Mount Roosevelt (Vermont)

The Breadloaf Wilderness is one of eight wilderness areas in the Green Mountain National Forest in the U.S. state of Vermont. It was created by the Vermont Wilderness Act of 1984 and later expanded by the New England Wilderness Act of 2006. With a total of 24,986 acres (10,111 ha), it is the largest wilderness area in Vermont. The area is managed by the U.S. Forest Service. Roughly half of the Breadloaf Wilderness, from its southern boundary at Middlebury Gap to Mount Roosevelt in its interior, was bequeathed to Middlebury College by Joseph Battell (1839–1915), a philanthropist and environmentalist from Middlebury, Vermont, in 1915. The college sold nearly all of Battell's lands to the Forest Service in the 1930s and 1950s. It was the sale of these lands that prompted the Federal government to create the northern unit of the Green Mountain National Forest. The Long Trail traverses 17.3 miles (27.8 km) through the heart of the Breadloaf Wilderness, from Middlebury Gap to Lincoln Gap at its northern edge. This section of the Long Trail crosses at least ten peaks above 3,000 feet (910 m), the highest of which is Bread Loaf Mountain at 3,835 feet (1,169 m). Additional access to the wilderness is provided by numerous side trails including (from south to north) the Burnt Hill Trail, the Skylight Pond Trail, the Emily Proctor Trail, the Clark Brook Trail, and the Cooley Glen Trail. Numerous wildlife species thrive in the wilderness. Moose and black bear are said to be present in considerable numbers. Hikers have observed more than 100 forms of life, including at least 70 species of plants and 25 species of animals.

Mount Cleveland is a mountain in the Green Mountains in the U.S. state of Vermont. Located in the Breadloaf Wilderness of the Green Mountain National Forest, its summit is in the town of Lincoln in Addison County. The mountain is named after Grover Cleveland, former president of the United States. Mount Cleveland is one of five peaks in Vermont's Presidential Range.

Mount Grant is a mountain in the Green Mountains in the U.S. state of Vermont. Located in the Breadloaf Wilderness of the Green Mountain National Forest, its summit is in the town of Lincoln in Addison County. The mountain is named after Ulysses S. Grant, former president of the United States. Mount Grant is one of five peaks in Vermont's Presidential Range.

South Lincoln is a census-designated place (CDP) within the town of Lincoln, Addison County, Vermont, United States. As of the 2020 census, South Lincoln had a population of 251. It was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 census. It is in eastern Addison County, in the south part of the town of Lincoln, in the valley of the New Haven River, a north-flowing tributary of Otter Creek and part of the Lake Champlain watershed. It is bordered to the south and east by the Green Mountain National Forest. South Lincoln Road leads north (downriver) 3 miles (5 km) to Lincoln, and Ripton Road leads southwest 9 miles (14 km) to Ripton.

Lincoln Gap is a mountain pass in the Green Mountains of the U.S. state of Vermont. The highest point of the gap is located in the town of Lincoln in Addison County approximately 0.5 miles (0.8 km) west of the boundary between Lincoln and the town of Warren in Washington County. At 2,424 feet (739 m), Lincoln Gap is the highest vehicle-accessible mountain pass in Vermont. Lincoln Gap Road, which traverses the gap, is not plowed in the winter. On the east side, Lincoln Gap is drained by Lincoln Brook, which drains into the Mad River, the Winooski River, and into Lake Champlain. To the west, the gap is drained by Cota Brook, which drains into the New Haven River, Otter Creek, and into Lake Champlain. In turn, Lake Champlain drains into the Richelieu River in Québec, thence into the Saint Lawrence River, and into the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. The Long Trail, a 272-mile (438-km) hiking trail running the length of Vermont, crosses Lincoln Gap between Mount Grant 3.9 miles (6.3 km) to the south and Mount Abraham 2.6 miles (4.2 km) to the north. The Breadloaf Wilderness lies directly south of the gap.

Granville Notch, or Granville Gulf, is a notch, or mountain pass, located in Granville, Vermont. North of the height of land, the notch is the source of the Mad River, which drains into the Winooski River, and into Lake Champlain. Lake Champlain drains into the Richelieu River in Quebec, thence into the Saint Lawrence River, and into the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. To the south, the notch is drained by Alder Meadow Brook, a tributary of the White River, which drains into the Connecticut River, and into Long Island Sound in Connecticut. The land within the notch is in Granville Gulf Reservation (1,171 acres), which extends about 7 mi (11 km) along the streams, from the border of Addison County with Washington County south to about a mile north of the town of Granville. It includes the Moss Glen Falls, where Deer Hollow Brook enters Alden Meadow Brook.

