Mandarin (Jacksonville)

The Mandarin Store and Post Office, officially known as the Mandarin Museum and also known as the Walter Jones Store and Post Office Museum, is a historic site in Jacksonville, Florida, United States. It is located at 12471 Mandarin Road. On October 1, 2001, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. The general store was in operation from 1911 until 1964, and is operated as a museum by the Mandarin Museum & Historical Society. The museum features some of the store's original furnishings and period memorabilia, and is open twice a month.

Maple Leaf is a United States National Historic Landmark in Jacksonville, Florida, United States. Maple Leaf, a side paddlewheel steamship, was first launched as a freight and passenger vessel from the Marine Railway Yard in Kingston, Upper Canada in 1851. The 181-foot (55 m) sidewheel paddle steamer measured 24.7-foot (7.5 m) at the beam.

The Henry Holland Buckman Bridge carries I-295 West Beltway traffic over the St. Johns River in Jacksonville, Florida. It was named for Henry Holland Buckman, a prominent legislator and attorney who was instrumental in establishing the Florida state road system.

Winterbourne (also known as the John Ferguson House) is a historic home in Orange Park, Florida. It is located at 2104 Winterbourne West, Orange Park, Fl 32073 on the St. Johns River. On February 23, 1996, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.

Julington Creek is a stream in Duval County, Florida, near Jacksonville. Durbin Creek is a tributary. Julington Creek feeds into the St Johns River widening out into Old Bull Bay. Both are navigable by paddlecraft and has a marina on it.Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote about her visits to the creek while she was living in Mandarin, Florida, in Palmetto Leaves (1873).

The River Road Historic District is a U.S. historic district (designated as such on July 15, 1998) located in Orange Park, Florida. The district is at the junction of River Road and Stiles Avenue. It contains ten historic buildings.

Orange Park Normal & Industrial School was an integrated school in Orange Park, Florida, funded by a Presbyterian group. Florida's only integrated school, it was founded by the American Missionary Association (AMA). It closed in the wake of laws forbidding whites from teaching blacks. William N. Sheats, who headed Florida's school system pushed for the law. The school opened in October 1891 south of Jacksonville in Clay County along the St. Johns River. The campus included dormitories and workshops. Amos W. Farnham was the school's principal, followed by B.D. Rowlee. The school appealed and won against "Sheats' Law" (requiring segregation even at private institutions), but closed in 1913 after Sheats returned to office and was successful in having the legislature outlaw whites teaching black students. A historical marker is at the site of the school. The school site is home to Orange Park's town hall and police station.

The Orange Park Negro Elementary School (also known as the Teresa Miller School or Neighborhood Service Center) is a historic school in Orange Park, Florida. It is located at 440 McIntosh Avenue. On July 15, 1998, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.

The Joseph Green House was a historic two-story home in Orange Park, Florida. It was the oldest building of Orange Park's black community, located at 531 McIntosh Avenue. On July 15, 1998, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places, becoming the Register's only minority-owned property in Clay County at the time. The following year, it was demolished.Green was a black carpenter from Mississippi who settled in Orange Park around 1886 and built this home in 1893. He built in total 15 homes in the area, of which this was the last to remain. His daughter-in-law sold the home to St. James AME Church for $30,000 in 1994. The church then used it as a rental property, so it was not open for public tours.AME Churches in Florida, the parent church of the local congregation, sued a number of local congregants to gain ownership of the property. The parent church's bishop said the local church had promised to build a new sanctuary on that spot, so he agreed to drop the lawsuit on the condition that the home be demolished.

The Orange Park Elementary School is a historic school in Orange Park, Florida. It is located at 1401 Plainfield Avenue. On July 15, 1998, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Orange Park Elementary was established in 1927 and so it is the oldest school in Clay County.

Doctors Lake is a body of water located off the St. Johns River in Clay County, Florida. Despite its name, it is not a true lake, as it is actually an inlet, openly connected to the St. Johns. Because of the estuarine nature of the St. Johns, Doctors Lake is itself somewhat brackish.Many docks border the lake for recreational activity such as boating, fishing and waterskiing. To the south, the lake splits in half into two small creeks that flow from swampland.

The William Helffrich House is a historic house located at 1200 Plainfield Avenue in Orange Park, Florida. It is locally significant as a frame vernacular house with Gothic Revival influences, and for being one of Orange Park's largest 19th century houses.
