Press Herald Building

The Printers' Exchange Block is a historic commercial building located at 103–107 Exchange Street in the Old Port of Portland, Maine. The building, which was designed in 1866 by Charles Q. Clapp, was built the same year. It wraps around the block that stands at the intersections of Exchange, Federal and Market Streets. Its alternative addresses have been given as 174–178 Federal Street and 114–116 Market Street during its history.

The Central Fire Station is an historic fire station in Portland, Maine. Built between 1924 and 1925, it is home to the Portland Fire Department. In 2019, Greater Portland Landmarks listed it alongside Portland's other fire stations as "places in peril," though this designation was disputed by a city spokesperson. Adjacent to the building is The Fireman Statue, which was designed and created in 1898 from North Jay granite and located on the property in 1987. Nearby landmarks include Lincoln Park, Portland City Hall, the Press Herald Building, and the Edward T. Gignoux United States Courthouse.

Stanley Thomas Pullen Fountain is an historic public water fountain and horse trough in Portland, Maine. It is named for Stanley T. Pullen, a former president of the Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals. Pullen died in 1910; the fountain's installation date is not known. The fountain was designed by George Burnham, and is made from granite mined at Jay, Maine.In 2010, the fountain was renovated, and set into a protective curb to protect it from snow plowing equipment. This work was funded by the Portland Public Art Committee and the Margaret E. Burnham Charitable Trust; Margaret Burnham was the daughter of the fountain's designer, George Burnham.The fountain is located on Federal Street, between the Central Fire Station and the Edward T. Gignoux United States Courthouse.

The U.S. District Court for the District of Maine (in case citations, D. Me.) is the U.S. district court for the state of Maine. The District of Maine was one of the original thirteen district courts established by the Judiciary Act of 1789, even though Maine was not a separate state from Massachusetts until 1820. The court is headquartered at the Edward T. Gignoux United States Courthouse in Portland, Maine and has a second courthouse in Bangor, Maine. The U.S. attorney for the District of Maine represents the United States in criminal and civil litigation before the court. As of October 8, 2021 the U.S. attorney is Darcie N. McElwee.Appeals from the District of Maine are heard by the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit (except for patent claims and claims against the U.S. government under the Tucker Act, which are appealed to the Federal Circuit).

Portland City Hall is the center of city government in Portland, Maine. It is located at 389 Congress Street, and is set in a prominent rise, anchoring a cluster of civic buildings at the eastern end of Portland's downtown. The structure was built in 1909-12 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

The Kotzschmar Memorial Organ, usually referred to as the Kotzschmar Organ, is a pipe organ located at Merrill Auditorium in the City Hall of Portland, Maine, United States.

Merrill Auditorium is a 1,908-seat auditorium located in Portland, Maine, United States. Originally known as Portland City Hall Auditorium, it is located in the eastern section of Portland City Hall. The auditorium was built in 1912 and underwent a major rebuild and renovation in 1997. It features a large pipe organ, the Hermann Kotzschmar Memorial Organ, donated by Cyrus Curtis and built by the Austin Organ Company (Opus 323). It was renamed in the 1990s following a bequest which allowed the facility to be renovated.Prime tenants at Merrill are the Portland Symphony Orchestra, Portland Ovations and the Friends of the Kotzschmar Organ. Resident organizations include the Maine State Ballet, Portland Ballet and Opera Maine.

Lincoln Park is a 1.8-acre (0.73 ha) urban park in downtown Portland, Maine. Created in 1866, following that year’s Great Fire, which burned down most of the buildings of Portland, it was named in honor of former president Abraham Lincoln. It is bounded by Congress Street to the west, Pearl Street to the south, Federal Street to the east and Franklin Street to the north. The park was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

The First Baptist Church is a Baptist church congregation currently meeting at 360 Canco Road in Portland, Maine. It met for many years in a now-demolished 1867 church building on Congress Street, where the Top of the Old Port Parking Lot is now located. That building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, and was removed in 2015.

One City Center is an office building located in the Monument Square, Portland, Maine. It is considered an icon of the Maine financial market. The building serves as the northern New England offices for Bank of America, and a Bank of America logo is featured at the building's highest point. It consists of 13 floors and features a 5-story atrium with a full service food court inside the building. The building was opened in 1987.

The Maine Lobsterman is a sculpture in Lobsterman Park, Portland, Maine, United States. It was sculpted by Victor Kahill for the 1939 New York World's Fair and served as the centerpiece of the Maine exhibit in the Hall of States. Once it returned to Portland, it was displayed at the Columbia Hotel and the Portland City Hall before being placed at its present location on Temple Street in 1977. In 2021, the Portland Press Herald described it as one of the most iconic landmarks in the city. In July 2022, the animal rights non-profit People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals sent a letter to mayor Kate Snyder urging the city replace the sculpture with another sculpture showing a lobster crushing a trap.

The word Portland is derived from the Old English word Portlanda, which means "land surrounding a harbor". The Greater Portland area has emerged as an important center for the creative economy, which is also bringing gentrification.
