West Philadelphia High School is a secondary school located in the West Philadelphia section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the intersection of 49th Street and Chestnut Street.

West Philadelphia Catholic High School for Boys (West Boys, West Catholic, Burrs) was founded in 1916. A school building was later constructed at 49th Street between Chestnut and Market Streets in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The school closed its doors in 1989 when the co-educational West Philadelphia Catholic High School opened in the former West Philadelphia Catholic Girls High School building at 45th and Chestnut Street.

Henry C. Lea Elementary School is a historic elementary school located in the Walnut Hill neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is part of the School District of Philadelphia. The building was designed by Henry deCourcy Richards and built by Cramp & Co. in 1914. It is a three-story, five bay, reinforced concrete building faced with brick and with terra cotta and granite trim in the Late Gothic Revival-style. It sits on a raised basement. It features a Classical limestone center entrance surround, a central two-story bay window, decorative panels, crenelated parapet, and a projecting entrance bay. It was used as an "observation school" for teacher education and training.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988 as the Henry C. Lea School of Practice.

The Paul Robeson House was the home of internationally renowned American bass-baritone concert singer, actor of film and stage, All-American and professional athlete, writer, multi-lingual orator, human rights activist, and lawyer Paul Robeson from 1966 until 1976. Located in West Philadelphia, the Robeson House produces, presents and promotes traveling lectures, concerts and exhibits so that learning about Robeson is accessible to all ages and cultures.

Breslyn Apartments is a historic apartment complex located in the Spruce Hill neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was built in 1913, and consists of five three-story, brick and granite buildings with terra cotta and galvanized-iron trim in the Beaux Arts-style. Each building measures 38 feet wide and 98 feet deep. The buildings features large open porch-balconies with Ionic order columns, segmental-arch windows, bow and bay windows, and terra cotta piers with Corinthian order caps.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

Garden Court is a neighborhood in the West Philadelphia section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is located west of Spruce Hill, north of Cedar Park, east of Cobbs Creek, and south of Walnut Hill. In the 1920s, The Philadelphia Inquirer called Garden Court "the most exclusive location in West Philadelphia." Garden Court was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 5, 1984. The neighborhood contains a diverse mix of housing types, including the 116-unit Garden Court Condominiums. It is a racially mixed neighborhood. Income and property values are greater than those of West Philadelphia as a whole.The neighborhood is mostly residential, but contains small rows of shops around the intersections of 48th and Spruce, and 47th and Pine. The La Blanche Apartments is a historic building in West Philadelphia built in 1910 in the Georgian Revival style. It was part of the second wave of a housing boom in West Philadelphia that started with the completion of the Market Street Elevated line in 1907. The building is also one of the first large apartment buildings built in Philadelphia, and helped give the rising middle class better access to housing. Originally the four story building housed just 26 apartments, but as the neighborhood became less fashionable, the apartments were subdivided into a total of 49 units.

Dunlap is a small neighborhood in the West Philadelphia section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The neighborhood lies between Haverford Avenue and Market Street and stretches from 46th to 52nd streets. Dunlap is squeezed in between the neighborhoods of Mill Creek and Haddington and situated just north of Walnut Hill. The neighborhood is named after the former historic Thomas Dunlap School that was restored into senior homes in 1991. Dunlap is located in the 19139 ZIP Code, and is located is situated in the Philadelphia Police Department's 19th police district which encompasses a large portion of West Philadelphia. According to some sources, the neighborhood is generally known for low income housing with household incomes generally below the poverty level. The area has many dilapidated or abandoned houses. The area is served by SEPTA's 52nd Street station.

The Institute of Pennsylvania Hospital, also known as Kirkbride's Hospital or the Pennsylvania Hospital for Mental and Nervous Diseases, was a psychiatric hospital located at 48th and Haverford Streets in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. It operated from its founding in 1841 until 1997. The remaining building, now called the Kirkbride Center is now part of the Blackwell Human Services Campus. Two large hospital structures and an elaborate pleasure ground were built on a campus that stretched along the north side of Market Street, from 45th to 49th Streets. Thomas Story Kirkbride, the hospital's first superintendent and physician-in-chief, developed a more humane method of treatment for the mentally ill there, that became widely influential. The hospital's plan became a prototype for a generation of institutions for the treatment of the mentally ill nationwide. The surviving 1859 building was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1965.

The Nixon Theatre was a theatre in Philadelphia. It was built in 1910 and closed around 1984. It held 1,870 seats. The architectural design of the Nixon Theatre was made by John D. Allen. It was located on 34 S 52nd Street, Philadelphia, PA. The theater was brick and stone with a two-story arched entrance and a bow window at the top. Now, the site is Payless ShoeSource and Rainbow Kids. Jimmy Bishop, a popular old local Philly radio DJ helped run Arctic Records and organize various performances in this theatre.
