Machelen, Zulte

The Vinkt massacre (Dutch: Bloedbad van Vinkt) was a war crime committed by German soldiers in the villages of Vinkt and Meighem in East Flanders on 26–28 May 1940 during the Battle of the Lys. Between 86 and 140 civilians were deliberately killed by Wehrmacht troops from the 377th Infantry Regiment of the 225th Infantry Division, supposedly in retaliation for the Belgian Army's resistance in the village.

Museum van Deinze en de Leiestreek (Dutch for 'Museum of Deinze and the Leie region'), also known as mudel, is a museum of fine arts and folklore located in the city of Deinze, Belgium. The permanent exhibition displays exclusively artworks produced by artists who worked or lived in the region from about 1879 to today as well as folkloristic objects.

British European Airways Flight 706 (BE706/BEA706) was a scheduled international passenger flight from United Kingdom to Salzburg, Austria. On 2 October 1971, whilst en route at 19,000 feet (5,791 m), the Vickers Vanguard suffered a failure with its rear cabin pressure bulkhead. The resulting depressurisation of the tail section caused the surfaces of the tailplanes to separate. The aircraft entered an uncontrollable dive and crashed near Aarsele, Belgium, killing all 63 passengers and crew on impact. A piece of debris from the aircraft struck a passing car, causing minor injuries to one of its occupants. United Kingdom AAIB concluded that the failure of the rear pressure bulkhead had been caused by undetected corrosion located at the rear of the aircraft. The corrosion couldn't be noticed by crew due to the inspection technique that had been applied by BEA. Numerous pressurization cycles caused the crack to grow, weakening the rear pressure bulkhead until the structure was unable to withstand further repeated stress.

The municipality comprised the towns of Kruishoutem proper, Nokere and Wannegem-Lede. In January 2018, the municipality of Kruishoutem had a total population of 8,086. The total area is 46.76 km2. On 1 January 2019, Kruishoutem and Zingem merged into the new municipality of Kruisem. The SONS Museum is located in Kruisem.

Zingem (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈzɪŋɛm]) is a village and former municipality located in the Belgian province of East Flanders. The municipality comprised the towns of Huise, Ouwegem and Zingem proper. In 2018, the municipality of Zingem had a total population of 7,552. The total area is 23.93 km2.Effective 1 January 2019, Kruishoutem and Zingem merged into the new municipality of Kruisem.Home to the Meuleken 't Dal - This is one of the smallest windmills in East Flanders and once owned by the Ghent Sint-Pietersabdij. The province made the mill turn and grind again.

Zulte (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈzʏltə] ) is a Belgian municipality located in Flanders and in the Flemish province of East Flanders. The municipality comprises the towns of Machelen, Olsene and Zulte proper. In 2021, Zulte had a total population of 15,843. The total area is 32.52 km2.The town used to have its own beer since 1891 (simply called Zulte) but today they are part of Alken-Maes breweries. The main football club from Zulte merged with KSV Waregem to form a team called SV Zulte Waregem that plays in the Belgian Pro League as of 2006.

Kruisem (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈkrœy̯sɛm]) is a municipality in the Belgian province of East Flanders that was established on 1 January 2019 from the merging of the municipalities of Kruishoutem and Zingem. The merged municipality has an area of 71.59 km2 and a population of 15,876 people as of 2022. The municipality consists of the deelgemeentes Huise, Kruishoutem, Nokere, Ouwegem, Wannegem-Lede and Zingem.

Dentergem (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈdɛntərɣɛm] ) is a municipality, located in the Belgian province of West Flanders. The municipality comprises the towns of Dentergem proper, Markegem, Oeselgem and Wakken. On January 1, 2006, Dentergem had a total population of 8,188. The total area is 25.94 km2 which gives a population density of 316 inhabitants per km2.
