East Cliff, Bournemouth

The East Cliff Railway, or East Cliff Lift, is a funicular railway located on the East Cliff of the English seaside resort of Bournemouth. The line serves to link the seaside promenade and beach with the cliff top and the town behind. Following a landslip in April 2016 which damaged the line and associated structures, the railway is out of use indefinitely.

Lansdowne is a suburb of Bournemouth. It occupies the north-east part of the main built-up area around Bournemouth Town Centre. It is home to Lansdowne Campus of Bournemouth University, which is where the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences are based. Lansdowne is also home to lots of Student Accommodation, hosting several thousand BU students.

The Downstairs Club was Bournemouth's first full-time rock, rhythm and blues and jazz venue. It opened in 1961 and under its later name of Le Disque a Go! Go! hosted performances from Manfred Mann, The Who, Eric Clapton, Andy Summers, Georgie Fame, Zoot Money and others. In 2014 a blue plaque commemorating the club was unveiled outside the former premises.

On 13 August 1993, the IRA planted 8 bombs around the British town of Bournemouth of which 5 were detonated in 2 separate attacks. In the first, 4 incendiary devices out of 6 were detonated in the town centre destroying a Maple & Co. furniture store and damaging 3 other shops. Later that day, a bomb went off on Bournemouth Pier which caused structural damage and a much larger explosive was defused by police. Only minor injuries were reported.The morning before the bombings occurred, a bomb warning was called in to the Brighton police. The caller claimed to be with the IRA and warned police of possible attacks on the town of Bournemouth, as well as the cities of Brighton and Torquay.

The Royal Bath Hotel is a building in Bournemouth, Dorset. It is owned by Britannia Hotels and is regarded to be the town's most famous hotel. Since 1974, the hotel has been a Grade II listed building. The hotel was formerly owned by the Mayor of Bournemouth, Merton Russell-Cotes.

Bournemouth railway station is the main railway station serving the seaside town of Bournemouth, Dorset, England. It was previously known as Bournemouth East (1885 to 1899) and then Bournemouth Central (1899 to 1967). It has long been treated as an obligatory stop (major stop) on the South West Main Line from London Waterloo to Weymouth. It is 108 miles 2 chains (173.8 km) down the main line from Waterloo and is situated between Pokesdown and Branksome. A previous incarnation of Bournemouth East station was on another site. Ticket barriers were installed in 2008 and British Transport Police have a Bournemouth office at the station which acts as a regional hub.
