Diamond Harbour, New Zealand

Stoddart Cottage is located in Diamond Harbour, New Zealand. Built in time for the wedding of his owner, Mark Stoddart, in February 1862, it was the birthplace of artist Margaret Stoddart. Stoddart Cottage is the oldest building in Diamond Harbour. On 15 February 1990, the building was registered by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust (now Heritage New Zealand) as a category I heritage structure, with registration number 3088.

Lyttelton Harbour / Whakaraupō is a major inlet on the northwest side of Banks Peninsula, on the coast of Canterbury, New Zealand; the other major inlet is Akaroa Harbour, which enters from the southern side of the peninsula. Whakaraupō enters from the northern coast of the peninsula, heading in a predominantly westerly direction for approximately 15 km (9.3 mi) from its mouth to the aptly-named Head of the Bay near Teddington. The harbour sits in an eroded caldera of the ancient Banks Peninsula Volcano, the steep sides of which form the Port Hills on its northern shore.The harbour's main population centre is Lyttelton, which serves the main port to the nearby city of Christchurch, linked with Christchurch by the single-track Lyttelton rail tunnel (opened 1867), a two lane road tunnel (opened 1964) and two roads over the Port Hills. Diamond Harbour lies to the south and the Māori village of Rāpaki to the west. At the head of the harbour is the settlement of Governors Bay. The reserve of Otamahua / Quail Island is near the harbour head and Ripapa Island is just off its south shore at the entrance to Purau Bay.The harbour provides access to a busy commercial port at Lyttelton which today includes a petroleum storage facility and a modern container and cargo terminal.Hector's dolphins, a species endemic to New Zealand, and New Zealand fur seals live in the harbour.

The Lyttelton Timeball Station is a heritage-registered time ball station and prominent local landmark in Lyttelton, New Zealand. The original station was significantly damaged by a series of earthquakes and aftershocks in 2010 and 2011, and finally collapsed on 13 June 2011 after a magnitude 6.4 aftershock. The tower was subsequently reconstructed, reopening in November 2018.

Ripapa Island (Māori: Rīpapa), also known earlier as Ripa Island, located just off the shore of Lyttelton Harbour, has played many roles in the history of New Zealand. A Māori fortified pā there played a key role in an internal struggle for the South Island Ngāi Tahu tribe in the early 19th century. Between 1873 and 1885, the island hosted a quarantine station, which was also used as a temporary prison for members of the Parihaka Māori settlement in Taranaki. Fort Jervois was built in 1886 as part of system of defences against a feared Russian invasion. The fort was in military use until the end of World War I, and again during World War II. It is the most complete Russian-scare fort still existing in New Zealand.

Lyttelton railway station is the northern terminus of the Main South Line, a main trunk railway line from Lyttelton to Invercargill in the South Island of New Zealand. There have been three stations built at Lyttelton, with the most recent of these still being used for railway purposes. Both freight and passenger services have featured at Lyttelton since it opened in 1867. With the cessation of suburban passenger trains to Lyttelton in the 1970s, freight became the mainstay of railway business at Lyttelton and passenger traffic from Lyttelton now plays only a minor role. Tranz Scenic have run a limited tourist service from the station during the summer season in recent years, though patronage of the trains is limited to cruise ship passengers. Proposals have been made to reinstate a commuter rail service from Lyttelton, but that is not considered to be a realistic possibility for the foreseeable future. Rail operations at Lyttelton have included all three forms of motive power, with steam being dominant until the late 1960s, after which diesel began to take over, with electric power being used from 1929 to 1970. All trains at Lyttelton are now diesel-hauled. Public transport connections at Lyttelton include Metro bus routes 28 and 35 (for which the nearest bus stop is a short distance down Norwich Quay from the station), and the Diamond Harbour ferry, which departs from a jetty opposite the station. Until they were discontinued in 1976, the Steamer Express inter-island ferries connected with passenger trains at Lyttelton on wharf no. 2 (opposite the station). Other nearby amenities include Lyttelton Main School, a medical clinic, several hotels, and the Lyttelton central business district.

The Lodge of Unanimity No 3 is a historic Masonic lodge in Lyttelton, New Zealand. Freemasonry was a feature of life in Lyttelton as early as 1851, when a meeting was held to establish a lodge. The warrant for the Lodge of Unanimity arrived from England in 1853, making it the first in the South Island and only the third in New Zealand. It was initially lodge No. 879. The first meeting of the lodge happened on 26 May 1853 at the storeroom of Augustus Alport, who was the local auctioneer and a brother of the lodge. The first lodge building began construction in 1855 and opened in 1858; it was demolished in 1876. Prominent local doctor and magistrate William Donald was a founding member of the lodge, and later became Grandmaster of the Canterbury Region. The second lodge building was constructed on the same site in 1876. The design is a simple interpretation of the Gothic Revival movement, designed by Benjamin Mountfort, who was a lodge member and also designed the first lodge building. The building was extended with a timber refrectory in 1896, to a design by Mountfort's son Cyril. The building interior was ornately decorated in the style typical of Masonic lodges, including symbolic imagery. The wooden interior is made from kauri. The lodge building was listed as a Category II Historic Place by Heritage New Zealand in 1997. The lodge building was badly damaged during the 2011 Christchurch earthquakes.

Lyttelton Museum is a museum in Lyttelton, New Zealand. It was opened in 1969 and has been closed since the 2010 and 2011 Christchurch earthquakes occurred. The museum building was demolished in 2012, and the museum is planning on moving into a new building in the future.

The Lyttelton Arts Factory (also known as LAF) is a performing arts events venue in Lyttelton, Christchurch, in the South Island of New Zealand. The venue is a black box theatre located on the grounds of the Lyttelton Primary School and is a shared-use facility. It is the school hall during the day but a performing arts theatre and teaching venue outside of school hours.

Lyttelton Borough was the local authority for the town of Lyttelton in Canterbury, New Zealand between 1868 and 1989, when it became part of Banks Peninsula District.

Battery Point was the site of a coastal defence fort in the Canterbury Region, New Zealand. Located to the east of the Port of Lyttelton, the fort was constructed in 1885 in response to one of the 'Russian scares'. It was also used in the First World War as well as the Second World War. In the postwar period, it was used as a training site up until 1957. On private land, the area was designated as Battery Point Battery Historic Area by Heritage New Zealand in 2004.
