Central Jail (Nepali: केन्द्रिय कारागार, Kendriya Karagar) is the largest prison facility of Nepal. It was established in 1971 BS (1914-1915). It is located near Newroad of central Kathmandu. The jail is also called Bhadragol jail (भद्रगोल कारागार).To the east of the jail lies office of the drinking water corporation, Bhotebahal in the west, office of Kathmandu metropolitan in the north. This jail occupies an area of 42 ropanies (about 2.2 hectare). Inside the compound lies Bhadra Jail, Women Jail and Central Jail. There are nine blocks in the central jail, three blocks in Bhadra jail and three in the women jail. In 2070 BS (2013-2014), a hospital was also set up inside the jail for inmates. There is a small textile factory with 74 machines inside the jail.The jail which has capacity for 1250 inmates but it hosts 2,750 prisoners including 350 foreign prisoners. There are plans to expand the jail by shifting to Nuwakot.

Dharahara or Seto Tower (Nepali: धरहरा; pronounced [dʱʌɾʌɦʌɾa] or [dʱʌɾʌːɾa]), is a 72-metre-tall (236 ft) tower at the centre of Sundhara, Kathmandu, Nepal. It was first built in 1832 by Mukhtiyar (equivalent to Prime Minister) Bhimsen Thapa under the commission of Queen Lalit Tripurasundari and was a part of the architecture of Kathmandu recognized by UNESCO. It has been damaged and reconstructed several times. The tower had a spiral staircase containing 213 steps. The eighth floor held a circular balcony for observers that provided a panoramic view of the Kathmandu valley. It also had a 5.2-metre (17 ft) bronze mast on the roof.Most of the tower collapsed in the 25 April 2015 Nepal earthquake, but the base remains. A total of 180 bodies were retrieved from the debris of tower after earthquake. Reconstruction of the tower commenced in October 2018, and it was officially opened on 24 April 2021, one day before the sixth anniversary of the earthquake.

Kathmandu District (Nepali: काठमाडौं जिल्लाListen ; Nepal Bhasa: ये: जिल्ला) is a district located in Kathmandu Valley, Bagmati Province of Nepal. It is one of the 77 districts of Nepal, covers an area of 413.69 km2 (159.73 sq mi), and is the most densely populated district of Nepal with 1,081,845 inhabitants in 2001, 1,744,240 in 2011 and 2,017,532 in 2021. The administrative headquarters of Kathmandu district is located in Kathmandu. The city has 21 post offices which handle mail from across the country and beyond, with Kathmandu DPO having 44,600 as its postal code for international mail delivery services like UPS or DHL Couriers etc.

Jhochhen Tole (Nepali: झोछेँ टोल, romanized: Jhochhen Tole), popularly known as Old Freak Street, or Freak Street is a small neighbourhood located at the south of Kathmandu Durbar Square. Presently known as Old Freak Street, this ancient street was named Freak Street, referring to the hippie trail of the 1960s and 1970s.

Maru (Nepali: मरु) is a historic neighborhood in central Kathmandu, Nepal and one of the most important cultural spots in the city. It is linked with the origin of the name Kathmandu, and forms part of what is generically known as Durbar Square (including Kathmandu Durbar Square, Patan Durbar Square, and Bhaktapur Durbar Square), the old royal palace complexes of temples, shrines and palace buildings all of which have been declared UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Maru is also a market square, a venue for religious festivals and a celebrated residential quarter. It is a crossroads where two ancient trade routes connecting India and Tibet intersect.Maru consists of a large square encircled by temples and rest houses. It presents an example of a temple square typical of traditional Newar urban planning. Streets radiate out from the square, and inconspicuous entryways lead to residential courtyards that are home to silversmiths and other craftsmen.

Nepal Bharat Library or more generally called the Indian Library is run by the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu, Nepal. The library was called Nepal-Bharat Sanskritik Kendra till 2005. The library was established in 1951 after India set up the diplomatic relation with Nepal (13 June 1947) with an aim to enhance and strengthen cultural relations and information exchange between India and Nepal. It is the first foreign library in Nepal. Initially, the library was located in Basantapur, however in 1970, it was relocated to New Road. In 1980s the average visitors were 1,150 per daily. The number of visitors has reduced to about 300 per day in 2020.

Nautalle Durbar (Nepali: नौतले दरबार; sometimes known as Basantapur Durbar (Nepali: बसंतपुर दरबार)) is a palace in Hanuman Dhoka, Kathmandu Durbar Square.It was built by Prithvi Narayan Shah to commemorate the Unification of Nepal. During the April 2015 Nepal earthquake, the top tiers collapsed.Nautalle Durbar also served as the early residence of the King of Nepal.

The Tukucha Khola (Nepali: टुकुचा खोला) is a tributary of the holy Bagmati River in Nepal. The ancient cultural name of this river is Ikshumati and it is called 'Tukucha' (Sugarcane river) in Newari language, which flows through dense settlements between Dhobi Khola and Bishnumati Khola in Kathmandu. This rivulet is originated from chundevi area of Kathmandu behind Nirmal Nivas and merges with Bagmati River after reaching Kalmochan Mahadev temple in Tripureshwar. The length of the rivulet within the main city is estimated to be around 5.9 kilometres (3.7 mi).

Kasthamandap (Sanskrit: काष्ठमण्डप, Nepal Bhasa:मरु सत: Maru Satta:; literally "Wood-Covered Shelter") was a three-storied public shelter that included a shrine consecrated to Gorakshanath situated at Maru, Kathmandu, Nepal. Several myths and stories about the date of the construction of the Kasthamandap have been resolved with the recent archeological findings: newly discovered objects during the excavation in the aftermath of the 2015 earthquake have suggested that the Kasthamandap may have been built in the 7th century during the Lichhavi era.

Gaddi Baithak is a neoclassical palace in Kathmandu Durbar Square. It was built by Chandra Shumsher Jang Bahadur Rana in 1908, and it was used for to coronations and to welcome head of states from other countries.

The Bhandarkhal massacre (Nepali: भण्डारखाल पर्व) was a political massacre that occurred in Bhandarkhal garden of Hanuman Dhoka, Kathmandu on 31 October 1846.It was led by Jung Bahadur Rana, a month after the infamous Kot massacre.

Kathmandu Durbar Square (Nepal Bhasa: येँ लायकु/𑐥𑐾𑑄 𑐮𑐵𑐫𑐎𑐹, Nepali: हनुमानढोका दरबार/ Basantapur Durbar Kshetra) is a historically and culturally significant site in Kathmandu, Nepal. It is one of the three Durbar (royal palace) Squares in the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal that are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Although the construction of the square began in the 3rd century, the major structures within it were added in later periods. The outer complex consists of a number of 16th-century temples built during the reign of Malla kings. These buildings are adorned with meticulously carved facades characteristic to Newar architecture. The central square is surrounded by palace complexes built during the Malla and Shah periods. The most well-known among them is the Nautalle Durbar, a nine-story palace built by Prithvi Narayan Shah to commemorate the Unification of Nepal.A three-story temple called Kumari Chouk or Kumari Bahal is located at the southern edge of the Durbar square. This Malla-era temple is used as the resident of the Kumari, a young girl worshipped as a living embodiment of the Hindu Goddess Durga.
