Acme, Michigan

Acme Township ( ACK-mee) is a civil township of Grand Traverse County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 census, the township population was 4,456, a slight increase from 4,375 at the 2010 census. The southwestern portion of the township is largely urbanized, due to its proximity to Traverse City. Much of the rest of the township is agricultural, with the area being a cherry growing hotspot. The township lies upon the East Arm of Grand Traverse Bay, a bay of Lake Michigan. Acme Township takes its name from the Greek word, acme, meaning "summit".

The John Pulcipher House, also known as the Country Hermitage Bed & Breakfast, is a private house located at 7710 US 31 North, in Acme Township, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.

Traverse City State Park, officially named Keith J. Charters Traverse City State Park, is a 47-acre (19 ha) state park in East Bay Township just east of Traverse City in the U.S. state of Michigan. The park is located on the southern shoreline of East Grand Traverse Bay, a bay of Lake Michigan, and is used mainly as a campground. US-31/M-72 runs between the park proper and a beach area; there is an overpass by way of which campers can get to the beach. The beach area has a playground, grills and picnic tables. The camping area has around 350 campsites, all with electricity. Other features include a dump and fill station, three bathroom buildings, and a recycling/trash center. To the south the park adjoins the TART Trail, a 10.5-mile bicycle trail that runs through Traverse City.On July 21, 2011, the Michigan Natural Resources Commission augmented the name of the park with that of Keith J. Charters, a local conservationist, hunter and angler who served on the commission from 1994 to 2010.

Grand Traverse County is located in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 census, the population was 95,238. The county seat is Traverse City. The county is part of the Traverse City micropolitan area, which also includes Benzie, Kalkaska, and Leelanau counties. Interlochen, home of the Interlochen Center for the Arts, is located in Green Lake Township. Grand Traverse County was originally known as Omeena County.

Yuba is a small unincorporated community in the Lower Peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan. Yuba is a part of Grand Traverse County, and is located in Acme Township along U.S. Highway 31. Yuba rests on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan's Grand Traverse Bay.

East Bay Charter Township is a charter township of Grand Traverse County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 10,663 at the 2010 census, up from 9,919 at the 2000 Census. The northern portion of the township is adjacent to Traverse City and is part of that city's urban area. The southern portion remains largely rural, with many small lakes.

West Rink at Centre ICE (originally Republic Rink) is a 1,800-seat indoor arena located in Traverse City, Michigan. It is used primarily for ice hockey, and is the home of the Traverse City North Stars hockey team. The Traverse City Central High School, Traverse City St. Francis High School, and Traverse City West High School hockey teams also play their home games there, and the Detroit Red Wings hold their training camp at the arena. West Rink is part of the Centre ICE Complex, which was built in 1997. The arena has been expanded twice. Its first expansion was in 2005 in order to accommodate the North Stars, and resulted in a permanent press box and the arena's luxury suite. The arena was expanded again in 2010, resulting in the addition of a mezzanine level with 180 seats, two NHL-sized locker rooms measuring 2,000 square feet (190 m2) each, a hospitality area and a trainer's room. The complex also welcomed the addition of a daycare center. The arena's Polar Bear Club contains seating for 64 fans on 16 tables.

Northwestern Michigan College (NMC) is a public community college in Traverse City, Michigan. Founded in 1951, it enrolls nearly 4,000 students. NMC offers associate degrees and professional certificates, bachelor's degrees through the Great Lakes Maritime Academy and Great Lakes Water Studies Institute, and bachelor's and master's degrees granted by partner universities through NMC's University Center. NMC has a branch campus on Grand Traverse Bay that houses the Great Lakes Culinary Institute, Great Lakes Maritime Academy, Great Lakes Water Studies Institute and Hagerty Conference Center. Another branch campus near Cherry Capital Airport is home to NMC's aviation and automotive service technology programs, and offers training in manufacturing, construction, renewable energy and information technology. NMC also has an observatory (the Rogers Observatory) and an ACEN (Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing) accredited nursing program that has a long-standing association with nearby Munson Medical Center. The campus is home to WNMC-FM, which began as a student organization in 1967, and is now a community radio station broadcasting at 90.7 FM.

Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City was established in 1945 and operates under the authority of the United States Coast Guard's Ninth District (USCG). It is situated on the southern end of Grand Traverse Bay in Northern Michigan at the Cherry Capital Airport in Traverse City, Michigan, United States. Since 1995, Air Station Traverse City has controlled and manned Air Facilities throughout southern Lake Michigan. The area of operations includes all of Lake Michigan and Lake Superior and most of Lake Huron.

Cherry Capital Airport (IATA: TVC, ICAO: KTVC, FAA LID: TVC) is a public use airport located two nautical miles (2.3 mi; 3.7 km) southeast of the central business district of Traverse City in Grand Traverse County, Michigan, United States. It is owned by Grand Traverse and Leelanau counties.It is included in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2017–2021, in which it is categorized as a non-hub primary commercial service facility.

The Dennos Museum Center is a fine art museum and cultural center located in Traverse City, Michigan on the campus of Northwestern Michigan College (NMC). Most notable for its permanent collection of Inuit art, the Dennos Museum opened in 1991 and features rotating exhibitions of Modern and Contemporary art. The museum consists of three changing exhibit galleries, a sculpture court, an Interactive Discovery Gallery for children and adults, and semi-permanent galleries for Inuit art and the museum's permanent collections. The museum has a permanent collection of 3,100 works, of which nearly 2,000 are Inuit art prints and sculptures. The museum is home to three temporary exhibition galleries that cover 8,000 square feet (740 m2) combined with an additional 12,000 square feet of semi-permanent exhibition space for the museum's permanent collection. As a cultural center, the Dennos Museum Center also provides exhibitions and programs in the sciences and performing arts. It includes the Milliken Auditorium, a 367-seat concert hall that hosts an annual concert series emphasizing world, jazz and blues music along with NMC and community events. The museum also oversees a collection of 14 outdoor sculptures by international and Michigan artists on the grounds of the college campus. In 2000, the museum was recognized by ArtServe Michigan with the Governor's Award for Arts and Culture.

Traverse City Central High School (known before 1997 as Traverse City Senior High School) is a public high school in Traverse City, Michigan. It is one of two comprehensive high schools in the Traverse City Area Public Schools district.
