Ropery Lane is a cricket ground in Chester-le-Street, England round the corner from The Riverside Ground. It is the home of the Chester-le-Street Cricket Club, who play in the North East Premier League. Prior to Durham County Cricket Club gaining first-class status in 1992, they played six Gillette Cup/Natwest Trophy matches at Ropery Lane, while Minor Counties North also used the ground for a Benson & Hedges Cup game. After Durham became a first-class county, Durham played four 1st XI matches there: one in the County Championship, one in the AXA Equity and Law League and two tour matches against Pakistan and South Africa. The ground has not hosted a 1st XI game since 1994. The ground has hosted three first-class matches and eight List A matches.

Chester-le-Street is a railway station on the East Coast Main Line, which runs between London King's Cross and Edinburgh Waverley. The station, situated 8 miles 24 chains (8.3 miles; 13 kilometres) south of Newcastle, serves the market town of Chester-le-Street in County Durham, England. It is owned by Network Rail and managed by Northern Trains.

Cade's Road is a postulated Roman Road in north-east England. It is named after John Cade of Durham, an 18th-century antiquarian who in 1785 proposed its existence and possible course from the Humber Estuary northwards to the River Tyne, a distance of about 100 miles (160 km). Although evidence exists for such a road on some parts of the proposed route, there is still some doubt regarding its exact course. The road's Roman name is unknown.

The site has been used for worship for over 1100 years; elements of the current building are over 950 years old. The oldest surviving translation of the Gospels into English was done here, by Aldred between 947 and 968, at a time when it served as the centre of Christianity from Lothian to Teesside.

Concangis was an auxiliary castra in the Roman province of Lower Britain (Britannia Inferior). Its ruins are located in Chester-le-Street, Durham, in England, and are now known as Chester-le-Street Roman Fort. Park View School is an academy and sixth form in Chester-le-Street, County Durham for students aged 11 to 18. Year 7 and 8 students spend the first two years at the North Lodge site two miles to the north of the Church Chare site. During 2012 to 2013, it underwent a £1 million refurbishment.

Chester Burn viaduct is a railway viaduct in Chester-le-Street, County Durham, England. It is an imposing structure, dominating the marketplace and north end of the town. It carries the East Coast Main Line, the main railway from Newcastle to London. Chester-le-Street station on that line is just south of the viaduct. It is a Grade II listed structure.

Chester-le-Street was a rural district in County Durham, England from 1894 to 1974. [1] It surrounded the urban district of Chester-le-Street. The district was split in 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972, with the bulk going to the new Chester-le-Street district. Part of the parishes of Birtley, Harraton and South Biddick went to the Metropolitan Borough of Sunderland, in Tyne and Wear, and Lamesley and the rest of Birtley parish went to the Metropolitan Borough of Gateshead.

Chester-le-Street (), also known as Chester, is a market town and civil parish in County Durham, England, around 5.7 miles (9.2 km) north of Durham. It is located on the River Wear, which runs out to sea at Sunderland to the east. The town holds markets Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.The town's history is ancient, records go back to a Roman-built fort called Concangis. The Roman fort is the "Chester" (from the Latin castra) of the town's name; the "Street" refers to the paved Roman road that ran north–south through the town, now the route called Front Street. The parish church of St Mary and St Cuthbert is where the body of Anglo-Saxon St Cuthbert remained for 112 years before being transferred to Durham Cathedral and site of the first Gospels translation into English, Aldred writing the Old English gloss between the lines of the Lindisfarne Gospels there.From 1894 until 2009, local government districts were governed from town. From 1894–1974, it had a rural district, which covered the town and outlying villages. In 1909 the inner rural district formed an urban district, which covered the town as it was at that time. By 1974 the town expanded out of the urban district, during that year's reforms the urban and rural districts as well as other areas formed a non-metropolitan district. It was abolished in 2009 reforms when the non-metropolitan county became a unitary authority.

The Cong Burn is a small river in County Durham, England. It has its origin in a number of streams, among them Wheatley Green Burn, that rise on the southern and eastern slopes of Wheatley Hill, north of the village of Burnhope, and other streams, principally Whiteside Burn, that have their source on the southern slopes of Wheatley Hill and the northern slopes of Taylor's Hill, just east of Burnhope. These streams come together in the vicinity of West Edmondsley to form the Cong Burn, which flows in a broadly easterly or northeasterly direction, around the northern flank of Waldridge Fell and the western edge of Chester-le-Street, before flowing through the town to join the River Wear immediately east of the town. In 1932, the lower reach of the burn, where it passes through the centre of Chester-le-Street, was channelled into a covered concrete culvert, which passes beneath the town's Market Place.

The Riverside Ground, known for sponsorship reasons as the Emirates Riverside until the end of 2021, is a cricket venue in Chester-le-Street, County Durham, England. It is home to Durham County Cricket Club, and has also hosted several international matches.
