used as an outdoor education facility until its closure in 2014. After a failed community buyout, Toward Castle and the estate were sold by Argyll and Bute Council to private owners in 2016. Castle Toward is a scheduled monument (LB5068).

Innellan is a village in Argyll and Bute, Scotland, on the western shore of the Firth of Clyde. It is four miles south of Dunoon.

Ascog (Scottish Gaelic: Àsgaig) is a small village on the Isle of Bute, within Argyll and Bute council area, Scotland. The village is within the parish of Kingarth, and is situated on the A844. It is located on the east coast of the island, about 2 km to the south east of Rothesay. It is largely residential. There are several historic buildings in the area, including Ascog House, Ascog Hall, and the Italianate style Balmory Hall. Loch Ascog lies to the west.

Ascog House is a large 17th-century mansion house at Ascog on the Isle of Bute, southwest Scotland. The house is in the care of the Landmark Trust, and is protected as a category B listed building. Balmory Hall lies just to the west of the house.

Balmory Hall is a category A listed Victorian Italianate mansion located near Ascog in the Isle of Bute, Scotland, just west of Ascog House. The hall is set within 6 acres (2.4 ha) of gardens. It is run as a privately owned guesthouse and reportedly features a 7-course breakfast.

Ardhallow Battery a Palmerston Fort on the slopes of Corlarach Hill on the Cowal peninsula, around 3km south of Dunoon, on the west coast of the Firth of Clyde, Scotland. Part of the local Clyde Defenses and the Scottish Coastal Defences. The construction contract was awarded to "The Aitkenhead Builders" in 1901 for a price of £16,000. The Battery is a Scheduled Monument. The site was used in both World Wars and decommissioned in 1956. There was also a coastal Battery on the east shore of the Firth of Clyde, the Cloch Point Battery was located on the slope above the Cloch Lighthouse. Enhanced and expanded for defence during the Second World War. It is also a Scheduled Monument: SM12803 The site is now occupied by the Cloch Caravan Park. During both World Wars, a defensive boom, known as the Cloch Point To Dunoon Anti-submarine Boom was in place. Remains of the Boom anchor points are also scheduled SM12802. These installationswere were built to protect the upper Firth of Clyde shipping and the numerous shipyards located on the lower reaches of the River Clyde.

The Mount Stuart visitor centre on the Bute estate, near Rothsay on the Island of Bute was designed by the architect Alfred Munkenbeck of Munkenbeck + Marshall, and was opened by Richard Attenborough in June 2001.

Loch Ascog is a small reservoir on the east coast of the island of Bute, in the council area of Argyll and Bute, Scotland. The loch supplies water to the town of Rothesay and the fishing rights are held by the Isle of Bute Angling Association. Loch Ascog is 44.7 hectares (110 acres) in extent. To the west is the much larger Loch Fad.

Mount Stuart House, on the east coast of the Isle of Bute, Scotland, is a country house built in the Gothic Revival style and the ancestral home of the Marquesses of Bute. It was designed by Sir Robert Rowand Anderson for the 3rd Marquess in the late 1870s, replacing an earlier house by Alexander McGill, which burnt down in 1877. The house is a Category A listed building.

Laudervale was a Victorian sandstone mansion near Dunoon, Scotland, most notable for being the home of Sir Harry Lauder.The house was located on Bullwood Road, a few hundred metres south of Bullwood. Built as Gerhallow House, it was bought by Harry Lauder and his wife from Douglas Granville Gossling on 20 May 1908. The couple disliked the existing name and by 1912 had renamed it to the more personalised Laudervale, carrying out in the intervening years a full restoration, including laying "beautiful mahogany parquet floors", the wood being a present after a tour of the Philippines. Lauder used the property as his principal residence from 1908 into the 1930s.After its sale, many years later, the subsequent owner fell asleep smoking, setting the house on fire, which burnt over half of it. It remained in a ruinous state until the 1980s when the house, the stable blocks, and the stone walls surrounding the park, were demolished. Most of the grounds were subsequently sold for housing development. The development there today preserves the Laudervale name.

Bishop's Glen Reservoir also known as Dunoon Reservoir used to be the source for drinking water for the town of Dunoon on the Cowal peninsula, Argyll and Bute, Scotland, a function now satisfied via Loch Eck. Records show that this impounding reservoir was created before 1880. The Balgaidh Burn is the main inflow and outflow. The angling of the Bishops Glen Reservoir is managed by the Dunoon and District Angling Club.
