Yangon General Hospital

Thayettaw (Burmese: သရက်တောကျောင်းတိုက်, also spelt Thayettaw Kyaungtaik) is a complex of over 60 Buddhist monasteries (kyaung) in Yangon, Myanmar (formerly Rangoon, Burma), located in Lanmadaw Township's 9th ward, immediately north of Yangon Chinatown. The monastery occupies a sprawling plot that is bounded by Bogyoke Aung San Road to the north, Anawrahta Road to the south, Phongyi Street to the west, and Myoma School Street to the west. The complex faces Yangon General Hospital and University of Medicine 1, Yangon, the former of which is the largest public hospital in the country. Owing to its proximity to these medical facilities, Thayettaw monasteries also provide de facto social safety net services (housing, meals, etc.) for impoverished patients seeking treatment in the city. The patients generally come from other parts of Lower Myanmar, namely Ayeyarwady Region, Bago Region, Mon State, and Kayin State.

Lanmadaw Township (Burmese: လမ်းမတော် မြို့နယ်; MLCTS=lam: ma. taw mrui. nai; pronounced [láɰ̃mədɔ̀ mjo̰nɛ̀]) is located in the western part of downtown Yangon, and shares borders with Ahlone Township in the west, Latha Township in the east, Seikkan Township and Yangon River in the south, and Dagon Township in the north. It consists of twelve wards and is home to five primary schools, two middle schools and two high schools. Lanmadaw and Latha townships make up the Yangon Chinatown. Lanmadaw Township is home to Yangon Institute of Nursing, one of the campuses of University of Medicine 1, Yangon, and Thayettaw, a monastic complex that houses over 60 urban Buddhist monasteries (kyaung).

Dagon Township (Burmese: ဒဂုံ မြို့နယ် [dəɡòʊɰ̃ mjo̰nɛ̀]) is located immediately north of downtown Yangon. The township comprises five wards, and shares borders with Bahan Township in the north, Ahlon Township in the west, Mingala Taungnyunt Township in the east, and Lanmadaw Township, Latha Township and Pabedan Township in the south.Dagon is home to some of the most prominent places of the city, including the great Shwedagon Pagoda, the Maha Wizaya Pagoda, the National Museum, the National Theatre and the Yangon Region Hluttaw (Parliament). This prosperous neighborhood has many hotels, embassies and diplomatic residences. The township's Dagon 1 High School and Dagon 2 High School are considered among the top public high schools in the country. On 6 February 2011, the Taw Win Centre, a major shopping and residential complex, was opened in the township. Construction on the 25-story complex began in 2004, but was stopped during the country's banking crisis, before resuming in March 2008. The country's first 3D movie theater opened at the Taw Win Centre on 1 March 2012. In June 2011, the Sitagu Sayadaw opened the Yangon campus of the Sitagu International Buddhist Academy in Dagon Township.

Latha Township (Burmese: လသာ မြို့နယ်, pronounced [la̰ðà mjo̰nɛ̀]) is located in the western part of downtown Yangon, and shares borders with Lanmadaw township in the west, Pabedan township in the east, Seikkan township and Yangon river in the south, and Dagon township in the north. It consists of ten wards and is home to three primary schools, one middle school and two high schools. Lanmadaw and Latha Townships make up the Yangon Chinatown.

The New Yangon General Hospital (Burmese: အထွေထွေရောဂါကု ဆေးရုံသစ်ကြီး (ရန်ကုန်)) is a public hospital in Yangon, Myanmar. It is also a teaching hospital of University of Medicine 1, Yangon, University of Nursing, Yangon and the University of Medical Technology, Yangon. The hospital was constructed and completed in 1984, using Japanese grant aid, provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The University of Nursing, Yangon (Burmese: သူနာပြု တက္ကသိုလ် (ရန်ကုန်) [θùnàpjṵ tɛʔkəθò (jàɰ̃ɡòʊɰ̃)]; formerly The Institute of Nursing, Yangon) is a nursing university, located in Lanmadaw Township, Yangon, Myanmar. It is one of three universities in the country that offers a four-year bachelor's degree program in nursing (i.e. B.N.Sc (Generic)). The UON - Yangon also offers a master's degree program in nursing and diploma programs in dental, EENT, mental health, pediatrics, critical care, and orthopedics. Moreover, there is a two-year B.N.Sc (Bridge) program for in-service nurses who have earned a nursing diploma. The university, which admits only 150 students per year for generic program, is one of the most selective universities in the nation. Nursing is one of few professions in Myanmar that provides decent job opportunities—inside or outside the country. The matriculation marks required for admission in 2013 was 440 out 600, slightly below what was required to go to medical school. For in-service nurses who want to enroll for the B.N.Sc (Bridge) program must have at least two-year service for the government and need to sit selection exam which is usually held in October/November of every year.

Guanyin Gumiao Temple (Chinese: 觀音古廟; pinyin: Guānyīn Gǔmiào; Jyutping: gun1 jam1 gu2 miu6*2, also known as the Guangdong Guanyin Temple) is one of two major Chinese temples located within Latha Township in Yangon's Chinatown. It was founded by the Cantonese community of Yangon in 1823, but was destroyed by a fire in December 1855, and subsequently rebuilt in 1864, with two additional brick buildings to the side built in 1872. The temple is located on Maha Bandula Road and is dedicated to Guanyin, a Buddhist bodhisattva corresponding to the Burmese Buddhist bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara (လောကနတ်, Lawka Nat).

Long Shan Tang Temple (Chinese: 龍山堂; pinyin: Lóngshān Táng; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Liông-san-tông) is a Hokkien Chinese clan temple (also called Kongsi) located on Anawrahta Road in Latha Township, part of Yangon's Chinatown. It was founded by members of the Tseng and Khoo clans from Fujian province in 1877. This temple is dedicated for ancestral worship.
