Santa Tereza station

Santa Efigênia is a Belo Horizonte Metro station on Line 1. It was opened in April 1992 as a one-station extension of the line from Central. In December 1992 the line was extended to Horto. The station is located between Central and Santa Tereza.

Estádio Raimundo Sampaio, more commonly known as Independência (Portuguese: Independence), is a football stadium located in the Horto neighborhood of Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil. It was built in 1950 for the FIFA World Cup, held in Brazil. Initially its capacity was 30,000 people, but after the reconstruction between 2010 and 2012, the capacity is approximately 23,000 people. It belonged to the defunct Sete de Setembro Futebol Clube, which is why the stadium is called Independence (the name of the team, September 7, is Brazil's Independence Day). The stadium is currently property of América Futebol Clube, but has been leased to the Minas Gerais state government for 20 years, as a counterpart to the injection of public resources to demolish the old stadium and build the new one. Estádio Independência is the second most important stadium in Belo Horizonte, behind only Mineirão. Its formal name honors Raimundo Sampaio, a former chairman of Sete de Setembro. América plays their home games in there.

Horto is a Belo Horizonte Metro station on Line 1. It was opened in December 1992 as a one-station extension of the line from Santa Efigênia; later, Santa Tereza was added in the middle of this extension. In December 1994, the line was extended to Santa Inês. The station is located between Santa Tereza and Santa Inês.

Professor Paulo Neves de Carvalho Government School (Escola de Governo Paulo Neves de Carvalho) is a Brazilian state funded single institution of higher education, based in the city of Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. The school offers undergraduate, masters, specialization and extension programs in the area of Public Administration. The School of Government is part of the João Pinheiro Foundation, and is linked to the government of Minas Gerais through the Secretary of State for Planning and Management (SEPLAG). The School of Government of the João Pinheiro Foundation was established in 1992 with the mission to promote the modernization and professionalization of the government and to improve the training of technical staff at the local, state and federal levels, promoting new management techniques and developing studies and research in public administration.

The Faculty of Medical Sciences of Minas Gerais (Portuguese: Faculdade Ciências Médicas de Minas Gerais, FCMMG) is a private university in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Founded in 1950 by Brazilian doctor Lucas Monteiro Machado, it became the second medical school established in the state, following the UFMG School of Medicine.

Belo Horizonte (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈbɛlu oɾiˈzõtʃi], locally [ˌbɛloɾiˈzõtʃi] (listen); lit. 'Beautiful Horizon') is the sixth-largest city in Brazil, with a population around 2.7 million and with a metropolitan area of 6 million people. It is the 13th-largest city in South America and the 18th-largest in the Americas. The metropolis is anchor to the Belo Horizonte metropolitan area, ranked as the third-most populous metropolitan area in Brazil and the 17th-most populous in the Americas. Belo Horizonte is the capital of the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil's second-most populous state. It is the first planned modern city in Brazil. The region was first settled in the early 18th century, but the city as it is known today was planned and constructed in the 1890s, to replace Ouro Preto as the capital of Minas Gerais. The city features a mixture of contemporary and classical buildings, and is home to several modern Brazilian architectural icons, most notably the Pampulha Complex. In planning the city, Aarão Reis and Francisco Bicalho sought inspiration in the urban planning of Washington, D.C. The city has employed notable programs in urban revitalization and food security, for which it has been awarded international accolades. The city is built on several hills, and is completely surrounded by mountains. There are several large parks in the immediate surroundings of Belo Horizonte. The Mangabeiras Park (Parque das Mangabeiras), 6 km (4 mi) southeast of the city centre in the hills of Curral Ridge (Serra do Curral), has a broad view of the city. It has an area of 2.35 km2 (580 acres), of which 0.9 km2 (220 acres) is covered by the native forest. The Jambeiro Woods (Mata do Jambeiro) nature reserve extends over 912 hectares (2,250 acres), with vegetation typical of the Atlantic Forest. More than 100 species of birds inhabit the reserve, as well as 10 species of mammals. Belo Horizonte was one of the host cities of the 1950 and the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Additionally, the city shared as host of the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup and the football tournament during the 2016 Summer Olympics.

The Baleia State Park (Portuguese: Parque Estadual da Baleia) is a state park in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. It protects a rugged area in the cerrado biome near the state capital of Belo Horizonte. As of 2014 nothing had been done to implement the park, which existed only on paper.

Praça Rui Barbosa (also called Praça da Estação--Station Square in English) is a square in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. It has this name due to its proximity to the Estação Central de Belo Horizonte (Central Station of Belo Horizonte). The square has the first public clock in the city.

Santa Inês is a Belo Horizonte Metro station on Line 1. It was opened in December 1994 as a one-station extension of the line from Horto. In April 1997 the line was extended to Minas Shopping. The station is located between Horto and José Cândido da Silveira.

Arrudas is a stream that begins its course in Contagem and goes down through Belo Horizonte in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. It is one of the source of Das Velhas River Rio das Velhas in Sabará. Ribeirão Arrudas is formed by many streams: Jatobá, Barreiro, Bonsucesso, Cercadinho, Piteiras, Leitão, Acaba Mundo, Serra, Taquaril, Navio-baleia, Santa Terezinha, Ferrugem, Tijuco, Pastinho, among others, which are the tributaries of Arrudas. Together, Arrudas and its affluents form the Arrudas River Basin Bacia do Ribeirão Arrudas. Although most of the sources that make this important tributary of the Rio das Velhas are still clean, almost all sewage from Contagem and from Belo Horizonte is being dumped into Arrudas, which also jeopardizes Rio das Velhas Basin and Rio São Francisco Basin. The rapid and disorderly Urbanization of Contagem Belo Horizonte and later the construction of avenues to alleviate traffic in Belo Horizonte had removed the green on the banks of Arrudas, contributing to the increase in temperature in the city. In addition, the concrete riverbed added to the increasing soil sealing of the city have caused increasingly destructive floods along the basins of the Arruda and Rio das Velhas, in recent years. The recent construction of boulevards, as government attempts to solve the traffic problem in Belo Horizonte covered part of the stream, altering significantly the landscape of the city.
