Battle of the Brig of Dee

The Bridge of Dee or Brig o Dee (Scottish Gaelic: Drochaid Dhè) is a road bridge over the River Dee in Aberdeen, Scotland. The term is also used for the surrounding area of the city. Dating from 1527, the bridge crosses at what was once the City of Aberdeen's southern boundary. The Bridge of Dee is approximately 32 feet (10 m) above typical water height and consists of seven nearly semicircular ribbed arches, built using granite and Elgin sandstone. Today the bridge carries the main A92 road into Aberdeen from the south. It was designated a Category A listed structure in 1967, and was also listed as a Scheduled monument until being de-scheduled on 16 February 2009.George Gordon, 6th Earl of Huntly with his Catholic supporters rebelled against James VI of Scotland and confronted the King at the Brig of Dee on 17 April 1589. There was no battle and Huntly surrendered a few day later. The bridge was the site of a battle in 1639 between the Royalists under Viscount Aboyne and the Covenanters who were led by the Marquess of Montrose and Earl Marischal. This was the only substantial action of the First Bishops' War, and it took place after the peace treaty had already been signed.

Kincorth is a suburb located to the south of Aberdeen, Scotland. The name is a corruption of the Scottish Gaelic "Ceann Coirthe", which probably refers to an old pillar or standing stone (coirthe). Kincorth is known as the garden estate of Aberdeen, and its plan originated in a competition launched in 1936 and won by Robert Gardner-Medwin, Denis Winston and Clifford Holliday. It also has the Kincorth hill nature reserve known locally as the Gramps (Grampian mountains)The area is served by local high school Lochside Academy.

The King George VI Bridge is a bridge over the River Dee in Aberdeen, Scotland. The foundation stone of the bridge was laid by the Lord Provost Edward W. Watt on 15 September 1938. It was officially opened by Queen Elizabeth in the presence of her husband King George VI on 10 December 1941. Today the bridge carries the Great Southern Road (B9077) into Aberdeen from the south.

Holburn West Church is a congregation of the Church of Scotland. It is located at the intersection Ashley Park Drive and the Great Western Road, in the west end of Aberdeen, Scotland. The church building was opened for worship in October 1894. The Sanctuary and entrance to the church was refurbished in 2004. The church has a choir that is under the patronage of The Duchess of Kent. The Organist and Choirmaster is James G.R. Campbell. The organ was built in 1922, by Abbott and Smith and overhauled in 1974 by N.P. Mander.

Mannofield is an affluent area of Aberdeen, Scotland. It is situated in the west end of the city and is accessible by travelling through the A93 Aberdeen–Perth road, the A90 Edinburgh to Fraserburgh road and the A96 (via the A90). Mannofield is also a short walking distance away from Aberdeen City Centre and has good road and bus links to the city and beyond. Much of Aberdeen's water is supplied by the water works/reservoir on St John's Terrace and the reservoir on Craigton Road.

The Ashvale is a chain of fish and chip restaurants and takeaways in the north-east of Scotland. The main restaurant, which opened in 1979, is on Great Western Road in Aberdeen. There are other restaurants and takeaways in Banchory, Portlethen, Brechin, Dundee, Elgin, Ellon and Inverurie. By the mid-1990s the restaurant complex in Aberdeen had 300 seats and was open 7 days a week. In 2004, the chain served about 30,000 customers each week, selling approximately 18,000 fillets of fish.Its successful strategy is to buy fish of the best quality but to sell it at the same price as the competition. Its margins are therefore lower but it makes up for this with high volume, staying open from noon to 1 am, seven days a week, and being fairly busy throughout.
