La Chaux-de-Fonds (French pronunciation: [laʃodəfɔ̃]; archaic German: Schalu) is a Swiss city in the canton of Neuchâtel. It is located in the Jura Mountains at an altitude of 992 metres, a few kilometres south of the French border. After Geneva, Lausanne, Bienne, and Fribourg, it is the fifth-largest city in the Romandie, the French-speaking part of the country, with a population (as of December 2020) of 36,915. The city was founded in 1656. Its growth and prosperity are mainly bound up with watchmaking. It is the most important centre of the watch-making industry in the area known as the Watch Valley. Partially destroyed by a fire in 1794, La Chaux-de-Fonds was rebuilt following a grid street plan, which was and is still unique among Swiss cities, the only exception being the easternmost section of the city, which was spared by the fire. It creates an exciting and obvious transition from the old section to the newer section. The roads in the original section are very narrow and winding and open to the grid pattern near the town square. The famous architect Le Corbusier, the writer Blaise Cendrars, and the carmaker Louis Chevrolet were born there. La Chaux-de-Fonds is a renowned centre of Art Nouveau. In 2009, La Chaux-de-Fonds and Le Locle, its sister city, were jointly awarded UNESCO World Heritage status for their exceptional universal value.

La Chaux-de-Fonds District was one of the six districts of the canton of Neuchâtel, Switzerland, until the district level was eliminated on 1 January 2018. The district capital was the town of La Chaux-de-Fonds. It had a population of 39,796.

La Chaux-de-Fonds railway station (French: Gare de La Chaux-de-Fonds) serves the municipality of La Chaux-de-Fonds, in the canton of Neuchâtel, Switzerland. Opened in 1857, the station is owned and operated by SBB-CFF-FFS. It forms the junction between three SBB-CFF-FFS standard gauge lines: from Morteau in France (via Le Locle-Col des Roches), from Neuchâtel and from Biel/Bienne. The station also offers interchange with two metre gauge lines: the Chemins de fer du Jura (CJ) line to Glovelier and the Transports publics Neuchâtelois line to Les Ponts-de-Martel.

The International Museum of Horology, French: Musée international d'horlogerie, is a horological museum in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. It is owned and operated by the city of La Chaux-de-Fonds.

Villa Schwob also Villa Turque is a house located in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland designed by noted architect Le Corbusier. It was commissioned in 1912 by the watchmaker Anatole Schwob, and completed in 1917. In 1986, this early masterpiece of Le Corbusier has been acquired by the group Ebel for its 75th anniversary to serve both as a reminder of its core values and as an inexhaustible source of inspiration for the brand.

Girard-Perregaux SA (French: [ʒiʁaʁ pɛʁəɡo]) is a luxury Swiss watch manufacture with its origins dating back to 1791. In 2022, then-owner French luxury group Kering sold its stake in Sowind Group SA, the parent company of Girard-Perregaux, via management buyout. Headquartered in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, the company opened the Girard-Perregaux Museum near its headquarters in Villa Marguerite in 1999. It is best known for the historic Tourbillon with three gold bridges, which was awarded a gold medal at the 1889 International Exposition in Paris soon after the launch of the watch. Other notable models from the company include the collection 1966, Vintage 1945, and models such as Tri-Axial Tourbillon and Laureato, an icon inspired from the 1970s.

Villa Fallet is a traditional chalet located in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland designed and built by the eighteen-year-old Charles-Édouard Jeanneret (1887–1965), who later became better known as Le Corbusier. Jeanneret was teaching himself architecture by going to the library to read about architecture and philosophy, by visiting museums, by sketching buildings, and by constructing them. In 1905, he and two other students, under the supervision of their teacher, René Chapallaz, designed and built his first house, the Villa Fallet, for the engraver Louis Fallet, a friend of another of his teachers, Charles l'Eplattenier. The house is in the Style Sapin, the Swiss variant of Art Nouveau. The chalet on the forested hillside near La Chaux-de-Fonds, is a large traditional chalet with a steep roof in the local alpine style, and is decorated with carefully crafted colored geometric patterns on the façade, with a design of triangular pine trees and pine cones. The success of this house led to his construction of two similar houses, the Villas Jacquemet and Stotzer, in the same area.It It was completed in 1905. It is now recognised as a building of cultural significance in Switzerland.

La Chaux-de-Fonds-Grenier railway station (French: Gare de La Chaux-de-Fonds-Grenier) is a railway station in the municipality of La Chaux-de-Fonds, in the Swiss canton of Neuchâtel. It is an intermediate stop and a request stop on the 1,000 mm (3 ft 3+3⁄8 in) La Chaux-de-Fonds–Les Ponts-de-Martel line of Transports publics Neuchâtelois.

The Villa Jeanneret-Perret (also known as Maison blanche) is the first independent project by Swiss architect Le Corbusier. Built in 1912 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Charles-Edouard Jeanneret's hometown, it was designed for his parents. Open to the public since 2005, the house is under the patronage of the Swiss National Commission for UNESCO and has been proposed by the Swiss Government for inscription on the World Heritage List.

It is an intermediate stop and a request stop on the 1,000 mm (3 ft 3+3⁄8 in) metre gauge La Chaux-de-Fonds–Glovelier line of the Chemins de fer du Jura.

La Chaux-de-Fonds Les Forges railway station (French: Gare de La Chaux-de-Fonds Les Forges) is a railway station in the municipality of La Chaux-de-Fonds, in the Swiss canton of Neuchâtel. It is an intermediate stop on the standard gauge Neuchâtel–Le Locle-Col-des-Roches line of Swiss Federal Railways.

Stade de la Charrière is a multi-purpose stadium in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home ground of FC La Chaux-de-Fonds. The stadium has 2,500 seats and 10,200 standing places.
