The Brandaris is a lighthouse on the Dutch Wadden Sea island Terschelling, in Friesland. It is the oldest lighthouse in the Netherlands, listed as a Rijksmonument, number 35032 and rated with a very high historical value.

West-Terschelling (West Frisian: West-Skylge) is the largest village on Terschelling in the province Friesland, the Netherlands. It had a population of around 2,602 in January 2017.The skyline of the village is dominated by the Brandaris lighthouse, the village had also been named Sint Brandariusparochie, Sint-Brandariuskerke and just Brandaris in earlier centuries.

Holmes's Bonfire was a raid on the Vlie estuary in the Netherlands, executed by the English Fleet during the Second Anglo-Dutch War on 19 and 20 August 1666 New Style (9 and 10 August Old Style). The attack, named after the commander of the landing force, Rear-Admiral Robert Holmes, was successful in destroying by fire a large merchant fleet of 140 ships. During the same action, the town of West-Terschelling was burnt down, which caused outrage in the Dutch Republic.

Maritime Institute Willem Barentsz (MIWB, Dutch: Maritiem Instituut Willem Barentsz) is an educational institution located on Terschelling, one of the West Frisian Islands in the northern part of the Netherlands. The maritime academy was founded in 1875 and today it is part of NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences. MIWB is named after navigator and explorer Willem Barentsz, who was born on the island. MIWB is a member of IASST.

Oerol (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈurɔl]) is a cultural festival on the island of Terschelling in the Netherlands that is held annually in June. The ten-day festival is focused on live, public theatre as well as music and visual arts. This festival was founded in 1981 by Joop Mulder, then owner of café De Stoep in Midsland. The first edition took place on June 18, 1982.

Kinnum (West Frisian: Kinum) is a small village on Terschelling in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. It had a population of around 33 in January 2017.

De Grië is a restaurant located in Oosterend, Terschelling, in the Netherlands. It is a fine dining restaurant that was awarded one Michelin star in 1993 and retained that rating until 2005. For 2007, it was again awarded a Michelin star.Head chef of De Grië is Joos van Strien. In the time of the Michelin star, Ton van Scheppingen was the head chef.The restaurant was originally located at "Hoofdstraat 43" in Oosterend. In 2006 the restaurant moved to the new hotel Paal 8 Hotel aan Zee. Due to the move, the restaurant lost its Michelin star but won it back a year later. After a disagreement with the interim-management, Van Scheppingen left the restaurant in July 2007. Consequently, the restaurant lost its star.

The Vlie or Vliestroom is the seaway between the Dutch islands of Vlieland, to its southwest, and Terschelling, to its northeast. The Vlie was the estuary of the river IJssel in medieval times. In 1666 the English Admiral Robert Holmes burnt a Dutch merchant fleet of 130 ships (Holmes's Bonfire), that had taken refuge in the Vlie, mistakenly supposing the English could never find their way through the treacherous shoals along its coastline. Today it's still possible to reach the port of Harlingen by way of the Vlie. It is often supposed that the old Roman name for the lake that later would become the Zuiderzee: Lacus Flevo, is etymologically related to the name "Vlie" and that perhaps Vlie was once the name of the entire lake and the big river that flowed out of it. In the 13th century large floods widened the estuary and destroyed much of the peat land behind, creating a continuous area of sand and mudflats connecting the sea to the enlarged inland lake and obscuring the flow of the river. When the Afsluitdijk was created, the old streambed from the river to the sea was obstructed. The construction of the Afsluitdijk caused a 19% increase of current velocity in Vliestroom.

Midsland (West Frisian: Midslân) is the second-largest village on the Dutch island of Terschelling in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. It had a population of around 1,018 in January 2017.A statue was placed near the village in 1982 commemorating Het Stryper Wyfke, an old crone who deceived English troops and saved the island's civilian population during Holmes's Bonfire in 1666.

Landerum is a small village on Terschelling in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. It had a population of around 96 in January 2017.

Koffiemolen (English: Coffee Mill) or Formerumermolen (English: Mill of Formerum) is a smock mill in Formerum, on the island of Terschelling, Friesland, Netherlands which was built in 1876 and has been restored to working order. The mill is listed as a Rijksmonument, number 35076.

Formerum (West Frisian: Formearum) is a village on Terschelling in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. It had a population of around 211 in January 2017. The Russian ship Oka 18 sank in 1966 near this village. Until recently her funnel could be seen rising out from the sea. The village boasts a smock mill, the Koffiemolen. It was the birthplace of the 16th century Dutch Arctic explorer Willem Barentsz.
