As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 857 and an area of 13.4 square kilometres (5.2 sq mi).Vicolungo borders the following municipalities: Arborio, Biandrate, Casaleggio Novara, Landiona, Mandello Vitta, Recetto, and San Pietro Mosezzo.

It serves as the junction of the Biella–Novara. The station is currently managed by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI). However, the passenger building is private residence. Train services are operated by Trenitalia. Each of these companies is a subsidiary of Ferrovie dello Stato (FS), Italy's state-owned rail company.
