St. Xavier's College, Thumba, was founded by the Jesuits in 1964, and is affiliated with the University of Kerala. It awards nine undergraduate degrees and two postgraduate degree.

VSSC Central School is an English-medium co-educational public school located in the suburb of Thumba, in Thiruvananthapuram, in the Indian state of Kerala. The school offers programmes from grades 1–12. Admission is restricted to children of the employees of the Indian Space Research Organisation . It is a full-fledged senior secondary school, offering five streams at the +2 level with almost 1000 students and 60 staff members. It is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi. It was founded in 1976 with 28 students and four teachers to cater to the educational needs of the children of employees of the ISRO , residing in the ISRO staff quarters. Today, the school has a large campus with five interlinked blocks. There are more than 50 teaching staff, 10 non teaching and five office staff. The school has facilities which include a digital library, football, basketball and hockey courts, assembly and conference halls, 5 staff rooms, sports room, music and arts room, and offers yoga and table tennis facilities. The school also has an Indian Air Force National Cadet Corps squadron with over 50 cadets (affiliated to No.1 KER/AIR/SQN/NCC).

Thumba Equatorial Rocket Launching Station (TERLS),Thiruvananthapuram is an Indian spaceport established on 21 November 1963. Operated by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), it is located in Thumba, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, which is near the southwestern tip of mainland India, very close to Earth's magnetic equator. It is currently used by ISRO for launching sounding rockets.The first rockets were assembled in the former St Louis High School, which now houses a space museum. The local Bishop of Trivandrum, Rev. Peter Bernard Periera, along with Vincent Victor Dereere (a Belgian) and district collector Madhavan Nair were instrumental in acquiring a large parcel of land measuring 600 acres from coastal community. Periera had given away the prayer hall and bishop's room in the local church. Minister of State for External Affairs, Lakshmi N. Menon helped to smooth bureaucratic hurdles facing the project in Delhi. H. G. S. Murthy was appointed as the first Director of Thumba Equatorial Rocket Launching Station.Rockets launched from the site include RH-300, M-100, Nike Apache, Arcas, Boosted Arcas, Skua 1, Centaure, Centaure 2A, Centaure 2B, Nike Tomahawk, Dragon 1, Judi-Dart, Boosted Arcas 2, Petrel 1, RH-75, Skua 2, Sandhawk Tomahawk, Menaka II, RH-125, M-100B, M-100A, RH-200 and RH-300 Mk II.The site has five launchpads: Thumba Pad 1 to 4, for sounding rockets Thumba Pad 5: RH-300 launch complex, active after 1993

St. Andrews is a seaside hamlet located in the city of Trivandrum, Trivandrum district of Kerala. It is situated 19 km (12 mi) northwest of city centre, 16 km (9.9 mi) from Trivandrum International Airport. It is known for its pristine beach (St. Andrews Beach). It is a hamlet with a "melting pot" of several cultures and traditions. The village is mostly covered with coconut palms. Its western side edges the Arabian sea, while the east is separated by Parvathi Puthannaar, a manmade canal completed during the time of Regent Sethu Lakshmi Bayi of Travancore Kingdom. Access to National Highway (NH 66) and a railway station is as short as 3 km (1.9 mi) and the Vikram Sarabhai Space Center (VSSC) of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is close by.

Technopark is a technology park in Thiruvananthapuram in the state of Kerala, India. Established on 28 July 1990 by the Government of Kerala, under chief minister E K Nayanar, it is one the largest information technology (IT) park in India in terms of developed area..Technopark is the first IT Park of India Technopark has 10.6 million sq ft (980 thousand m2) of built-up area, and is home to over 480 companies, employing more than 70,500 professionals, and it is still expanding, adding another 37 hectares (91 acres) as part of Phase III expansion, and 423 acres (171 ha) as Technocity—an integrated IT township near Pallippuram. The policy of economic liberalisation initiated by the government of India in 1991, and the rapid growth of the global software industry during the 1990s, substantially contributed to this growth. During the global financial crisis of 2007–2010, the park saw a period of reduced growth in 2009–10, when exports were only 2.8% more than the previous year. During the 2016-17 financial year, the park recorded IT exports of Rs. 5,000 crores.Technopark is owned and administered by the Government of Kerala and is headed by a chief executive officer. In addition to this, it has a governing council and a Project Implementation Board, both of which include top officials of the government. Administrative offices, including that of the CEO, are housed in the Park Centre building. Technopark also hosts a Technology Business Incubation Cell under Kerala Startup Mission. Technopark houses domestic firms, joint ventures, and subsidiaries of foreign companies engaged in a wide variety of activities, which include embedded software development, smart card technology, enterprise resource planning (ERP), process control software design, engineering and computer-aided design software development, IT Enabled Services (ITES), process re-engineering, animation, and e-business.

The Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) is a major space research centre of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), focusing on rocket and space vehicles for India's satellite programme. It is located in Thiruvananthapuram, in the Indian state of Kerala. The centre had its beginnings as the Thumba Equatorial Rocket Launching Station (TERLS) in 1962. It was renamed in honour of Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, often regarded as the father of the Indian space program. H.G.S. Murthy was appointed as the first director of Thumba Equatorial Rocket Launching Station.The Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre is one of the main research and development establishments within ISRO. VSSC is an entirely indigenous facility working on the development of sounding rockets, the Rohini and Menaka launchers, and SLV, ASLV, PSLV, GSLV and GSLV Mk III families of launch vehicles.

There are two man made hills — one on the south (Thekkekkunnu)and the other on the north (Vadakkekkunnu), which are believed to have been made during the time of Portuguese.India's first DNA-Barcoding Centre, set up at bio-informatic centre for Tropical Garden and Research institute at Puthenthope. Famous Malayalam Cine Artist Alencier Ley Lopez hails from Puthenthope.

St Ignatius Church, Thiruvananthapuram is a Catholic church located in the Kadinamkulam panchayat of Trivandrum, Kerala, India. The church is the center of all religious and social activities. The present church was built in 1989. The foundation stone was blessed by Pope John Paul II during his visit to Trivandrum in 1986. The church is the replica of St.Joseph's Cathedral in Trivandrum City. A grotto of Mary is also built in front of the church and the statue of Mary in the grotto was brought from Lourde by a native of Puthenthope. A parochial house, which shows the typical architecture of Kerala is also situated nearby the church. St.Ignatius Parish community hall is another building situated along with the church in the junction of Puthenthope.

Sree Kulathoor Kolathukara Shiva Temple is a Hindu temple located in Thiruvananthapuram in the Indian state of Kerala, in 1893. The temple was built at the request of Narayana Guru in 1915.This is the temple where Sree Narayana Guru performed Shiva Pratishtha for the second time. Before that, Bhadrakali was the deity there. It was at this temple that Sri Narayana Guru composed the Kolatireshastavam in praise of Kolathukara Mahadeva.

University College of Engineering (UCEK), Kariavattom, Thiruvananthapuram is a premier engineering college run by the management of University of Kerala. The institute was established in the year 2000. The college functions in the Golden Jubilee Complex of the Karyavattom campus, University of Kerala, India. After the establishment of APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (formerly, Kerala Technological University) in 2014, UCEK is the only engineering college affiliated with the University of Kerala.
