Evangelical Church, Levoča

Levoča District (okres Levoča) is a district in the Prešov Region of eastern Slovakia. Until 1918, the district was part of Spiš County, a county of the Kingdom of Hungary.

The Basilica of St. James (Slovak: Bazilika svätého Jakuba) is a Gothic church in Levoča, Prešovský kraj, Slovakia. Building began in the 14th century. It is a Catholic parish church, dedicated to James the Apostle. The interior features several Gothic altars, including as the main altar the world's tallest wooden altar at 18.62 metres (61.1 ft) by the workshop of Master Paul of Levoča, completed in 1517. The church, the second largest in Slovakia, also houses well-preserved furniture and art work. The steeple dates from the 19th century. The church was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Levoča, Spiš Castle and the associated cultural monuments in 2009. It is also a Slovak National Monument. In 2015, Pope Francis declared the church a basilica minor.

The Ján Francisci-Rimavský Gymnasium in Levoča, Slovakia, is a four-year high school with general classes and an eight-year college with a focus on foreign languages. Students are eligible to attend upon completion of the fifth grade of elementary school. The school is situated in the historic centre of Levoča.

Levoča (; Hungarian: Lőcse; Rusyn: Левоча) is the principal town of Levoča District in the Prešov Region of eastern Slovakia, with a population of 14,256. The town has a historic center with a well-preserved town wall, a Gothic church with the tallest wooden altar in the world, carved by Master Pavol of Levoča, and many other Renaissance buildings. On 28 June 2009, Levoča was added by UNESCO to its World Heritage List.

Szepes (Slovak: Spiš; Latin: Scepusium, Polish: Spisz, German: Zips) was an administrative county of the Kingdom of Hungary, called Scepusium before the late 19th century. The Basilica of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Slovak: Bazilika navštívenia Panny Márie) in Levoča, Slovakia is located at the summit of Mariánska hora (English: Marian Hill), (Slovak pronunciation: [ˈmarijaːnska ˈɦɔra]; 781 m. above sea level), a hill above Levoča with views over the town and countryside. Built in its present form between 1906 and 1922, the church is the destination of an annual major pilgrimage.

Spišský Hrhov (Slovak pronunciation: [ˈspiʂskiː ˈɦr̩ɦɔw]; Hungarian: Görgő, pronounced [ˈɡørɡøː]) is a municipality and village in the Spiš region of Slovakia, between Levoča and Spišské Podhradie in Levoča District. It has a population of 1800, of which 350 are Roma, well integrated in the local community.

Dvorce (Hungarian: Szepesudvard) is a former village in the Levoča District in Slovakia. Dvorce was part of the Szepes county of the Kingdom of Hungary and was part of the Levoča District. After over 600 years, the village was evacuated and destroyed in the 1950s to make way for the Javorina military training area. Some of the fittings of the Evangelical (Lutheran) church of Dvorce, which was also destroyed, are preserved in the parsonage of the Evangelical Church, Levoča.Dvorce has been known by various names: in Hungarian as 'Dvorecz' (1869 place name), and 'Szepesudvard' (current usage) and in German as 'Burgerhof'.
