Outwoods, Leicestershire

Beacon Hill, Hangingstone and Outwoods is a 147.5-hectare (364-acre) biological and geological Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) south of Loughborough in Leicestershire. It is also a Geological Conservation Review and a Nature Conservation Review site. The Outwoods and Beacon Hill are part of The National Forest. Two areas in the SSSI, Beacon Hill and Jubilee Woods are country parks managed by Leicestershire County Council, and The Outwoods is managed by Charnwood Borough Council.Beacon Hill has diverse breeding birds, such as green woodpeckers, tawny owls and tree pipits, and it is one of only three sites in the county with breeding palmate newts. The Outwoods and Hangingstone are of international importance for their fossils of early precambrian life forms.

Jubilee Wood comprises 10 hectares (25 acres) of mixed woodland with rocky outcrops. It was presented to Leicestershire County Council in 1977 to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of Elizabeth II.The site is adjoining The Outwoods, managed by Charnwood Borough Council.

Nanpantan is a suburb of Loughborough, in the Charnwood borough of Leicestershire, England. It is located in the south-west of the town of Loughborough, but the village is slightly separated from the main built-up area of Loughborough. It is also the site of the Nanpantan Reservoir. The first edge rails used in a wagonway were on the Charnwood Forest Canal, in the section between Nanpantan and Loughborough. Inside Nanpantan is a gastropub called The Priory. There is a small church here: Saint Mary in Charnwood, which was originally built as a mission room by the owner of Nanpantan Hall in 1888. After some years as a chapel of ease to the ecclesiastical parish of Emmanuel, Loughborough, Saint Mary in Charnwood became a parish in its own right, on 1 January 2015.Nanpantan became a civil parish in 1894, being formed from the rural part of Loughborough, on 1 April 1936 it was abolished and merged with Loughborough. In 1931 the parish had a population of 680.

Holywell Park Conference Centre is modern conference facility located on Loughborough University Campus offering 300 m2 of exhibition space and accommodating up to 450 people. It was officially opened in April 2004 by The Duke of Edinburgh.

The Engineering Subject Centre (EngSC) was one of 24 subject centres within the Higher Education Academy from 2000 to 2011. The academy encouraged, supported and enabled teaching excellence in the United Kingdom higher education community. This was achieved through development of research and evaluation both for the higher education (HE) community as a whole and through the discipline-specific expertise of the subject centres. The stated aim of the academy is: "to improve the learning experience for students". The Engineering Subject Centre was based in the Faculty of Engineering at Loughborough University. It drew upon the expertise of engineering academics and educationalists from across the higher education sector, and worked closely with the engineering professional bodies.
