Branchton railway station is a railway station in Scotland opened in 1967 under British Rail located in the south-west of the town of Greenock, beside the area called Branchton. The station is on the Inverclyde Line, 24+3⁄4 mi (40 km) west of Glasgow Central. The station is managed by ScotRail.

Branchton (Scots: Branchtoun, Scottish Gaelic: Brainsdean) is an area within the Scottish town of Greenock, in Inverclyde. Tenements used to dominate the area, which acquired a reputation as socially disadvantaged, but a recent cash injection means that the area is being redeveloped with new housing and community projects. Branchton railway station is on the Wemyss Bay to Glasgow Central line. The road up to the Branchton houses from the main A78 Inverkip road rises up an embankment and over a railway bridge just to the north of the station.

Inverclyde Academy is a secondary school in Greenock, Scotland that provides education to the majority of the Inverclyde area. The catchment area for the Academy stretches from the Inverclyde border at Wemyss Bay to Greenock's East End and Strone Farm areas. The school was created by the amalgamation of Greenock High School and Wellington Academy and cost £29 million to open.

Inverclyde Royal Hospital is a district general hospital in Greenock which serves a population area of 125,000 consisting of Inverclyde (including Greenock), Largs, Isle of Bute and Cowal Peninsula. Inverclyde Royal Hospital is one of three main hospitals in the South Clyde area, alongside Vale of Leven Hospital in Alexandria and Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley and is managed by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

Clydeview Academy is a non-denominational secondary school situated in Gourock, Inverclyde. It was founded in 2011 and opened to pupils on 17 August 2011. The first head teacher of the school was William Todd. The school is a modern merger of two secondary schools from the local area, Greenock Academy and Gourock High School which both closed at the end of the 2010 summer term. The school is founded on the old site of St. Columbas High School, Gourock which is known as the Bayhill site. The feeder schools are: Greenock; Ardgowan Primary School, Gourock; Moorfoot Primary School and Gourock Primary School.

St Columba's High School is a co-educational six-year Roman Catholic, comprehensive secondary school, located next to Tower Hill Gourock, Inverclyde, Scotland. The school serves south west Greenock, Gourock, Inverkip and Wemyss Bay. The current enrolment (2018) is 682 pupils. The school won the Platinum Award in Enterprise Inverclyde Standards and Quality Report 2005/2006. The school also received top marks from the last visit by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Education. It is also the first school in Inverclyde to receive Charter Mark status, for providing outstanding customer service.

Ravenscraig Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium, in Greenock, Inverclyde, Scotland. The stadium is primarily set up for athletics, with a running track, but it is also the traditional home of Greenock Juniors Football Club. The stadium underwent a £1.7 million refurbishment in preparation for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.The stadium was built in 1958 with a cinder track, upgraded to synthetic in 1992. Replacement floodlighting was announced in 2015.In the 1959–60 season, a capacity crowd of 8,200 watched Greenock Juniors draw 1–1 in a Scottish Junior Cup quarter final with Johnstone Burgh. In November 1972 the stadium hosted the first ever official international women's football match to be played in Great Britain. Scotland was defeated 3–2 by England. This was almost exactly a hundred years after the first men's international between the two nations.

Ravenscraig railway station was a railway station located south west of the town of Greenock, Inverclyde, Scotland, originally as part of the Greenock and Wemyss Bay Railway and later owned by the Caledonian Railway. The Greenock suburbs now border the site of the station, but When the station opened in 1865, the area was entirely farmland, the nearest suburb being 1.5 miles (2.4 km) away at Cornhaddock. Even when the station closed in 1944, it was still some distance from the nearest suburb, which was 1.0 mile (1.6 km) away at Gateside.Smithston Poorhouse and Asylum opened in 1879, this was located around 0.7 miles (1.1 km) from the station as the crow flies. It was renamed Ravenscraig Hospital when it came under NHS control in 1948. This was four years after the station closed, therefore the name of the station and that of the hospital are not directly connected.

The lands of Finnart to the west of Greenock belonged to the Earl of Douglas in medieval times. Around 1455 they were forfeited to the crown. Finnart was given to the Hamiltons, while the western part of the barony of Finnart went to Stewart of Castlemilk and became the barony of Finnart-Stewart, or Gourock. Sir James Hamilton of Finnart inherited the barony and rose to high office, but was beheaded and his estates forfeited, with his Finnart lands going to Shaw of Sauchie and Greenock. These estates subsequently became the west end of Greenock. The northern part of the Finnart-Stewart estates forms the main part of modern Gourock, while the remainder now accommodates the housing estates of south-west Greenock.

HMP Greenock is a prison located in Greenock, Scotland, serving designated courts in western Scotland by holding male prisoners on remand, and short-term convicted prisoners. It also provides a national facility for selected prisoners serving 12 years or over, affording them the opportunity for progression towards release. It also accommodates a small number of female prisoners ranging from remand to long-term. Although officially labelled as HMP Greenock, it continues to be known by its original name Gateside Prison.

Lyle Hill stands at the West End of Greenock in Inverclyde, Scotland. It has scenic viewpoints accessible from Lyle Road, which was constructed in 1879–1880 and named after Provost Abram Lyle, well known as a sugar refiner. The hill's highest point is Craigs Top at 426 feet (130 m) above sea level, and before the road was constructed the hill was known as the Craigs, or as the Bingens (with various spellings). Adjacent to the highest point of the road, a scenic viewpoint looks out over Gourock and the Firth of Clyde to Cowal in the west, and north over the Fort Matilda area of Greenock to Argyll across the Clyde. There are benches, information points, and a beacon which is lit on significant occasions. Car parking spaces give views to the west, and a short distance further down the road the Free French Memorial is in the shape of the Cross of Lorraine combined with an anchor. Across the road, steps and a rough path lead up to a viewpoint at Craigs Top with views up the River Clyde as far as Glasgow.

Braeside is a neighbourhood situated on the far west side of Greenock, in Inverclyde, Scotland. It has one primary schools in its vicinity, Aileymill, a high school Inverclyde Academy and used to have a special needs school for handicapped children, Glenburn which for a while was ear marked to be demolished and become the site of Scotland's new national female prison HMP Inverclyde however this is no longer happening. It has a pub which is very much a village pub "the burns lounge " known as the burns .Like many of Greenock's estates it is named after the farm which once stood on its site.During drainage work in 1955 a cow horn was found, about 4 feet (1.2 m) below ground level. It contained around sixty Scottish coins dating from 1543 to around 1570, implying that the hoard was buried in the mid-1570s. The earlier coins date from the reign of Mary, Queen of Scots, and testoons and other coins are from the reign of James VI of Scotland. The horn disintegrated, and while some of the coins were given to children and have not been traced, 20 coins were placed in the collection of the Royal Scottish Museum in Edinburgh, and 30 went to the McLean Museum in Greenock.
