52nd Street station (Market–Frankford Line)

The Nixon Theatre was a theatre in Philadelphia. It was built in 1910 and closed around 1984. It held 1,870 seats. The architectural design of the Nixon Theatre was made by John D. Allen. It was located on 34 S 52nd Street, Philadelphia, PA. The theater was brick and stone with a two-story arched entrance and a bow window at the top. Now, the site is Payless ShoeSource and Rainbow Kids. Jimmy Bishop, a popular old local Philly radio DJ helped run Arctic Records and organize various performances in this theatre.

Dunlap is a small neighborhood in the West Philadelphia section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The neighborhood lies between Haverford Avenue and Market Street and stretches from 46th to 52nd streets. Dunlap is squeezed in between the neighborhoods of Mill Creek and Haddington and situated just north of Walnut Hill. The neighborhood is named after the former historic Thomas Dunlap School that was restored into senior homes in 1991. Dunlap is located in the 19139 ZIP Code, and is located is situated in the Philadelphia Police Department's 19th police district which encompasses a large portion of West Philadelphia. According to some sources, the neighborhood is generally known for low income housing with household incomes generally below the poverty level. The area has many dilapidated or abandoned houses. The area is served by SEPTA's 52nd Street station.

The La Blanche Apartments is a historic building in West Philadelphia built in 1910 in the Georgian Revival style. It was part of the second wave of a housing boom in West Philadelphia that started with the completion of the Market Street Elevated line in 1907. The building is also one of the first large apartment buildings built in Philadelphia, and helped give the rising middle class better access to housing. Originally the four story building housed just 26 apartments, but as the neighborhood became less fashionable, the apartments were subdivided into a total of 49 units.

The Paul Robeson House was the home of internationally renowned American bass-baritone concert singer, actor of film and stage, All-American and professional athlete, writer, multi-lingual orator, human rights activist, and lawyer Paul Robeson from 1966 until 1976. Located in West Philadelphia, the Robeson House produces, presents and promotes traveling lectures, concerts and exhibits so that learning about Robeson is accessible to all ages and cultures.

Thomas Dunlap School is a historic former school building located in the Haddington neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was built in 1906, and is a three-story, nine bay by two bay, ashlar stone building in the Colonial Revival-style. It features a projecting, center cross gable bay, paired pilasters flanking the main entrance, and a modillioned copper cornice.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. It is currently in use as apartments.

The Mikveh Israel Cemetery Beth-El-Emeth at 55th and Market Streets is a Jewish cemetery in West Philadelphia founded in 1850 and dedicated in 1857 by Isaac Leeser’s Congregation Beth-El-Emeth as Beth-El-Emeth Cemetery (Hebrew: בית אל אמת). Kahal Kadosh Beth-El-Emeth “Holy Congregation of the True God” (or “God of Truth”) was founded in 1857 by Joseph Newhouse as a pulpit for Rev. Isaac Leeser after Leeser left Congregation Mikveh Israel. The congregation followed the "Spanish & Portuguese" rite despite most members hailing from Germany. They met in a former church on the east side of Franklin Street above Green Street in the Northern Liberties neighborhood. Many of its members had formerly belonged to Mikveh Israel and rejoined it when Beth-El-Emeth dissolved itself in 1897. Congregation Mikveh Israel took possession of the Beth El Emeth Cemetery in 1895.The cemetery is also referred to as Congregation Mikveh Israel's third cemetery. In May 1954, vandals who had been drinking in the cemetery, overturned 33 headstones, leaving behind beer and wine bottles.The City of Philadelphia erected a historic marker near the cemetery's location in 1998 to recognize Reverend Leeser and his contributions as a teacher and scholar.

West Philadelphia Catholic High School for Boys (West Boys, West Catholic, Burrs) was founded in 1916. A school building was later constructed at 49th Street between Chestnut and Market Streets in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The school closed its doors in 1989 when the co-educational West Philadelphia Catholic High School opened in the former West Philadelphia Catholic Girls High School building at 45th and Chestnut Street.

Holmes Junior High School is a historic junior high school building located in the West Philadelphia neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was designed by Henry deCourcy Richards and built in 1916–1917. It is a three-story, six bay, brick building on a raised basement in the Classical Revival-style. An addition was made to the "U"-shaped building shortly after it was completed in 1917. It features a slightly projecting center section, stone cornice, and brick parapet.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.

Malcolm X Park (formerly named Black Oak Park) is an urban park in West Philadelphia named in honor of Malcolm X. It is a six-acre park located around 51st Street and Pine Street. The park is known for its jazz festival during the summer.

Walnut Hill is a neighborhood in the West Philadelphia section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is located between 45th Street and 52nd Street, bounded by Market Street and Spruce Street. Most of the neighborhood is in the northwestern part of the University City District. It is located north of the neighborhoods of Garden Court and Spruce Hill. It is a racially mixed neighborhood with a large seasonal student population. Walnut Hill was largely built from the start of the 20th century through the 1940s, with a large growth spurt immediately following the construction of what is now the SEPTA Market-Frankford Line. The primarily residential neighborhood consists of 2 and 3-story rowhomes, with several pre-war garden style apartments. West Philadelphia High School is located in Walnut Hill and The Restaurant School at Walnut Hill College is close by, if not technically within the boundaries of the neighborhood. In recent years, the Enterprise Center Community Development Corporation, in collaboration with the Walnut Hill Community Association, has made strides to spur development in the neighborhood. Lea School of Practice are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.American Bandstand was first broadcast from the ABC studio at 46th and Market Streets (now the Enterprise Center).Science fiction author Isaac Asimov lived at Wyngate Hall (now called The Terrace), a garden apartment building at 50th and Spruce, from 1942–1945, and wrote several of the stories that comprise I, Robot and the Foundation series while living there.Singer, actor and activist Paul Robeson lived with his sister at 50th and Walnut from 1968 until his death in 1976. A mural at 45th and Chestnut commemorates Robeson.From the 1930s through the 1970s the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) was located at 48th and Spruce, their former building now houses the Emmanual Church, a Korean language Presbyterian congregation.

The Institute of Pennsylvania Hospital, also known as Kirkbride's Hospital or the Pennsylvania Hospital for Mental and Nervous Diseases, was a psychiatric hospital located at 48th and Haverford Streets in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. It operated from its founding in 1841 until 1997. The remaining building, now called the Kirkbride Center is now part of the Blackwell Human Services Campus. Two large hospital structures and an elaborate pleasure ground were built on a campus that stretched along the north side of Market Street, from 45th to 49th Streets. Thomas Story Kirkbride, the hospital's first superintendent and physician-in-chief, developed a more humane method of treatment for the mentally ill there, that became widely influential. The hospital's plan became a prototype for a generation of institutions for the treatment of the mentally ill nationwide. The surviving 1859 building was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1965.
