Granite is a census-designated place (CDP) in Salt Lake County, Utah, United States, adjoining the City of Sandy on the east. As of the 2000 census, the CDP population was 2,018, a decrease from the 1990 population of 3,300 largely due to annexations by Sandy. Salt Lake County has designated a Granite “Community Council” for purposes of planning and development. The Granite Community Council includes the area within the CDP as well as the rest of Little Cottonwood Canyon, extending to Snowbird and Alta. In 2009 there was an effort to make Granite a township that ultimately failed.

The Granite LDS Ward Chapel-Avard Fairbanks Studio is a historic building in Sandy, Utah. It was built in 1903-1905 as a meeting house for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and designed in the Romanesque Revival architectural style. It was acquired by sculptor Avard T. Fairbanks in 1966, and remodelled as his art studio. The building has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since December 30, 2005.

The Alvin and Annie Green House, at 8400 Danish Rd. in what is now Cottonwood Heights, Utah, was built sometime in the period 1905 to 1915. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.It is a one-and-one-half-story cross wing house, and has Victorian-eclectic detailing. Built by Alvin Green, it originally had five rooms: a living room, a kitchen and three bedrooms. Its exterior is rock-faced concrete blocks laid in running bond. Alvin Green was born in 1877 in Butler, Utah; Annie was born in 1878 of Danish parents; they married in 1900.It was located in the "Danish Town" area, in or near Sandy, Utah, in an area which was incorporated in 2005 as Cottonwood Heights, Utah. It was deemed significant "as the only house remaining in the Danish Town area that was constructed prior to 1937. It is also the only known house in Sandy constructed of rockfaced concrete block, a building material that was popular during the first few decades of the twentieth century. The house also is the only one south of Creek Road that is still owned by a descendant of the original settler of the Danish Town area, and was certainly the most substantial one from the era."There is a contributing structure which also was included in the listing. On June 6, 2017, in Sandy, Utah, Jeremy Patterson rammed his truck into a vehicle and opened fire on the riders, killing two and injuring two before killing himself. This was the result of an apparent domestic dispute between Patterson and his ex-girlfriend Memorez Rackley, who was killed in the attack. Rackley had contacted the police before the incident concerning threats from her ex-boyfriend, and she was ineligible to acquire a protective order because of the nature of their relationship. The Utah police departments involved in the case said they were reviewing their response procedures in cases of domestic violence, and the Utah State Legislature passed legislation meant to stop similar incidents from happening in Utah.

Little Cottonwood Creek Valley was a census-designated place (CDP) in Salt Lake County, Utah. The 2000 Census population was 7,221, an increase over the 1990 figure of 5,042. In 2005, the CDP became part of the newly incorporated city of Cottonwood Heights.

Reed Taylor Jeppson (born May 28, 1949, disappeared October 11, 1964) was an American teenager who disappeared along with his two dogs as he walked them on the afternoon of October 11, 1964. Despite an extensive search and media coverage (including renewed attention in the early 2010s), neither Jeppson nor either dog have been located.

Granite Mountain is a mass of solid rock one mile up Little Cottonwood Canyon in the Wasatch Range of Utah, not too far from Salt Lake City, Utah. Despite its name, Granite Mountain is primarily composed of quartz monzonite, an igneous rock similar to granite in appearance, physical characteristics, and chemical composition. This is the same material used to construct the Salt Lake Temple and the facade of the LDS Conference Center.

The Alta View Hospital hostage incident began September 20, 1991, when Richard Worthington, armed with a shotgun, a .357 Magnum revolver, and sticks of dynamite arrived at Alta View Hospital in Sandy, Utah, in an attempt to kill Dr. Glade Curtis, who had performed a tubal ligation requested by his wife, Karen Worthington.Worthington entered the Hospital's Women's Center and took as hostages two nurses, a patient giving birth, her sister, the father, and two newborn babies. Curtis saw what was happening and hid in his office, where he called the police. After Worthington took nurses Susan Woolley and Karla Roth to the parking lot, the police told him to freeze and Roth attempted to wrestle Worthington's shotgun from his hands and was fatally shot.Worthington held the hostages for eighteen hours. He was talked into surrendering and releasing the remaining hostages by Sergeant Don Bell and Detective Jill Candland of the Salt Lake City police department. Worthington was sentenced to thirty-five years in prison for the murder of Roth, and later committed suicide in his prison cell on November 11, 1993.The incident was portrayed in the 1992 TV movie Deliver Them From Evil: The Taking of Alta View, starring Harry Hamlin as Worthington, Teri Garr as Woolley and Terry O'Quinn as Bell.

Alta View Hospital is an Intermountain Healthcare member hospital located in Sandy, Utah, United States. In 2019, the hospital completed a renovation that resulted in a new emergency department, new inpatient physical therapy space and a rooftop helipad.

Cottonwood Heights is a city located in Salt Lake County, Utah, United States, along the east bench of the Salt Lake Valley. It lies south of the cities of Holladay and Murray, east of Midvale, and north of Sandy within the Salt Lake City, Utah Metropolitan Statistical Area. Following a successful incorporation referendum in May 2004, the city was incorporated on January 14, 2005. Cottonwood Heights had been a Census-designated place (CDP) before incorporation. The population as of the 2010 census was 33,433. This is a significant increase over the CDP's 2000 census count of 27,569. The corporate offices of Dyno Nobel, Fusion-io, Extra Space Storage, Breeze Airways, and JetBlue are located in the city.In 2007, Money magazine rated Cottonwood Heights at #100 on their Best Places to Live list.

The Granite Hydroelectric Power Station was built in 1896–1897 at the mouth of Big Cottonwood Canyon, about 6 miles (9.7 km) southeast of Salt Lake City, Utah, United States(in what is now eastern Cottonwood Heights. The plant comprises the powerhouse, transformer house, a wooden conduit, penstocks, and a small dam. Like the Stairs Station upstream, it represents an intact high-head generating plant from the late 19th century.
