Rancho Los Alamitos takes its name from an 1834 Mexican partition of the 1784 Rancho Los Nietos, a Spanish concession, covering an area in present-day California's southwestern Los Angeles County and northwestern Orange County. Los Alamitos means the Little Cottonwoods or Poplars in Spanish, after the native Fremont Cottonwood trees there. Rancho Los Alamitos originally included much of the area of present-day eastern Long Beach, all of Los Alamitos and Rossmoor, and most of Seal Beach, Cypress, Stanton and Garden Grove. It is also sometimes referred to as Bixby Ranch, after its last private owners. The early 19th century adobe ranch house still stands today, housing a museum which presents the history of the area.

Los Cerritos Wetlands is located in both Los Angeles County and Orange County in the cities of Long Beach, California, and Seal Beach, California. The San Gabriel River, historically and currently flows through the Los Cerritos Wetlands Complex.Los Cerritos Wetlands is very close to the Pacific Ocean with waters at high tides bringing shallow ocean water over portions of the marshland. Some portions of Los Cerritos Wetlands are fed by winter rainfall creating ephemeral pools. Once a vast marsh covering approximately 2,400 acres (971 ha), Los Cerritos Wetland are now smaller but still maintain ecological function and ecosystem processes. They were historically the wetlands of Puvunga.

Bogart's was a 300-capacity music venue located at 6288 Pacific Coast Highway in Long Beach, California. The club opened in 1987 and closed in 1993.Performers at Bogart's included Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Sublime, Robin Trower, Jonathan Richman, Prong, Faith No More and Mark Farner.

Marina Pacifica is a marina-adjacent shopping mall featuring movie theaters, shopping, dining & copious parking. It is in southeastern Long Beach, California between Second Street and the Los Cerritos Channel. The shopping center has variously been named Marina Pacifica Mall and Marina Pacifica Shopping Center. Original construction of the shopping center in 1972-3 was a $10 million project of the Robert Tebbe and Southern California Financial corporations on 143 acres of land, an old oil tank farm and several capped oil wells, providing 250,000 square feet (23,000 m2) of gross leasable area for retail, a cinema and offices, oriented to the adjacent marina. The concept was one of a "Mediterranean spa", and peach, oleander and other trees were planted. There was a bridge to an adjacent residential complex.Long Beach-based Buffums department store moved in as an anchor in 1976, building a two-story, 39,000-square-foot (3,600 m2) store designed by Associated Architects and Planners of Los Angeles, and moving its Marina branch from a smaller adjacent 17,000-square-foot (1,600 m2) location. At the time, the new Buffum's formed part of a 108-store, six-restaurant center.A 21,000-square-foot AMC Theatres multicinema was added in 1984.By 1990, the Los Angeles Times characterized Marina Pacifica as an example of "the wrong way to build a mall", a "graveyard", with the staircases too hard to find, lack of a way between shops without traversing the parking lot, vacant storefronts, and a lack of attention. At the time, it was envisioned that Triple Five Joshi Development Co., partner of the Triple Five conglomerate that built the West Edmonton Mall, the world's largest at the time, would buy the Marina Pacifica Mall.Buffum's closed all its branches including Marina Pacifica in 1990. In May 2020 it was announced Pier 1 would close all locations, including the Marinia Pacifica location. It was closed by August 2020. Tower Records closed in 2007 and was replaced by Best Buy in 2008, which closed in October 2018. Club Studio, a new concept of luxury gym run by LA Fitness, has opened in this location since September 2023. Current tenants include Nordstrom Rack, AMC Theatres, Barnes & Noble, Sit 'n Sleep, Acapulco, Buffalo Wild Wings, Chipotle, Starbucks, Ulta Beauty, Club Studio, and a Ralphs supermarket.

California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) is a public research university in Long Beach, California. The 322-acre campus is the second largest in the California State University system (CSU). The university is one of the largest in the state of California by enrollment with a student body numbering 38,273 for the fall 2022 semester. With 5,562 graduate students as of fall 2022, the university enrolls one of the largest graduate student populations across the CSU system and in the state of California. CSULB is classified among "R2: Doctoral Universities – High Research Activity," reflecting the university's evolution from a master's-level comprehensive university to one that awards doctorate degrees.The university is home to one of the largest publicly funded art schools in the United States. The university currently operates with one of the lowest student tuition and mandatory fee rates in the country, at $5,742 per semester for full-time students with California residence as of 2022-23. The Gold Mine is a 1,900-seat multi-purpose arena in Long Beach, California on the campus of California State University, Long Beach. Opened in the late 1950s, it was known as University Gym. The Gold Mine was home to Long Beach State's basketball and volleyball teams until the Walter Pyramid opened in 1994. It used to have nearly 2400 wooden bleacher seats before a mid-80s renovation. [1] The Gold Mine is still occasionally used for volleyball and basketball games, if there is a scheduling conflict at the Pyramid. Today, its primary function is for Long Beach State intramural sports and other campus events.

George Allen Field is a 1,000 seat soccer stadium on the campus of California State University, Long Beach in Long Beach, California. It is named after Los Angeles Rams and Washington Redskins head coach George Allen.

The Music Department at the California State University, Northridge offers studying and performing opportunities in connection with the leading educational institutions and cultural venues of the Los Angeles area.

The Bob Cole Conservatory of Music is the school of music at California State University, Long Beach. In March 2008, the music department was renamed the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music in honor of an endowment gift of $16.4 million from the estate of Robert "Bob" Cole. Cole, a Long Beach real estate investor, long-time music lover, and amateur pianist, died in 2004. Following its disbursement, the gift will benefit the students of the conservatory in the form of scholarships and other awards.

The Long Beach Marine Stadium is a marine venue located in Long Beach, California. Created in 1932 to host the rowing events for the 1932 Summer Olympics in neighboring Los Angeles, the stadium was the first manmade rowing course in the United States.

The Richard and Karen Carpenter Performing Arts Center in Long Beach, California is a theater that hosts a variety of events, including films, forums, and musical and theatrical performances. The venue is located on the campus of California State University, Long Beach. It was built in 1994 and has seating for 1,054. The stage area was modeled after the New York State Theater of the Arts at Lincoln Center. The Carpenter Performing Arts Center is named for Richard and Karen Carpenter, alumni of the university and donors to the center. Musical Theatre West has been producing shows at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center since 1997.
