Berwyn Health Center

Berwyn is a suburban city in Cook County, Illinois, coterminous with Berwyn Township, which was formed in 1908 after breaking off from Cicero Township. As of the 2020 census, the city had a total population of 57,250.

The Berwyn Municipal Building, also known as Berwyn City Hall, is a historic public building located at 6700 26th Street in Berwyn, Illinois. The building was constructed in 1939 as a Public Works Administration project. The architecture firm of Burnham & Hammond designed the building in the PWA's characteristic PWA Moderne style; their design features square massing, a flat brick and limestone exterior, prism-shaped pilasters, and reeding above the entrance. While the pilasters are in keeping with Moderne design, their prism shape is unusual; they may have been influenced by Burnham's earlier work or by Czech Cubism, given Berwyn's substantial Czech-American population at the time.The building originally housed Berwyn's city offices, its library, and its police and fire departments. The police department left in the 1960s, and the library closed its branch in the building in the 1980s; the city government and fire department still used the building as of 2001. An addition was placed on the building in 1991 to give it an elevator in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 8, 2001.

Berwyn Township is one of 29 townships in Cook County, Illinois, USA. As of the 2010 census, its population was 56,657. It is coterminous with the city of Berwyn.Berwyn Township, with a population of 56,657 (2010 census) and over 22,000 households includes the area bounded on the north by Roosevelt Road, on the south by Pershing Road (39th Street), on the east by Lombard Avenue (west side of the street only), and on the west by Harlem Avenue (east side of the street only). Berwyn Township was established by the Illinois Legislature in 1922 as one of the few coterminous townships in the state. The Berwyn Public Health District was established at the same time. The Township and the Berwyn Public Health District are two separate and distinct governmental bodies with separate governing Boards. The Township and Public Health District moved to their present headquarters at 6600 W. 26th Street in 1939. Built for $50,000, construction of the building was made possible by federal grants under the Works Progress Administration (WPA).

The Central Berwyn Bungalow Historic District is a residential historic district in Berwyn, Illinois. The district includes 1,358 contributing buildings, 1,109 of which are brick Chicago bungalows and another 156 of which are bungalows in other styles. The homes were built between 1900 and 1949, with the majority of them being built in the mid-1920s. Tens of thousands of bungalows were built in the Chicago area in the early twentieth century, as their affordability made them popular with the working class. Many of Berwyn's bungalows were purchased by Czech Americans, who moved to Berwyn in great numbers in the 1920s and accounted for 25% of the city's population by 1930. While bungalows typically had uniform designs, they were distinguished by their entrances, porches, and roofs, and nearly every possible variation on those features can be found in the district.The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 18, 2015.

The American State Bank, also known as the First American National Bank and the Berwyn National Bank, is a historic bank building in Berwyn, Illinois, United States. It was an important part of the economic development of Berwyn and is associated with its Central European heritage. It was built in 1925 and was placed in receivership in 1932.

LaVergne is one of three stations on Metra's BNSF Line located in Berwyn, Illinois. The station is 9.0 miles (14.5 km) away from Union Station, the eastern terminus of the line. In Metra's zone-based fare system, LaVergne is in zone B. As of 2018, LaVergne is the 167th busiest of Metra's 236 non-downtown stations, with an average of 174 weekday boardings. It is just west of the large BNSF Cicero Yard and the Canadian National's (former Illinois Central Railroad) Freeport Subdivision.

Oak Park was a rapid transit station on the Chicago "L", where it was the westernmost extension of the Douglas Park branch in the suburb of Berwyn, from 1924 to 1952. Although the branch had originally been constructed starting from 1896 by the Metropolitan West Side Elevated Railroad Company, it did not reach Oak Park until March 16, 1924, by which time the Metropolitan had been subsumed by the Chicago Rapid Transit Company (CRT). Plans to extend the branch as far west as Harlem Avenue were made by the Metropolitan but were never done as development never justified it. The terminal building itself was a simple clapboard frame structure with a peaked roof on an island platform, with the tracks on either side ending abruptly.The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) assumed operations of the "L" in 1947, and sought to streamline. In mid-1951, it proposed trimming the Douglas branch and instituting skip-stop on December 9 in concert with other reforms such as the discontinuation of the Westchester branch. Berwyn and adjacent Cicero sued the CTA and got an injunction to stop the branch reduction, but the matter was resolved in the CTA's favor and the branch was cut back to 54th/Cermak on February 3, 1952.

The Berwyn Apartments is an apartment building at 3137 Oak Park Avenue, Berwyn, Illinois. Originally the Berwyn Hotel, the building was built in 1922, at a cost of $200,000 ($3,237,773 in today's dollars). 210 guests attended a dinner-dance marking its opening in 1923. The local Kiwanis and Lions clubs held events in the hotel, as did political parties and candidates. The hotel also contained an elegant tea room and had a cigar stand in the lobby. The Berwyn Conservatory of Music held concerts in the lobby. An addition was built in 1929, at a cost of $25,000.Originally owned by Frank Euwecke, in 1943 it was purchased by Chicago attorney Maxwell Landis. After Landis's death, ownership passed to his widow and later to his son, Floyd Landis. In 1972, it was sold to the Berwyn Hotel Corp. In 1977, it was purchased by James and Noreen Bushouse. The Bushouses renovated the building, creating 46 guest rooms, ten residential suites, and space for three commercial tenants on the first floor. The building was renovated in 2018, creating 28 one and two bedroom apartment units, and a fourth floor addition was built.

The Berwyn State Bank Building is an Art Deco office building at 6804 Windsor Avenue, Berwyn, Illinois. It was designed by Charles O. Liska and was built at a cost of $400,000 in 1929. It is a Berwyn Historic Landmark.

Berwyn is one of three stations on Metra's BNSF Line in Berwyn, Illinois. The station is 9.6 miles (15.4 km) from Union Station, the east end of the line. In Metra's zone-based fare system, Berwyn is in zone B. As of 2018, Berwyn is the 79th busiest of Metra's 236 non-downtown stations, with an average of 669 weekday boardings. There is a staffed station building on the south side of the tracks. Originally known as Burlington Suburban Station and built in 1890 for the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad line. It was formally determined to be eligible to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982, but, apparently because of the objections of the CB&Q, it was not listed.

Spindle was a sculpture created in 1989 by artist Dustin Shuler (1948–2010). It consisted of a 50-foot spike with eight cars impaled on it in a manner reminiscent of documents on a desk spindle.

The Arthur J. Dunham House is a house located at 3131 S. Wisconsin Ave. in Berwyn, Illinois, USA. The Prairie School house, built circa 1907, was designed by the Chicago architectural firm Tallmadge and Watson. The house's features exemplify the design elements of the Prairie School, with an emphasis on horizontal lines and open planes; these elements can be seen in the house's lateral porch, low hipped roof and open floor plan. The house is the only house in Berwyn with such a design, and since the same family has owned it since its construction, its design is basically intact.The Arthur J. Dunham House was added to the National Register of Historic Places on February 11, 1982.
