New Gate, Newcastle

The Leazes Park Synagogue is a former synagogue in Leazes Park Road, Newcastle upon Tyne, England. The building was designed in 1880 by Scottish architect John Johnstone, who was also responsible for Newcastle's old town hall. It is a grade II listed building, whose elaborate two-storey sandstone frontage was designed in the North Italian style.The Newcastle Old Hebrew Congregation traces its roots back to 1838 and the founding of Temple Street Synagogue, which merged with the Charlotte Square Synagogue to form the Newcastle United Hebrew Congregation. The amalgamated congregation moved into the new synagogue on Leazes Park Road, which was consecrated on 25 August 1880. There were further mergers in 1924 and 1973, but the Leazes Park Synagogue continued to serve as one of the synagogues of the united congregation until its final closure service on 3 May 1978. The Culzean Park Synagogue in Gosforth is now Newcastle's only active Orthodox synagogue.The synagogue was extended in the 1920s. The synagogue had a basement schoolroom and a Jewish Sports club was formed there in 1934.The Leazes Park Synagogue building was put to use as a shopping arcade until a fire destroyed the interior in 1989. Restoration was completed by 1996 and it is now used for student accommodation.

Eldon Square Bus Station is one of two bus stations serving Newcastle City Centre. It is owned by Newcastle City Council and is managed by Nexus. The new glass-roofed bus station was built adjacent to the old bus station, on a former access road, and is accessible via the new mall. It is located in the Haymarket area of the city centre, a short walk from Newcastle University and Northumbria University. It offers a connection with services from Haymarket Bus Station and Haymarket Metro Station. It is attached to, and accessible from Eldon Square Shopping Centre, which links the bus station with the Northumberland Street and Monument areas of the city.

Eldon Square (stylised as EldonSq.) is a shopping centre in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. It opened in 1976 and was built on the site of Old Eldon Square, a famous part of Georgian Newcastle designed by John Dobson in about 1824. This redevelopment, which left only the eastern terrace standing, has been criticised, with one writer calling it "the greatest single example of architectural vandalism in Britain since the war".When the centre opened it was the largest city-centre shopping centre in the UK. In 2013 it was rebranded as Intu Eldon Square. In 2020, the centre returned to its original name following the collapse of Intu.

Mayfair Ballroom was a ballroom and concert hall situated on Newgate Street in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. The oblong room was built to hold 1,500 people and had a small stage along one of the longer walls. It was also host to a popular rave music event during the early 1990s called the Rezerection. DJs and live PAs including Carl Cox, Joey Beltram, Grooverider, Njoi and The Prodigy performed there. Artists that played the venue, early in their careers, include AC/DC, The Who, Free, Pink Floyd, Queen, the Police, Shy, the Prodigy, Black Grape, the Cross, Kylie Minogue, Daft Punk, Tin Machine, U2, the Clash, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Faith No More, Judas Priest, Bodycount and Nirvana, The Glitter Band among others. Jet played at the venue in 1975, when guitarist David O'List David O'List tied himself up with his guitar cord, collapsing to the floor and unable to resume a vertical position until rescued by the road crew. Led Zeppelin's first ever live performance in the United Kingdom was at the Mayfair Ballroom on 4 October 1968. Free's final live performance in the UK took place at the venue on 20 October 1972. At the end of the show, guitarist Paul Kossoff broke the neck of his cherished Les Paul guitar after uncharacteristically throwing it into the air in frustration. In 1999 the Mayfair was demolished and replaced with a mall called The Gate. The closing night was attended by 5,000 people.

Newgate Court is a student accommodation building in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. The 185,000 sq.ft building was designed by Urban Innovations and contains 575 student bedrooms. The building sits on the site of the former Newgate Shopping Centre which opened in the 1969. Outlets of Subway and German Doner Kebab are located on the lower floor facing Newgate Street. A 265-bedroom hotel and business centre owned by Dalata is also part of the development and houses an indoor crazy golf course.

Monument Mall is a shopping centre in central Newcastle upon Tyne, England. Formerly owned by St Martins Property Group, it was acquired by the retail property company Hammerson for £28m in March 2011.The Mall opened in 1990 adjacent to the Monument station on the Tyne and Wear Metro. It is also directly in front of Grey's Monument and Grey Street, and has an entrance on Northumberland Street.

Bainbridge's was a major department store in Eldon Square in the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne, England. The store, which is now branded as John Lewis Newcastle, moved to its current site in 1974, but the company dates back to 1838. It claimed to be the first true department store in the world, having begun recording weekly turnover separately by department in 1849. In 2002, after a vote by store employees, the owner John Lewis changed the official name to John Lewis Newcastle.

The Chinatown in Newcastle is a district of Newcastle upon Tyne, located in the west of the city, on the edge of the shopping and commercial centre, along Stowell Street. It is one of five Chinatowns in England, with the other four being in London, Birmingham, Manchester, and Liverpool.

Haymarket bus station is a bus station located in the Haymarket area of Newcastle upon Tyne. It is situated next to the Haymarket Metro station, by the northern end of Northumberland Street and almost adjacent to Newcastle University.
