Saltergate, officially the Recreation Ground, was the historic home of Chesterfield Football Club, and was in use from 1871 until the club's relocation in July 2010, a 139-year history that made it one of the oldest football grounds in England at the time of its closure. The name 'Saltergate' became predominant in popular usage from the 1920s.Tightly surrounded by housing, the football stadium was located near Chesterfield's town centre on the thoroughfare of the same name. The ground underwent only limited additional development after a new main stand was opened in 1936. Although plans to develop the site were explored, the club's fans ultimately voted in favour of pursuing a new ground in a 2003 ballot, with the site confirmed by a 2006 poll. The final Chesterfield fixture at Saltergate, a Football League Two game against Bournemouth, was held on 8 May 2010. From the 2010–11 season, the team switched to the new Palmer Stadium located in the Whittington Moor area of the town. An October 2010 publication from the club, Saltergate Sunset by Stuart Basson, chronicled the story of the ground.In January 2012, the football club sold the Saltergate site to Barratt Homes. Its demolition to make way for a new housing development began in April and was completed in July 2012.

Parkside Community School (formerly William Rhodes Secondary School) is a co-educational community secondary school, located in the Boythorpe area of Chesterfield in the English county of Derbyshire.As William Rhodes Secondary School, the Brass Band won the National Festival of Music for Youth on four occasions in the late 1970s. Squadron Leader Norman Crookes was the headmaster for 20 years from 1961. The school was renamed as Parkside in 1991 following a re-organisation of secondary schools in Chesterfield by the county council. The adjacent primary and junior schools retain their original name. As a community school, Parkside is administered by Derbyshire County Council, and offers GCSEs, BTECs, Cambridge Nationals and ASDAN qualifications as programmes of study for pupils. The school has developed a specialism in Mathematics and Computing.

The River Hipper is a tributary of the River Rother in Derbyshire, England. Its source is a large expanse of wetlands, fed by the surrounding moors between Chatsworth and Chesterfield, known as the Hipper Sick on Beeley Moor, which is part of the Chatsworth Estate. It then passes through Holymoorside and down into Chesterfield, just south of the town centre, before flowing into the River Rother. In July 2007, parts of Chesterfield flooded when the River Hipper burst its banks during a substantial storm that caused extensive flooding in North Derbyshire and South Yorkshire. The surrounding landscape is known as the Hipper Valley.

Queen's Park is a county cricket ground located in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, England and lies within a park in the centre of the town established for Queen Victoria's golden jubilee in 1887. It has a small pavilion and is surrounded by mature trees.The park is the home of Chesterfield CC and also played home to Derbyshire CCC for 100 years between 1898 and 1998, before the county team returned in 2006 after an 8-year absence. It was at one time surrounded by a banked cycle track. It is a small ground and slow to dry after rain, thus can provide a green wicket. The size of the ground however, lends itself to rapid scoring on good wickets.

Annunciation Church is a Roman Catholic Parish church in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. It was founded by the Society of Jesus in 1854. Located in Spencer Street, near Saltergate and off-Newbold Road, it was designed by the architect Joseph Hansom and is a Grade II listed building.

Boythorpe is a small suburb to the south-west of Chesterfield town centre in Derbyshire, England. It also borders Birdholme to its east, and Walton to its west. The area mainly consists of social housing, although Chesterfield's cricket ground is within the largest park, Queens' Park, which is located in Boythorpe on the edge of the town centre. Boythorpe has a large secondary school, Parkside Community School, which serves students aged 11–16, located on the district's main thoroughfare, Hunloke Avenue.

Chesterfield is a market town and unparished area in the Borough of Chesterfield, Derbyshire, England, 24 miles (39 km) north of Derby and 11 miles (18 km) south of Sheffield at the confluence of the River Rother and River Hipper. In 2011 the built-up-area subdivision had a population of 88,483, making it Derbyshire's second largest settlement after Derby. Its borough, including Whittington, Brimington and Staveley, had a population of 103,801 in 2011. In 2011 the unparished area had a population of 76,753. It has been traced to a transitory Roman fort of the 1st century CE. The name of the later Anglo-Saxon village comes from the Old English ceaster (Roman fort) and feld (pasture). It has a sizeable street market three days a week. The town sits on an old coalfield, but little visual evidence of mining remains. The main landmark is the crooked spire of the Church of St Mary and All Saints.

The street is a shopping district.Low Pavement, as well as the adjoining roads and the market square, is part of Chesterfield Town Centre Conservation Area. The road was also included in the Revitalisation that was awarded a European Heritage medal in 1981.

Chesterfield Market is an open-air market in the town of Chesterfield, Derbyshire, England. It consists of a large market square, with extensive stalls outside, selling fruit, flowers, clothing, hardware and groceries. The Market square stands between the streets of Low Pavement and High Street. The market is one of the largest open air markets in the country, and dates back to at least 1165. The original market square stood further north, close to the Church of St Mary and All Saints.
