The Avening Valley is located in the South Cotswolds in England, running roughly east from Nailsworth and through the village of Avening.During the 17th century the cloth industry developed in the Avening Valley, with mills powered by the Avening Stream. One of the larger cloth mills was named the Holcombe Mill (an old "gig" mill), which was adapted in 1879 for manufacture of bedding. Another is at Longfords Mills, Minchinhampton.

Avening is a village and civil parish in the Cotswold district of Gloucestershire, England, about three miles (5 km) north of Tetbury. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 1,094, decreasing to 1,031 at the 2011 census. Nearby is Gatcombe Park, the home of the Princess Royal.

Gatcombe Park is the country residence of Anne, Princess Royal, between the villages of Minchinhampton (to which it belongs) and Avening in Gloucestershire, England. Built in the late 18th century to the designs of George Basevi, it is a Grade II* listed building. It is a royal residence as it is home to the Princess Royal, and is privately owned. Parts of the grounds open for events, including horse trials and craft fairs.

The Longstone of Minchinhampton (grid reference ST884998) is a standing stone on Minchinhampton Common, Minchinhampton in Gloucestershire, England. The stone is clearly visible in a field accessible via the southeast road out of the village. The stone is 7.5 feet (2.3 m) high, made of limestone and has natural holes in it. Tradition suggests that passing infants through one of the holes will cure them of illnesses such as measles or whooping cough.

Box Farm Meadows (Stuart Fawkes reserve) (grid reference ST865997) is a 8.3-hectare (21-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Gloucestershire, notified in 1985. This was formerly known as Balls Green Pastures. The reserve is situated at the southern edge of Box village and one mile east of Nailsworth. The site is owned and managed by the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust. It was purchased in 1978 and named in the memory of Mr F S Fawkes, a local naturalist and a founder member and former Vice-President of the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust (formerly the Gloucestershire Trust for Nature Conservation). Grant aid was received for its purchase from the World-wide Fund for Nature (WWF), Nature Conservancy Council (NCC), the Langtree Trust and the Dulverton Trust.

Tetbury Upton is a small village and civil parish in the Cotswolds area of Gloucestershire, England. The parish extends in an arc around the north, west and south of the town of Tetbury, and includes the village of Tetbury Upton on the B4014 road 1.5 miles (2 km) north of the town and the village of Doughton on the A433 road 1.2 miles (1.9 km) southwest of the town. Upton and Doughton were historically tythings in the ancient parish of Tetbury, and the area became a separate civil parish in 1894. By 1901 Tetbury Upton's total population reached 905, but by 2011 the population had declined to 309.Upton House is a Neoclassical country house built in 1752, whose design is usually attributed to William Halfpenny, of Bristol. The parish also includes Highgrove House near Doughton. Despite its small size the parish is the most populous in 'Grumbolds Ash' electoral ward. This ward starts in the south west at Didmarton passes Tetbury Upton, and ends in the north west at Kingscote. The total ward population taken at the 2011 census was 1,887.

Minchinhampton is an ancient Cotswolds market town in the Stroud District in Gloucestershire, South West England. The town is located on a hilltop, 4 miles (6.4 km) south-east of Stroud. The common offers wide views over the Severn Estuary into Wales and further into the Cotswolds.

Chavenage House, Beverston, Gloucestershire is a country house dating from the late 16th century. The house was built in 1576 and is constructed of Cotswold stone, with a Cotswold stone tiled roof. David Verey and Alan Brooks, in their Gloucestershire Pevsner, describe the house as "the ideal sixteenth-century Cotswold stone manor house". Chavenage is a Grade I listed building.

Minchinhampton Priory was a priory in Gloucestershire, England. After the Norman Conquest the manor of Minchinhampton was granted to the Benedictine nuns of Caen Abbey and later to Syon Abbey. John Leland says that there may have been a site for nuns but other authors dispute this.

Veizey's Quarry (grid reference ST881944) is a 1.4 hectare geological Site of Special Scientific Interest near Tetbury in Gloucestershire, notified in 1974. It is in the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The site is listed in the 'Cotswold District' Local Plan 2001-2011 (on line) as a Key Wildlife Site (KWS) and a Regionally Important Geological Site (RIGS).

Brimscombe was opened on 1 June 1845 on what is now the Golden Valley Line between Kemble and Stroud in Gloucestershire. This line was opened in 1845 as the Cheltenham and Great Western Union Railway from Swindon to Gloucester, and this station opened 3 weeks after the general opening of the line, originally as "Brimscomb". The station was renamed as "Brimscomb near Chalford" in June 1865 and finally to Brimscombe on 2 August 1897. The main building was on the up side (towards Kemble) and consisted of a Brunel style chalet building with a large canopy and a bay window. On the down platform, a large waiting shelter with canopy was provided and a covered footbridge was provided in 1898 following the death of a young woman crossing the line. A large stone good shed with timber ends was provided along with several sidings at the west end of the station on up side. Originally, a small signal box stood at the west end of the down platform, but this was replaced with a new west box in July 1896 and an east box on the up platform in 1898, following the increase in freight traffic. At the eastern end of up platform, a small engine shed with an integral water tower over the entrance was built. This was used by banking engines based at Brimscombe that assisted freight trains up the 1 in 75 Sapperton Bank beyond Chalford. The 1934 GWR locomotive allocation lists 2-6-2T 31xx class no.3171 as based at Brimscombe and in the 1960s this would have been a 2-6-2T of the 51xx or 61xx classes. Closure of the station came on 2 November 1964 following the withdrawal of local stopping passenger services on the line. Goods traffic had ceased the previous year on 12 August 1963. Almost all traces of the station have gone and it appears that the adjacent A419 road has been realigned through the eastern side of the station.
