Orton Bradley Park

Charteris Bay is a small settlement on Banks Peninsula in New Zealand. The settlement is located on the south eastern side of Te Wharau / Charteris Bay, a large inlet of Lyttelton Harbour / Whakaraupō. The settlement sit between Diamond Harbour to the east and Teddington to the west. The community is notable for Orton Bradley Park and as the location of a quarry which produced a decorative sandstone used in many early buildings of Christchurch.The community is spread out along the main road from Teddington to Diamond Harbour. It has a golf course adjacent to Orton Bradley park and a popular sailing club, which advertises itself as "home of the Optimist" – a reference to the Optimist sailing dinghy first sailed in New Zealand from Charteris Bay.At low tide some extensive mud flats support a wide range of wading birds including Royal spoonbills.

King Billy Island (Māori: Aua; officially Aua / King Billy Island) is a small island and Scenic Reserve in Lyttelton Harbour / Whakaraupō on Banks Peninsula, New Zealand.

Diamond Harbour is a small town on Banks Peninsula, in Canterbury, New Zealand. It is on the peninsula's northern coast, on the southern shores of Lyttelton Harbour, and is administratively part of the city of Christchurch.

Stoddart Cottage is located in Diamond Harbour, New Zealand. Built in time for the wedding of his owner, Mark Stoddart, in February 1862, it was the birthplace of artist Margaret Stoddart. Stoddart Cottage is the oldest building in Diamond Harbour. On 15 February 1990, the building was registered by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust (now Heritage New Zealand) as a category I heritage structure, with registration number 3088.

Teddington is a very small community on Banks Peninsula at the head of Lyttelton Harbour / Whakaraupō. It sits on the junction of the road to Gebbies Pass and the road from Purau to Christchurch. It dates back to the early settlers of Christchurch but is now reduced to a pub and a restored working blacksmith's forge.

Magazine Bay (Māori: Tāpoa) is a small bay in Lyttelton Harbour in the South Island of New Zealand. It is located to the west of the Naval Point reclamation, between the inner harbour of the Port of Lyttelton, and Corsair Bay. The bay takes its name from the 1874 powder magazine building located above the shoreline. The magazine is a Category 1 listed Historic Place. Prior to 1900 the bay was the location of a shipyard, and a shed and slipway for a torpedo boat. A gun emplacement was constructed in 1890 on the headland at Erskine Point above the magazine. Magazine Bay was proposed as the location for a small boat harbour on multiple occasions over the years from 1920 to the 1970s, but none of the proposals went ahead because of the high costs of establishing a conventional breakwater to provide protection from southerly gales. In 1979, the Harbour Board conducted tests on a floating breakwater made from car tyres, and in 1982 opened a boat marina protected by a 300-metre-long (980 ft) floating breakwater. The breakwater was wrecked in a severe southerly storm in October 2000, and more than 30 small boats were sunk. The Magazine Bay marina was eventually demolished in 2023 as part of a development project at Naval Point, to the east of the bay.

Lyttelton Harbour / Whakaraupō is a major inlet on the northwest side of Banks Peninsula, on the coast of Canterbury, New Zealand; the other major inlet is Akaroa Harbour, which enters from the southern side of the peninsula. Whakaraupō enters from the northern coast of the peninsula, heading in a predominantly westerly direction for approximately 15 km (9.3 mi) from its mouth to the aptly-named Head of the Bay near Teddington. The harbour sits in an eroded caldera of the ancient Banks Peninsula Volcano, the steep sides of which form the Port Hills on its northern shore.The harbour's main population centre is Lyttelton, which serves the main port to the nearby city of Christchurch, linked with Christchurch by the single-track Lyttelton rail tunnel (opened 1867), a two lane road tunnel (opened 1964) and two roads over the Port Hills. Diamond Harbour lies to the south and the Māori village of Rāpaki to the west. At the head of the harbour is the settlement of Governors Bay. The reserve of Otamahua / Quail Island is near the harbour head and Ripapa Island is just off its south shore at the entrance to Purau Bay.The harbour provides access to a busy commercial port at Lyttelton which today includes a petroleum storage facility and a modern container and cargo terminal.Hector's dolphins, a species endemic to New Zealand, and New Zealand fur seals live in the harbour.

Mount Herbert / Te Ahu Pātiki is, at 919 metres (3,015 ft), the highest peak on Banks Peninsula, New Zealand. It is south of Lyttelton Harbour with the township of Diamond Harbour at its northern foot. The peak is named after Sidney Herbert, a member of the Canterbury Association. The official name of the peak was amended to become a dual name by the Ngāi Tahu Claims Settlement Act 1998.In the 1860s, the mountain gave its name to a general electorate for some years. In the 1865 electoral redistribution, the Mount Herbert electorate was formed; it was first used in the 1866 election. In the 1870 electoral redistribution, the electorate was abolished.

Ripapa Island (Māori: Rīpapa), also known earlier as Ripa Island, located just off the shore of Lyttelton Harbour, has played many roles in the history of New Zealand. A Māori fortified pā there played a key role in an internal struggle for the South Island Ngāi Tahu tribe in the early 19th century. Between 1873 and 1885, the island hosted a quarantine station, which was also used as a temporary prison for members of the Parihaka Māori settlement in Taranaki. Fort Jervois was built in 1886 as part of system of defences against a feared Russian invasion. The fort was in military use until the end of World War I, and again during World War II. It is the most complete Russian-scare fort still existing in New Zealand.
