Speedway Terrace Historic District

On December 23, 1988, a tractor-trailer tanker truck hauling liquefied propane crashed on an exit ramp at the Interstate 40/Interstate 240 (I-40/I-240) interchange in downtown Memphis, Tennessee, US. The crash ruptured the tank; the leaking gas exploded, setting multiple vehicles and structures on fire. The explosion propelled the tank 125 yards (114 m) into a residential complex and started additional fires. The accident caused nine deaths and ten injuries. The interchange where the accident occurred was considered unsafe and poorly designed, and had been the site of several previous accidents; it was completely rebuilt in the 2000s.

Northside High School was a high school in northern Memphis, Tennessee that closed in 2016. It was operated by Shelby County Schools and was previously in Memphis City Schools. As of September 2019, Urban Renaissance Inc. wants to buy the building to provide space for community groups and small businesses as the meal preparation that had been done there by Shelby County would be moving to another location.This school was built in 1968 in the Memphis City Schools system and served almost 350 students and 200 teachers in its first school year.

The Delmar-Lema Historic District, in Memphis, Tennessee, is a historic district which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998. It included 18 contributing buildings on 1.9 acres (0.77 ha).It includes houses at 1044-1066 Delmar Avenue and at 1044-1060 and 1041-1061 Lemar Place, in Memphis.The houses are shotgun houses with either Queen Anne or Craftsman influences.

Memphis Technical High School, originally Memphis Vocational School, was a high school that served downtown Memphis, Tennessee from 1911 to 1987. The school building that exists today was constructed in 1927, and is operated by the Shelby County School System as the Northwest Preparatory Academy, serving children who are unable to function in a regular school environment.

The Abraham Lowenstein House is a historic house in Memphis, Tennessee. It was built in 1901 for Abraham Lowenstein, a Jewish Swiss immigrant who co-founded a department store in Memphis with his brothers. It belonged to the Beethoven Club from 1922 to 1946.The house was designed in the Queen Anne architectural style. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since January 5, 1984.

Humes Preparatory Academy Middle School, formerly the L. C. Humes High School, is a middle school located in Memphis, Tennessee. It has also been known as North Side High School and as L.C. Humes Junior High School. It was open as a high school from the 1930s through 1967 and later became a middle school in the Memphis City Schools district. In 2004, the school was listed on the National Register of Historic Places for "its significance in education to Memphis, Tennessee and its Collegiate Gothic design", the latter the work of noted architect George Awsumb.The school also has a connection to Elvis Presley, who graduated from the school in 1953. The school has numerous alumni from nearby Porter-Leath from its days as an orphanage and current foster care facility. In 2012, the school opened as a charter school run by Gestalt Community Schools. In 2017 it was announced that control of the school would be transferred to Frayser Community schools when Gestalt would exit after experiencing declining enrollment and funding.

The Porter-Leath House is a historic house in Memphis, Tennessee, USA. It has also been known as the Porter Leath Children's Center, which was originally chartered in 1850 as the Protestant Widows' and Orphans' Asylum. It was named after Dr David Tinsley Porter after he made a donation to the asylum in 1904. In 1951, it was renamed the Porter-Leath Home. Portions of the house were built in 1856, 1875, 1912, 1927 and 1929. The 1875 portion was designed by the architect E. C. Jones. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since May 8, 1979.

Le Bonheur Children's Hospital is a 255-bed, tertiary care children's hospital located in Downtown Memphis, Tennessee. Le Bonheur has more than 700 medical staff representing 40 pediatric specialties. Approximately 170 patients per day are admitted, mostly from Tennessee and nearby states but also from around the world, mainly due to its nationally recognized brain tumor program, affiliation with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and for being the home of the Children's Foundation Research Center. The hospital treats infants, children, teens, and young adults aged 0–21.Le Bonheur functions as the region's primary level 1 pediatric trauma center. The hospital cares for 14,000 patients every year, including about 81,000 visits to the emergency department a year and 8,800 surgeries per year. Le Bonheur also serves as a teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and offers training in general pediatrics and pediatric subspecialties.

The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) is a public medical school in Memphis, Tennessee. It includes the Colleges of Health Professions, Dentistry, Graduate Health Sciences, Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy. Since 1911, the University of Tennessee Health Science Center has educated nearly 57,000 health care professionals. As of 2010, U.S. News & World Report ranked the College of Pharmacy 17th among American pharmacy schools. Graduate medical education programs are located in Chattanooga, Knoxville, and Nashville; family medicine centers in Jackson, Knoxville, and Memphis; dentistry clinics in Bristol, Jackson, and Union City, as well as public and continuing education programs across the state. The Health Science Center is part of the statewide, multi-campus University of Tennessee system. The University of Tennessee Health Science Center also runs the Plough Center for Sterile Drug Delivery Systems, which celebrated its 53-year anniversary in 2016. The center educates on sterile product preparation, develops a basis for parenteral medications, and provides services to the pharmaceutical industry and individuals. Hands-on training in aseptic processing is also offered four times a year at the facility. Areas of emphasis are the university's research efforts, which receive nearly $100 million in yearly grants from the National Institutes of Health and private foundations. The Translational Science Research Building and the Cancer Research Building house collaborative research teams for the UTHSC campus. In its early years the school was segregated, and it desegregated in the early 1960s. The first black student, Alvin Crawford, graduated in 1964.

The University of Tennessee College of Medicine is one of six graduate schools of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) in downtown Memphis. The oldest public medical school in Tennessee, the UT College of Medicine is a LCME-accredited member of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) and awards graduates of the four-year program Doctor of Medicine (MD) degrees. The college's primary focus is to provide practicing health professionals for the state of Tennessee.
