King's Pyon

The Church of St Mary the Virgin, in King's Pyon, Herefordshire, England, is a medieval church dating from the 12th century. It is a Grade I listed building. The church is cruciform in plan and dates from the 12th, 13th and 14th century with additions and restoration in 1872. It is constructed from sandstone rubble with sandstone dressings and some tufa with sandstone slate and tile roofs. The earliest surviving masonry is a section of the north wall of the nave, which can be dated to the early Norman period; possibly as early as the late eleventh century. The church sits on top of a steep slope above a giant redwood tree to the north, planted in memory of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1897. It is one of the Pyon Group of parishes west of Leominster. The parish also includes the small hamlet of Ledgemoor, between Kings Pyon and Weobley, which has its own stone-built mission chapel, and a village hall. Although King's Pyon used to have its own village hall it was demolished almost 60 years ago, and thus the church itself is now the focus of community activities.

The civil parish includes the settlement of Westhope with its tin tabernacle dedicated to St. Francis. The name derives from the nearby Pyon Hill. 'Pyon', is unusual and not used anywhere else in Britain with the exception of the nearby village of King's Pyon.Amenities include a village shop, The Nag's Head public house, a village hall, Canon Pyon CE Primary School, and the 13th-century church of St Lawrence which is a Grade I listed building. Canon Pyon, with King's Pyon, has a magazine: The Pyonear. The Hermitage is a country house near the village, built c1840-1850 and used as the summer retreat of the Bishop of Hereford.

According to the 2001 census, it had a population of 321, increasing to 339 at the 2011 census. The parish was formed on 1 April 1987 from parts of "Birley", Canon Pyon, Hope under Dinmore and King's Pyon.The Grade I listed church of St Peter dates back to the 12th century, and was the subject of restoration work in 2004, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. It is on Historic England's list of buildings at risk.

Brinsop Court, Brinsop, Herefordshire, England is a manor house dating from the 14th century. The house was much extended in the 16th and 17th centuries, and reconstructed in the early 20th century by Henry Avray Tipping. Brinsop contains many period features including fireplaces, ceilings and wooden panelling. The house is surrounded by lawns, encircled by a moat and stands within an 800-acre estate. It remains privately owned and is now primarily used as an events venue.

Weobley High School is a mixed secondary school located in Weobley in the English county of Herefordshire.It is a community school administered by Herefordshire Council, and mainly admits pupils from Canon Pyon, Credenhill, Dilwyn, Staunton on Wye and Weobley. It is a small rural school.The school offers GCSEs and BTECs as programmes of study for pupils.
