South Daytona is a city in Volusia County, Florida, United States. The population was 12,865 at the 2020 census.

The Dunlawton Plantation and Sugar Mill, a 19th-century cane sugar plantation in north-central Florida, was destroyed by the Seminoles at the beginning of the Second Seminole War. The ruins are located at 950 Old Sugar Mill Road, Port Orange, Florida. On August 28, 1973, the site was added to the United States National Register of Historic Places under the title of Dunlawton Plantation-Sugar Mill Ruins. The ruins are now part of the Dunlawton Sugar Mill Gardens. The botanical gardens include interpretive signs about the enclosed ruins, large concrete sculptures of dinosaurs and a giant ground sloth, a gazebo, and plantings of grasses, flowers, bushes and native plants under a canopy of oak trees.

Freemanville is a section of Port Orange, Florida that was settled by freed blacks after the U.S. Civil War. John Milton Hawks brought freed blacks to the area to work at his sawmill, but a variety of issues caused it to fail and the colony struggled. Some colonists remained in the area and settled the area that later became known as Freemanville. The Mount Moriah Baptist Church (constructed in 1911) is believed to be the area's last remaining remnant building. A commemorative plaque and an annual Freemanville commemoration celebrate the area's heritage. Esther Hill Hawks established what may have been Florida's first integrated school to serve the area.

Mount Moriah Baptist Church was built in Port Orange, Florida in 1911. Built to serve black residents, it was located in an area that came to be known as Freemanville and is believed to be the last remaining building from the settlement. Freed blacks settled the area to work at a lumber company started by John Milton Hawks, but sandy soil, corruption, and planning issues led to a rapid decline as the colony struggled. A plaque commemorate the area's history. It is part of the Black Heritage Trail. It has been suggested that Esther Hawks established Florida's first integrated school in the area. An annual Freeman Day Ceremony commemorates the heritage. The church was renovated in 1956.

Warner Christian Academy (WCA) is a private Christian school located at 1730 South Ridgewood Ave. in South Daytona, Florida and was founded in September 1972. It is a ministry of White Chapel Church of God.

Port Orange Florida East Coast Railway Freight Depot is a historic Florida East Coast Railway passenger depot in Port Orange, Florida, United States. It is located at 415C Herbert Street, off U.S. 1. The depot was originally constructed in 1894 as two buildings. The depot was constructed by the narrow-gauge St. Johns and Halifax Railway, a division of the Jacksonville, St. Augustine and Indian River Railway.On December 31, 1885, Henry Flagler purchased the Jacksonville, St. Augustine and Indian River Railway. In September 1895, he changed the name to the Florida East Coast Railway.The initial buildings included a passenger depot, FEC building #245, which was built immediately south of Dunlawton Avenue with the platform facing north. A second building, a freight depot, FEC building #246, was constructed south of the passenger depot. In 1924, the two buildings were joined as a passenger station. Regular passenger service ended in 1932. In February 1938, the building was remodeled to its current appearance. The windows, pedestrian doors and waiting platform were removed.The building continued to be used as a freight depot until 1964. The depot continued to be a flag stop until the strike on January 23, 1963, and is listed in the last pre-strike time table dated December 12, 1962. In 1966 the depot was purchased and moved 500 feet north. The depot was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on February 5, 1998. In 2015 the City of Port Orange purchased the depot from long time Port Orange resident and business owner Bryan Berntsen to restore the building.

The Daytona Beach Golf Course is a municipal golf course, located at 600 Wilder Blvd. in Daytona Beach, Florida, United States. The facility is owned and operated by the City of Daytona Beach, and offers two courses, the North Course and the South Course.

The Dunlawton Avenue Historic District is a U.S. historic district (designated as such on February 5, 1998) located in Port Orange, Florida. The district runs roughly along Dunlawton Avenue to Lafayette Avenue, and Orange Avenue and Wellman Street. It contains 17 historic buildings.

Grace Episcopal Church and Guild Hall is a historic site in Port Orange, Florida, United States. It is located at 4100 Ridgewood Avenue. On February 5, 1998, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.

WROD (1340 AM) is a commercial radio station in Daytona Beach, Florida, and broadcasting a conservative talk radio format. As of June 24, 2015, WROD is owned by Duvall Media Group LLC. WROD is a Class C radio station transmitting with 1,000 watts, using a non-directional antenna. Programming is also heard on 120-watt FM translator 95.1 W236DY in Daytona Beach. It uses the FM frequency in its moniker, "95.1 WROD Daytona's Talk Radio".

The Halifax Drive Historic District was a U.S. historic district (designated as such on February 5, 1998) located in Port Orange, Florida. The district ran roughly along Halifax Drive from Dunlawton to Herbert Street. It contained 17 historic buildings. On January 29, 2009, it was removed from the National Register.

The museum is a member of the American Alliance of Museums and an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution. It is home to over 30,000 objects, making it one of the largest museums in central Florida.
