Baltimore Harbor Light

Gibson Island is an island and unincorporated community on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay. It is part of Anne Arundel County, Maryland, United States and is the eastern terminus of Maryland Route 177. It is connected by a causeway to Pasadena, Maryland. The two locations do not share a ZIP code.

Corcoran Woods, also known as Corcoran Environmental Study Area, or the Corcoran Tract, is a woodland preserve located in the northwest section of Sandy Point State Park in Annapolis, Maryland. The area comprises roughly 210 acres (0.85 km2) and is owned by the State of Maryland. Edward S. Corcoran previously owned the 110-acre (0.45 km2) northwest portion of Corcoran Woods.

The Little Magothy River runs 2.5 miles (4.0 km) through Anne Arundel County in the U.S. state of Maryland. It is located southeast of the Magothy River, just outside its mouth and north of the Severn River. A small, mostly tidal river, the Little Magothy's watershed (not including the water surface) covers an area of 2.2 square miles (5.7 km2). All mailing addresses in the watershed are in the Annapolis zip code, and the entire watershed is within Anne Arundel County, on the north side of the Broadneck Peninsula. It is bordered on the west by the community of Cape Saint Claire, and on the east by houses and farms along Bay Head Road. It runs just west of Sandy Point State Park. It starts near College Parkway and US 50/301, just north of the Whitehall Creek watershed (which is part of the Severn River watershed that drains to Whitehall Bay), and it flows north into the Chesapeake Bay south of Gibson Island. It has one named nontidal creek that drains into its upper end, Cat Branch, which flows under Cape Saint Claire Road. According to "My River Speaks," p. 141, Cat Branch was dammed in the mid-18th century to supply water through a canal to a mill in the upper Whitehall Creek watershed (part of the Severn River watershed). The 6.5 miles of Chesapeake shoreline including the Little Magothy River and stretching to Sandy Point, all well beyond the official mouth of the Magothy (which is 325 meters south of the southern tip of Gibson Island) are not in the Magothy drainage basin but are often included in county and state government studies of the Magothy watershed.

The Magothy River runs 12.1 miles (19.5 km) through Anne Arundel County in the U.S. state of Maryland. It is located south of the Patapsco River and north of the Severn River. There are two public park paddling access points, Beachwood Park on the north shore a half mile east of the Magothy Bridge Road bridge, and Spriggs Farm Park off Bayberry Drive, on the south shore two miles west of the Magothy's mouth. Both are Anne Arundel County parks.

Skidmore is an unincorporated community in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, United States. The community is the western terminus of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge as well as the location of Sandy Point State Park. Sandy Point Shoal Light was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.

Sandy Point State Park is a public recreation area on Chesapeake Bay, located at the western end of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. The state park is known for the popularity of its swimming beach, with annual attendance exceeding one million visitors. The park grounds include the Sandy Point Farmhouse, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The historic Sandy Point Shoal Lighthouse stands in about five feet of water some 1,000 yards (910 m) east of the park's beach.

The Sandy Point Farmhouse is a historic home at Sandy Point State Park, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, United States. It is a five-part plan consisting of a two-story central block connected to two wings by single-story hyphens. It was built in an 18th-century style in the 19th century and typical of Maryland domestic architecture. The house was constructed about 1815 for John Gibson, a member of the Annapolis elite and a relative of Samuel Ogle, an 18th-century Governor of Maryland.The Sandy Point Farmhouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.

Sandy Point Shoal Light is a brick three story lighthouse on a caisson foundation that was erected in 1883. It lies about 0.6 mi (0.97 km) off Sandy Point, north of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, from whose westbound span it is readily visible.The current light replaced a brick tower on the point itself, integral to the keeper's house, which was erected in 1857. By 1874 the Lighthouse Board complained that the extent of the shoal and the poor equipment of the lighthouse made a new light necessary; appropriations were not forthcoming, however, until 1882. The whole gamut of light sources has been run, from oil wicks to incandescent oil vapor (1913) to electricity (1929). The characteristic changed from flashing to fixed and back to flashing along with the change in light source. The present light is powered by a pair of solar panels attached to the roof on the south side.After automation in 1963, the light became subject to vandalism due to its visibility and its accessibility. The original lens was destroyed in 1979, apparently smashed with a baseball bat. Though the Coast Guard made efforts at maintaining and restoring the structure from 1988 to 1990, it continued to deteriorate. In 2006 it was sold at auction to a private bidder, after an unsuccessful attempt to find a non-profit group to take responsibility for the light. The Coast Guard continued to maintain the navigation aids until June 2019, when the light was discontinued due to deterioration of the privately owned supporting structure. The structure was added to the National Register of Historic Places as Sandy Point Shoal Light Station on December 2, 2002.

Cape St. Claire, a suburb of Annapolis, is a covenanted, unincorporated community as well as a census-designated place (CDP) in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, United States. While the community of Cape St. Claire lies entirely within the CDP and accounts for approximately 80% of the homes and residents, the CDP also includes the smaller communities of Atlantis, Walnut Ridge, Green Holly, and St. Claire Court. The population of the CDP was 8,747 at the 2010 census.Contained within Cape St. Claire are three marinas, multiple parks and beaches, a shopping center, Broadneck High School, Cape St. Claire Elementary School, The Harbour School, and Cape St. Claire Swim Club. Fire protection is provided by the Cape St. Claire Volunteer Fire Company. There are many churches located in the community including: Broadneck Baptist Church, Cape St. Claire United Methodist Church and Christ Our Anchor Presbyterian Church and Saint Andrew By the Bay Roman Catholic Church.

Broadneck High School is a school in the United States, located in Anne Arundel County, Maryland on Green Holly Drive, on the border between Arnold and Cape St. Claire, suburbs of Annapolis. The Bruin is the school's mascot. Broadneck is part of the Anne Arundel County Public Schools system and known for the breadth of its Advanced Placement program, among its higher-level courses such as Linear Algebra. It has been the test school for courses such as Calculus III and offers options to take classes at the nearby Anne Arundel Community College and CAT-South schools. The current BHS feeder middle schools are Severn River Middle School and Magothy River Middle School.

Whitehall is a colonial home that was built beginning in 1764 near Annapolis in Anne Arundel County in the Province of Maryland by Horatio Sharpe, then the provincial governor of the British colony of Maryland. The house is located about 7.5 miles (12.1 km) to the east of Annapolis on a peninsula between Whitehall Creek and Meredith Creek, opposite Sharpe's Point on a branch of Chesapeake Bay. The site, originally comprised about 1,000 acres (400 ha). The house is a five-part Georgian mansion of great length, only one room deep in the main section. It features elaborate original interior woodwork, attributed to William Buckland, and is one of only two pre-Revolutionary houses in the Thirteen Colonies to have a temple portico. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1960.

Downs Park is located in Pasadena, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, United States. The park consists of 236 acres (0.96 km2) and spans around 2,000 ft (610 m) of shoreline. It is operated by Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks and is open year-round. Organizations using the park include the Friends of Downs Park, Garden Volunteers, Volunteers-in-the-Park and the Downs Park Quilters Guild.
