Pleasant Valley Country Club

The 1974 LPGA Championship was the 20th LPGA Championship, held June 20–23 at Pleasant Valley Country Club in Sutton, Massachusetts, southeast of Worcester. Sandra Haynie, the 1965 champion, won her second LPGA Championship, two strokes ahead of JoAnne Carner. It was the second of her four major titles.

The 1970 LPGA Championship was the 16th LPGA Championship, held June 11–15 at Pleasant Valley Country Club in Sutton, Massachusetts, southeast of Worcester. In an 18-hole Monday playoff, Shirley Englehorn won her only major title, defeating 1967 champion Kathy Whitworth by four strokes. Englehorn bogeyed the second hole and parred the rest for a 74 (+1). Three years earlier Pleasant Valley, Whitworth had bested Englehorn by a stroke in 1967, after the pair had co-led after 54 holes. It was Englehorn's fourth consecutive victory during the 1970 season; defending champion Betsy Rawls tied for 26th, 21 strokes back.This was the third LPGA Championship held at Pleasant Valley in four years, and the third of seven in an eight-year stretch.

The 1971 LPGA Championship was the 17th LPGA Championship, held June 10–13 at Pleasant Valley Country Club in Sutton, Massachusetts, southeast of Worcester. Kathy Whitworth, the 1967 champion, won the second of her three LPGA Championship titles, four strokes ahead of runner-up Kathy Ahern, who won the following year. It was the fifth of Whitworth's six major titles.

The 1967 LPGA Championship was the thirteenth LPGA Championship, held July 13–16 at Pleasant Valley Country Club in Sutton, Massachusetts, southeast of Worcester. Kathy Whitworth sank a fifty-foot (15 m) birdie putt on the final hole to win the first of her three LPGA Championships, one stroke ahead of runner-up Shirley Englehorn; the two were in the final pairing as 54-hole co-leaders at 215 (−4). With three holes to play, Whitworth led by two strokes, but an Englehorn birdie on 16 and a Whitworth bogey on 17 left them tied on the final tee. Defending champion Gloria Ehret finished thirteen strokes back, tied for tenth. It was the third of Whitworth's six major titles. This was the first of seven LPGA Championships held at Pleasant Valley in an eight-year stretch.

The 1968 LPGA Championship was the fourteenth LPGA Championship, held June 20–24 at Pleasant Valley Country Club in Sutton, Massachusetts, southeast of Worcester. In an 18-hole Monday playoff, Sandra Post won her only major title, defeating defending champion and LPGA president Kathy Whitworth by seven strokes. Post turned 20 earlier in the month and this was the first of her eight victories on the LPGA Tour. It was the only women's major won by a Canadian for 48 years, until 18-year-old Brooke Henderson won this event in 2016. This was the second consecutive LPGA Championship held at Pleasant Valley, and the second of seven in an eight-year stretch. The PGA Tour also played at the course this year; the inaugural Kemper Open was held in mid-September, won by Arnold Palmer.

The 1973 LPGA Championship was the 19th LPGA Championship, held June 7–10 at Pleasant Valley Country Club in Sutton, Massachusetts, southeast of Worcester. Mary Mills, the 1964 champion, won her second LPGA Championship, a stroke ahead of runner-up Betty Burfeindt. She entered the final round one stroke behind the three co-leaders; and carded a three-under 70 to gain her third and final major title.

The 1972 LPGA Championship was the 18th LPGA Championship, held June 8–11 at Pleasant Valley Country Club in Sutton, Massachusetts, southeast of Worcester. Kathy Ahern shot a final round 69 (−4) to win her only major title, six strokes ahead of runner-up Jane Blalock. Ahern began the final round with a one-stroke lead over three players; after five straight birdies on the front nine, she had a six-stroke lead and shot even par on the final nine.Three weeks later, Ahern was a runner-up by a stroke at the U.S. Women's Open at Winged Foot, then won the week after at the George Washington Classic near Philadelphia.

The Freegrace Marble Farm Historic District encompasses a historic farmstead in Sutton, Massachusetts. Although most of its buildings date to the 19th century, the farm has retained the form of a typical 18th-century farm, including a substantial portion of the land granted in 1717 to Freegrace Marble, one of Sutton's earliest colonial settlers. The property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

South County is a region comprising several towns in the south-central area of Massachusetts. As it has no legal standing in state government, definitions of the region vary. The term "South County" is usually understood to refer to southern Worcester County, Massachusetts, including those towns southwest, south or southeast of the county seat, Worcester. The region's leading daily newspaper, the Telegram & Gazette of Worcester, defines South County differently, placing the region's eastern border at the Auburn, Oxford and Webster; it places towns in southeastern Worcester County in the Blackstone Valley region. The Telegram West/South edition also includes "South County" news from neighboring towns in Hampden County, Massachusetts and Windham County, Connecticut, however. South County towns include (towns fitting both definitions in bold): A broader definition defines "South County" as all parts of the county that are not part of "North County". In this definition, towns that align economically with Fitchburg and Leominster are "North County", while towns closer to Worcester—as well as Worcester itself—are "South County".

Sutton, officially the Town of Sutton, is a town in Worcester County, Massachusetts. The population was 9,357 in the 2020 United States Census. Located in the Blackstone Valley, the town was designated as a Preserve America community in 2004.

The Sutton Center Historic District is a historic district encompassing the center of the village of Sutton, Massachusetts. The district, which covers 435 acres (176 ha), is centered on the junction of Boston Road, Singletary Avenue, and Uxbridge Road. Boston Road is a major east–west route through the town, and the other two roads run north–south through the village center. The Colombian building was built in 1957. A typically rural village center, its civic and institutional buildings are clustered near the intersection on its south side, in the general area of the town common. The town common and cemetery were laid out in 1719, after settlement of the township began in 1716. There are a few surviving houses that date to the middle of the 18th century or earlier; exact dates for most are uncertain. There are only a few institutional buildings: the 1829 Congregational Church, the 1983 Town Hall, built on the site of the town's first purpose-built town hall (1885), and Rufus Putnam Hall, an 1824 school building and Masonic lodge that now houses the local history museum. Only one commercial structure the 1839 Brick Block, stands in the village. There is also a historic animal pound, a rectangular stone structure used to pen stray livestock, which dates to the early days of the town.Most of the district consists of residential and rural properties. The residential housing stock dates from the 18th to the 20th century, featuring a diversity of architectural styles. There are a significant number of 19th century farm outbuildings that have survived, predominantly barns. There are in all more than 120 contributing resources.The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.

Purgatory Chasm State Reservation is a protected state park in Sutton, Massachusetts. Located within Blackstone Valley, the reservation is managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation.
