The Bolsover School is a mixed secondary school located in Bolsover in the English county of Derbyshire.The previous buildings were closed in July 2010 and later demolished, replaced by a new-build nearby on the former football pitch. Ex-pupil Steven Blakeley attended an open day on 17 July 2010, where former pupils and staff could meet.The school was converted to academy status on 1 October 2012. It was previously a community school administered by Derbyshire County Council. The Bolsover School continues to coordinate with Derbyshire County Council for admissions. The Bolsover School maintains a number of links with partner school abroad including Highland Park High School in Texas, United States, Kong Jiang Middle School in Shanghai, China, Max-Planck-Gymnasium in Groß-Umstadt, Germany and Evangelisches Gymnasium in Berlin, Germany.In 2014 the school joined a consortium with Heritage High School, Shirebrook Academy and Springwell Community College to form 'Aspire Sixth Form', a sixth form provision that operated across all the school sites. Aspire Sixth Form closed in 2016 due to low pupil numbers.

Bolsover was an Urban District in Derbyshire, England from 1894 to 1974. It was created under the Local Government Act 1894. The district was abolished in 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972 and combined with Blackwell Rural District and Clowne Rural District to form the new Bolsover district.

Its population at the 2011 UK Census was 11,673.Bolsover, along with several nearby villages, is situated in the north-east of the county of Derbyshire. It is the main town in the District of Bolsover, which is an electoral constituency and part of Derbyshire. Bolsover is seeking city status in the Platinum Jubilee Civic Honours.

Old Bolsover Town Council is the parish council for the civil parish of Old Bolsover in Derbyshire, England. It has responsibility for local issues in the town of Bolsover, including setting an annual precept (local rate) to cover the council's operating costs and producing annual accounts for public scrutiny. The town council evaluates local planning applications and works with the local police, district council officers, and neighbourhood watch groups on matters of crime, security, and traffic. The town council's role also includes initiating projects for the maintenance and repair of parish facilities, as well as consulting with the district council on the maintenance, repair, and improvement of highways, drainage, footpaths, public transport, and street cleaning. Conservation matters (including trees and listed buildings) and environmental issues are also the responsibility of the council. Other local government functions are the responsibility of Bolsover District Council and Derbyshire County Council. The Town Council was formed in 1974 when the civil parish of Old Bolsover was created as a successor parish to the former Bolsover Urban District Council. The new parish council exercised its right to designate itself a town council.The Town Council has been meeting in the Town Hall on Cotton Street since 1976. The Town Hall has had a chequered history. Built as a Primitive Methodist Chapel, it later transferred to the Salvation Army and in 1911 first became council offices. In 1948 all council functions transferred to nearby Sherwood Lodge, now along with a 1990s extension home to Bolsover (district) Council. The Town Hall on Cotton Street then became the town's first Public Library, a branch of Derbyshire County Library. Following the erection of the new library nearby, it reverted to its council function as offices for Old Bolsover Town Council.

Over Woodhouse is a suburban area lying just North-West of Bolsover Towncentre, Derbyshire, just to the north of Bolsover Castle, on a hill facing it. The whole area is hemed-in by the A632, the B6419 to Shuttlewood, and two other roads which join together and lead to B6418 to Shuttlewood, lying just east of the former Bolsover Colliery. It consists primarily of one large Post-World War II housing estate. Though there are some older properties within it.

Bolsover Cundy House is a recently restored 17th century conduit house that was used to supply water to the nearby Bolsover Castle. It is located near Houfton Road in Bolsover. In the middle of the building is the brick water tank, which still collects water. It was built in the early 17th century and supplied water to the cistern house of Bolsover Castle until the 1920s. The roof is a solid stone vault to make it secure and impervious to decay, unlike timber.A scheme to restore the conduit house was carried out in 2002-03 as part of a joint initiative between English Heritage, Bolsover Civic Society, and the local town and district councils. The aims of the project were to preserve the building, remove a safety hazard, and to raise the profile of this historic structure.Bolsover Cundy House is in the care of English Heritage and managed by Bolsover Civic Society.

Bolsover Castle is in the town of Bolsover (grid reference SK471707), in the north-east of the English county of Derbyshire. Built in the early 17th century, the present castle lies on the earthworks and ruins of the 12th-century medieval castle; the first structure of the present castle was built between 1612 and 1617 by Sir Charles Cavendish. The site is now in the care of the English Heritage charity, as both a Grade I listed building and a Scheduled Ancient Monument.

The Honour of Peverel (also known as the Feudal Barony of the Peak) is a geographic area in the north of England comprising part of the historic feudal barony held by the Norman Peverel family. The honour was granted to William Peverel (c. 1050 – c. 1115) by William the Conqueror.The Honour is recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086, and consisted of substantial lands comprising 162 manors including: Bolsover Castle - which became the seat of the Peverel family Nottingham Castle Codnor Castle Pinxton Duston Peveril Castle in Castleton, Derbyshire Glapwell Eastwood, Nottinghamshire Langar HallWilliam Peverel's son, William Peverel the Younger, inherited the honour, but, accused of treason by King Henry II, forfeited it, and the king then passed it to Ranulph de Gernon, 2nd Earl of Chester, who died before he could take possession.

Bolsover (, and commonly ) is a constituency in Derbyshire, represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament by Mark Fletcher, a member of the Conservative Party. The constituency was created in 1950, and is centred on the town of Bolsover. Between 1970 and 2019, the constituency was represented by Labour's Dennis Skinner, who by 2019 was the oldest member of the House of Commons and the second longest-serving. At the constituency's inception it was one of the safest Labour seats in the country, but over the following half century Skinner's vote share dropped from 77% in 1970, still holding a high vote share of 65% in 2005, to only 36% in 2019, with the result that he lost the seat to the Conservatives by a margin of 11%.
