Alta View Hospital

The Alta View Hospital hostage incident began September 20, 1991, when Richard Worthington, armed with a shotgun, a .357 Magnum revolver, and sticks of dynamite arrived at Alta View Hospital in Sandy, Utah, in an attempt to kill Dr. Glade Curtis, who had performed a tubal ligation requested by his wife, Karen Worthington.Worthington entered the Hospital's Women's Center and took as hostages two nurses, a patient giving birth, her sister, the father, and two newborn babies. Curtis saw what was happening and hid in his office, where he called the police. After Worthington took nurses Susan Woolley and Karla Roth to the parking lot, the police told him to freeze and Roth attempted to wrestle Worthington's shotgun from his hands and was fatally shot.Worthington held the hostages for eighteen hours. He was talked into surrendering and releasing the remaining hostages by Sergeant Don Bell and Detective Jill Candland of the Salt Lake City police department. Worthington was sentenced to thirty-five years in prison for the murder of Roth, and later committed suicide in his prison cell on November 11, 1993.The incident was portrayed in the 1992 TV movie Deliver Them From Evil: The Taking of Alta View, starring Harry Hamlin as Worthington, Teri Garr as Woolley and Terry O'Quinn as Bell.

Sandy is a city in the Salt Lake City metropolitan area, located in Salt Lake County, Utah, United States. The population of Sandy was 87,461 at the 2010 census, making it the sixth-largest city in Utah. The population is currently estimated to be about 96,380 according to the July 1, 2019 United States Census estimates.Sandy is home to the Shops at South Town shopping mall; the Jordan Commons entertainment, office and dining complex; and the Mountain America Exposition Center. It is also the location of the soccer-specific Rio Tinto Stadium, which hosts Real Salt Lake and Utah Royals FC home games, and opened on October 8, 2008. White City is a metro township in Salt Lake County, Utah, United States. The township is an enclave of the City of Sandy. The population was 5,407 at the 2010 census, a modest decrease from the 2000 population of 5,988.

Beehive Science and Technology Academy (BSTA), is a college preparatory charter school located in Sandy, Utah. Open to all students grades 6-12, Beehive’s focus is math, science and technology. Beehive supports creative development through their art programs.

The Brady-Brady House, at 8395 South 1000 East in Sandy, Utah, was built in 1930. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004. The listing included two contributing buildings.Why "Brady-Brady House" or "Brady/Brady House", rather than just "Brady House"???? It is a Tudor Revival-style house. It is 26 by 40 feet (7.9 m × 12.2 m) in plan, and has aprojecting cross-gabled bay which is 14 feet (4.3 m) wide and 8 feet (2.4 m) deep.

The Emma Olive Dobbs House, at 578 E. Locust St. in Sandy, Utah, was built in the years around 1905–10. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.It is a one-and-one-half-story Victorian style central-block-with-projecting-bays house. It has a front porch with Tuscan columns.It was deemed significant as one of "the best preserved examples of the central-block-with-projecting-bays constructed during the same time period in Sandy". It was noted that it "is also expressive of the level of craftsmanship attained locally on the construction of such structures, including the use of native materials, such as the granite employed on the foundation."

The Loveland Living Planet Aquarium' is located in Draper, Utah, United States. It currently houses 4,500 animals representing 550 species. The public aquarium currently consists of five main exhibits.

The Jordan School District Administration Building, at 9361 S. 400 East in Sandy, Utah, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.It was built in PWA Moderne style in 1935 as part of a Public Works Administration project.It appears that the building no longer exists.

Alta High School is a secondary school in Sandy, Utah, United States which services students from the cities of Sandy and Draper. Founded in 1978, it is part of the Canyons School District.

The Joseph F. and Isabelle Jensen House, at 428 East 8800 South in Sandy, Utah, was built around 1902. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998, and it is also included in the National Register-listed Sandy Historic District It is a one-story brick Victorian cottage with Queen Anne-style detailing.Its bricks are laid in stretcher bond.It is located on the northeast corner of the intersection of S. 420 E. with E. 8800 S. There is a white picket fence outlining the property on its two street-facing sides.

The Allsop-Jensen House, at 8829 S. 400 East St. in Sandy, Utah, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.The property includes a house and a barn, both deemed to be contributing buildings. The house was built in c.1874, c.1892, and c.1900. About the barn:The Allsop/Jensen Barn has been identified as the Watterson Barn, according to John Ralph Ferrin, MA Thesis, 1981. The barn is hewn log and wood frame construction. Ferrin indicates the barn was built in 1874 in Draper, from wood cut in Bell's canyon; later the barn was dismantled and moved to its present site in 1880. Ferrin notes several metal rings at the bottom logs, and states that they were used when the barn was dismantled and moved. Mr. Watterson, however, has stated that Evan Jensen (youngest son of James Jensen) indicated that the barn was dragged to its present site by team (with only the roof removed). Does the barn still exist? Or could it have been moved and saved elsewhere? It appears to be gone.

The Sandy Second Ward Chapel (formerly known as the Berean Baptist Church and the Anchor Baptist Church) is a location in Sandy, Utah listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was designed by the architect Don Carlos Young, a son of Brigham Young. It was later sold by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.It is built of dark maroon brick on a concrete foundation. A parapet mostly hides the building's low roof. It has four Tuscan columns made of granite-like cast aggregate at its front entrance.
