McFarland School District (MMSD) is a public school district headquartered in McFarland, Wisconsin. It serves the Village of McFarland, City of Madison, the towns of Dunn, Cottage Grove, and Pleasant Springs.

McFarland High School is a high school located in McFarland, in Dane County, Wisconsin. It is administered by the McFarland School District. The school's colors are Columbia blue, navy blue, and white and the mascot is the Spartan.

Wisconsin Virtual Academy (WIVA) is a virtual school administered as a charter school by the McFarland School District in McFarland, Wisconsin. The school is operated by the for-profit K12 Inc. corporation of Virginia.

The McFarland House is a large Greek Revival-styled house built in 1857 in McFarland, Wisconsin by a founder and the namesake of the community. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988 and on the State Register of Historic Places the following year.

WTSO (1070 kHz, "1070 The Game") is a commercial AM radio station in Madison, Wisconsin. The station is owned and operated by iHeartMedia, Inc., and airs a sports format. From 2014 until February 1, 2020, WTSO was simulcast on FM translator W265CV at 100.9 MHz. W265CV now airs a 1960s-1970s oldies format as "U-100.9".WTSO's offices and studios are on South Fish Hatchery Road in Fitchburg (but using Madison as its mailing address). The transmitter is off East Tower Road in McFarland. WTSO operates at 10,000 watts by day. But at night it reduces its power to 5,000 watts, using a directional antenna, because AM 1070 is a clear-channel frequency. WTSO must protect Class A stations KNX Los Angeles and CBA Moncton, New Brunswick, from interference, so the nighttime signal is nulled away from the west and the east. (CBA switched to the FM dial in 2008 but WTSO still must protect the Canadian AM station's former coverage area.) WTSO's former FM translator operates with 250 watts from a 243-meter (798 foot) tower off South Pleasant View Road in Madison.

The lake has a surface area of 2,074 acres (8.39 km2) and a max depth of 38 ft (12 m).In 2013, the Wisconsin state record Yellow bass was caught in Lake Waubesa. It was 16.1 inches (41 cm) long and weighed 2 pounds 12 ounces (1.2 kg).

The Madison Curling Club (MCC) is a curling club located in McFarland, Wisconsin, United States. MCC was the third-largest curling club in the United States with 570 members as of February 2014. The club had 590 members for the 2019-2020 season.

The Waubesa School is a historic school building at 5979 Siggelkow Road in McFarland, Wisconsin. Built in 1920 by contractor Louis A. Harrison, the school is a relatively late example of a one-room schoolhouse. The one-story brick building has an American Craftsman design with a projecting entrance topped by a bell tower, large sash windows, and a gable roof with exposed rafters. Like most one-room schoolhouses built after 1910, the Waubesa School is much larger than its nineteenth-century counterparts, and it included amenities such as electric wiring, a furnace, and a small library; its plans also included indoor plumbing, but this was rejected by voters due to its cost. Many of these features were likely a response to Wisconsin's state graded school initiative; though one-room schools were ineligible to be state-graded, the school met many of the other certification requirements. The school operated until 1954, when the school board voted to consolidate with the McFarland School District; McFarland used the building as a kindergarten until 1961 and sold it to private owners the following year.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 17, 1997.

Capital Springs State Recreation Area is a state park unit of Wisconsin, United States, in development just south of Madison. The total area of the park is 3,000 acres (1,200 ha), with 326 acres (132 ha) designated as a state park. The park was authorized in 2000, the centennial of the Wisconsin state park system. The park includes 3,700 feet (1,100 m) of undeveloped shoreline on Lake Waubesa. The recreation area incorporates existing Dane County parks, and the site will be jointly managed by the state and the county. The property includes Native American archaeological sites that were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978 as Lake Farms Archaeological District. In this area near Lake Waubesa, Early Woodland people lived seasonally, leaving behind remains of fish, mammals, waterfowl, nuts, and pottery fragments.

The Synchrotron Radiation Center (SRC), located in Stoughton, Wisconsin and operated by the University of Wisconsin–Madison, was a national synchrotron light source research facility, operating the Aladdin storage ring. From 1968 to 1987 SRC was the home of Tantalus, the first storage ring dedicated to the production of synchrotron radiation.
