Stony Creek is located in the western suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It runs through the suburbs of St Albans, Albion, Sunshine, Braybrook, Tottenham, Brooklyn, Kingsville and Yarraville. As of 2011 in its upper reaches Stony Creek's environmental state is very poor; it is best characterised as a concrete stormwater drain for these sections of its course. Through most of Sunshine it has been directed underground coming out at Matthews Hill Reserve. It then becomes a pleasantly treelined creek before passing through heavily industrialised areas. Stony Creek joins the Yarra River under the Westgate Bridge at the Stony Creek Backwash where it is fringed with mangroves. The Friends of Stony Creek is a group that works to restore native vegetation and protect the area.In April 2018, the Upper Stony Creek Transformation, a project to return a 1.2 km section of Stony Creek in Sunshine North to a natural, revegetated creek with vibrant community space and walking paths, commenced. This project is scheduled to be completed in September 2019.In July 2019 the Upper Stony Creek Transformation Project came to a standstill after project costs blew out following the discovery of industrial contamination at the site.In September 2019, the Stony Creek's water has turned blood red which authorities believed to be caused by a dye. The Environmental Protection Agency is still investigating the source of the discolouration.

Tottenham is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 9 km (5.6 mi) west of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Maribyrnong local government area. Tottenham recorded no population at the 2021 census.It is bounded by Sunshine Road to the north, Sredna Street, Paramount Road and Tottenham Parade to the east, Geelong Road to the south and the Newport–Sunshine railway line. Tottenham is mostly an industrial suburb, with the Olex Cable manufacturing facility one of the many industrial businesses located in Tottenham.

White City was a railway station on the Sunbury railway line (then the St Albans line) of the Melbourne suburban rail system in Melbourne, Australia. It was located approximately 700 metres west of Tottenham railway station. The next station down the line was Sunshine.

The Division of Gellibrand is an Australian Electoral Division in Victoria. The division was created in 1949 and is named after Joseph Gellibrand, a pioneer settler of the Melbourne area. It is located in the industrial inner western suburbs of Melbourne and includes Altona, Altona North, Altona Meadows, Kingsville, Laverton, Newport, Seabrook, Seaholme, Seddon, South Kingsville, Spotswood, Williamstown, Williamstown North and Yarraville; and parts of Brooklyn, Footscray, Laverton North, Point Cook, West Footscray and Williams Landing.

The Toyota Australia Altona Plant was a Toyota Australia manufacturing facility in the Melbourne suburb of Altona North.

Altona Memorial Park is a cemetery and crematorium serving the western suburbs of Melbourne. The park opened in January 1961, and is currently operated by Greater Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust (GMCT). They manage eighteen other sites across Victoria, including Preston Cemetery, Fawkner Memorial Park, Coburg Pine Ridge Cemetery and Burwood Cemetery. Opening as a modern cemetery in 1961, Altona Memorial Park features floral landscaped lawns and extensive memorial gardens, differing from the traditional monumental cemetery and creating a haven in the otherwise industrial west of Melbourne. Altona Memorial Park also features a recently refurbished crematorium and two chapels in addition to function facilities. Today it provides burial and cremation services for a broad cross-section of Melbourne's multicultural communities while also mirroring the working class history of Melbourne's west, even playing host to the grave of 'Mr. Football', Ted Whitten. The main gates to the memorial park originally stood at the Eastern Market, Exhibition St, Melbourne.

Tottenham railway station is located on the Sunbury line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the western Melbourne suburb of West Footscray, and it opened on 2 March 1891.The station is located above the Ashley Street rail overpass, which provides station access. Tottenham Yard lies north of the station. A number of freight only lines also operate alongside, along with the Melbourne – Sydney and Melbourne – Adelaide standard gauge lines. The Regional Rail Link lines operate to the south of the station.

Sunshine railway station is located on the Sunbury line in Victoria, Australia. Originally named Braybrook Junction for the convergence of the major railways from central Melbourne to Ballarat and Bendigo, it was renamed when the suburb of Sunshine, which it serves, took its name from the nearby Sunshine Harvester Works. With the expansion of the railway network in Melbourne's west, Sunshine grew in importance, with cross-suburban goods routes constructed to Newport and from the adjacent Albion to Jacana line. From the mid-20th century, it became an interchange for the main interstate routes to South Australia and New South Wales, when the through line from Melbourne to Sydney was completed, although the main line to Adelaide was later diverted. In the early 21st century, the station was demolished and reconstructed to serve the diversion of the main passenger route to Geelong and beyond. It has been identified as a possible route for a future line to Melbourne Airport and as an interchange for the orbital Suburban Rail Loop. Today, Sunshine is served by Metro Trains' services on the Sunbury line, and V/Line services on the Geelong and Ballarat lines. Bendigo and freight services to northern Victoria and towards Sydney also pass through the station. A large bus interchange at the station is a hub for surrounding suburbs.

The Sunshine rail disaster occurred on 20 April 1908 at the junction at Sunshine railway station when a Melbourne-bound train from Bendigo collided with the rear of a train from Ballarat. 44 people were killed and over 400 injured, almost all of them from the Ballarat train, as the Bendigo train was cushioned by its two locomotives.A temporary mortuary was set up at Melbourne's Spencer Street Station to deal with the dead and wounded, who were transported from Sunshine by special relief trains. The disaster is Victoria's worst railway accident in terms of deaths, and is Australia's second-worst after the 1977 Granville rail disaster.The subsequent coronial inquiry found that the two drivers of the Bendigo train as well as the Sunshine stationmaster had a manslaughter case to answer, although all three were later acquitted by the Supreme Court of Victoria.

Caroline Chisholm Catholic College is a Roman Catholic co-educational day school for years 7-12 located in the western suburb of Braybrook in Melbourne, Australia. The college was founded in 1997 by the amalgamation of three colleges, St John's College for Boys, Christ the King College for boys and Chisholm College, a senior co-educational secondary school, all three schools located in the suburb of Braybrook. The college consists of three campuses - Sacred Heart for students from year 10 - 12 boys and girls. St John's Campus for boys from year 7 - 9 and Christ the King Campus for year 7 - 9 Girls. The college is a member of the Sports Association of Catholic Co-educational Secondary Schools (SACCSS) where students compete in a range of sports, including soccer, football, netball, volleyball, swimming and a range of other team and individual sports. The college has a swimming pool, known as the LeBreton swimming center, where they teach and provide education for students on the rules and regulations of water safety.

The electoral district of Footscray is an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It lies just north of Melbourne, covering the suburbs of Footscray, Maidstone, Maribyrnong, Seddon, West Footscray, and parts of Yarraville. The seat was first created by The Electoral Act Amendment Act 1876 taking effect at the 1877 elections. It was abolished in 1904 and recreated in 1927. In its current incarnation it has been held by the Labor Party for its entire existence. It has usually been a comfortably safe Labor seat, as it lies in Labor's traditional heartland of western and northern Melbourne.