The Mad River is a tributary to the Winooski River in Vermont. It has its headwaters in Granville Gulf, then flows north through the towns of Warren, Waitsfield, and Moretown before entering the Winooski River just downstream from Middlesex. Other towns within the Mad River watershed are the entire Town of Fayston and a portion of the Town of Duxbury. Relative to other rivers in the state, the Mad River is fairly rocky and clear, making it a popular for swimming. In the summer of 2008, didymo, or Rock Snot, was found in the upper portions of the river.The Mad River Valley is a popular region with tourists due to its picturesque scenery and two ski areas, Mad River Glen and Sugarbush Resort. Since 1990, the Friends of the Mad River – a non-profit formed to preserve and protect the recreational, ecological and aesthetic resources of the Mad River – has been engaged in citizen-based water quality monitoring, river restoration, land conservation, and public education and outreach on behalf of the Mad River watershed.

Mount Abraham (known as Mount Abe to locals) is a mountain in the Green Mountains in the U.S. state of Vermont. Located in the Green Mountain National Forest, its summit is in the town of Lincoln in Addison County, but its eastern slopes extend into the town of Warren in Washington County. The mountain is named after Abraham Lincoln, former president of the United States. It is one of five peaks in Vermont's Presidential Range. At 4,006 feet (1,221.0 m), Mount Abraham is the highest point in Addison County, the fifth highest peak in Vermont, and one of the hundred highest peaks in New England. Its summit supports a small amount of alpine tundra vegetation.

Warren is a town in Washington County, Vermont, United States. The population was 1,977 at the 2020 census. The center of population of Vermont is located in Warren. It is set between the two ranges of the Green Mountains, with approximately 25% of the township within the boundaries of the federal Green Mountain National Forest. Sugarbush Resort is a. local ski resort in the town. The Long Trail, a hiking trail running from the border with Massachusetts to the Canada–US border, traverses the town.

Lincoln Peak is a mountain located on the border between Addison and Washington counties in the U.S. state of Vermont. It is part of the Lincoln Mountain section of the Green Mountains in the Green Mountain National Forest. Lincoln Peak is flanked to the southwest by Mount Abraham, and to the north by Nancy Hanks Peak, which was named after Abraham Lincoln's assassination. Lincoln Peak is named after Major General Benjamin Lincoln, who was instrumental in the American Revolutionary War victory at Saratoga. The summit is in the town of Lincoln, which is also named after Benjamin Lincoln. Lincoln Peak stands within the watershed of Lake Champlain, which drains into the Richelieu River in Québec, then into the Saint Lawrence River, and into the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. The south face of Lincoln Peak drains into Lincoln Brook, then into the Mad River, the Winooski River, and into Lake Champlain. The east side of Lincoln Peak drains into Bradley Brook, then into the Mad River. The northeast side of Lincoln Peak drains into Clay Brook, then into the Mad River. The west face of Lincoln Peak drains by various streams into Beaver Meadow Brook, then into the New Haven River, Otter Creek, and into Lake Champlain. The Long Trail traverses the summit ridge of Lincoln Peak. Sugarbush Resort is on the northeast slope of the mountain.

The Warren Covered Bridge is a wooden covered bridge that crosses the Mad River in Warren, Vermont on Covered Bridge Road. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.The bridge is of queen post truss design. A sign on the bridge also identifies it as the Lincoln Gap covered bridge, despite no official reference to that name. A unique oddity with this bridge is the fact that the eastern portal extends further over the approaching roadway than the western, according to a sign posted in the bridge by the Vermont Festival of the Arts. This trusses on this bridge are covered not only on the outside, but on the inside as well... one of only two bridges left in the state with similar construction (the other being the School House Covered Bridge).

The Warren Village Historic District encompasses the village center of Warren, Vermont, United States. Stretched mainly along Main Street east of the Mad River, it is a well-preserved 19th-century mill village, although most of its period mill infrastructure has been lost. The district has good examples of Greek Revival, Italianate, and Second Empire architecture. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.
