Kuopio City Hall is a town hall in center of the Kuopio, Finland, near the Kuopio Market Square. It was designed by Finnish architects F. A. Sjöström and Josef Stenbäck, and was completed in 1886. Stylistically, the city hall is of the Neo-Renaissance of the second half of the 19th century. The current exterior coloring of the house dates back to 1974. In the most beautiful municipal buildings poll, in 2009 Kuopio City Hall was chosen among the three most beautiful municipal buildings. When completed, it sovereignly controlled the northern edge of the market square, the area around the square was still completely wooden at that time. Spatial changes were common in the first decades of the house. The first floor of the house had a restaurant and a public library.

ANTI – Contemporary Art Festival presents site-specific contemporary art covering all artistic forms from sculpture and environmental art to dance, live art and performance. The annual festival is held in Kuopio, Finland. The first ANTI Festival was organized in 2002 by The Arts Council of Northern Savonia. The ANTI – Contemporary Art Festival Association was established in 2005 to coordinate the festival. With an emphasis on performance, ANTI has become Finland's leading presenter of live art, showcasing innovative developments in sonic and visual arts. The festival features site-specific and time-based works that are presented in various public spaces such as streets, office buildings, parks, shopping centers, and privately owned sites. The choice of locations depends on the festival's theme and the nature of the artworks. The festival program includes artworks created by invited artists as well as artists selected through an open proposal process. The name "ANTI" means "gift" in Finnish, reflecting the festival's mission to make art accessible to all. The artworks presented at ANTI Festival are free of charge, allowing people who may not typically engage with art to become accidental participants and viewers. The unsuspecting audiences, those who come across the art by chance, often experience the disruptive potential of the works most profoundly.In 2007, Artistic Director Erkki Soininen was replaced by Gregg Whelan, who was appointed as Co-Artistic Director of ANTI. Whelan also works as a performance-maker, writer and co-artistic director of Lone Twin and Lone Twin Theatre.In 2013, ANTI – Contemporary Art Festival launched the ANTI Festival International Prize for Live Art, an international art award with a prize of 30,000 euros. The Live Art Prize has been awarded since 2014, recognizing outstanding contributions to the field of live art.

Maljalahti (Finnish pronunciation: [ˈmɑljɑˌlɑhti]; literally translated "crater bay") is a district in the central part of the city of Kuopio, Finland. The northern boundary of the district is the Savonia railway (with the exception that the Kuopio bus station north of the line belongs to the area), the Hatsalankatu street in the west, Suokatu in the south and Lake Kallavesi in the east. Neighboring parts of Maljalahti are Puijo and Linnanpelto in the north, Itkonniemi in the east, Vahtivuori and Multimäki in the south and Hatsala in the west.The Kuopio Railway Station, the Kuopio Prison and the Hapelähteenpuisto park, among others, are located in the Maljalahti district. Before the winter, there was an ice rink in the park. There is also a park in the Maljalahti district named after the author Minna Canth.Construction of a new residential area has begun near Maljalahti, just outside the grid area. New houses will be built next to the Savonia railway and in the area where there used to be a winter storage area for boats.

Kuopio ( KUO-pi-ou, Finnish: [ˈkuo̯pio] ) is a Finnish city and municipality located in the region of Northern Savonia. It has a population of 124,011, which makes it the 8th most populous municipality in Finland. Along with Joensuu, Kuopio is one of the major urban, economic, and cultural hubs of Eastern Finland. At the end of 2018, its urban area had a population of 89,307.Kuopio has a total area of 4,326.35 square kilometres (1,670.41 sq mi), of which 719.85 km2 (277.94 sq mi) is water and half is forest. Though the city's population is spread out 38/km2 (98/sq mi), the city's urban areas are populated comparably densely (urban area: 1,618 /km²), making Kuopio Finland's second-most densely populated city. Kuopio is known nationwide as one of the most important study cities and centers of attraction and growth. The city's history has been characterized by several municipality mergers since 1969, as a result of which Kuopio now includes much countryside; Kuopio's population surpassed 100,000 when the town of Nilsiä joined the city at the beginning of 2013. When Maaninka joined Kuopio at the beginning of 2015, Kuopio became Finland's largest milk producing community and Finland's second largest beef producing community. In addition, at the end of the 2010s, Kuopio was noted for numerous large projects, which are the largest nationwide after the Helsinki's metropolitan area. With the large tourist center in Tahkovuori, Kuopio has also grown into a major tourist city. Kuopio Airport, located in the Siilinjärvi municipality, is Finland's fifth-busiest airport, with over 235,000 passengers in 2017.According to Kuntarating 2017 survey, Kuopio has the most satisfied residents among the 20 largest cities, and according to the 2018 survey, Kuopio is the best city for real estate investors. In the Kuntien imago 2018 survey, Kuopio ranks second among large cities of Finland after Seinäjoki of South Ostrobothnia. In T-media's attraction and influence of the ten biggest cities study in 2021, 2022 and 2023, Kuopio is the second most attractive city in Finland, with Tampere holding the first place.Kuopio was the European Region of Gastronomy in 2020. It is also known as home of Kalakukko, a traditional food of Savonia, which is why Kuopio is also known by the nickname the "Promised Land of Kalakukko".

The University of Eastern Finland (Finnish: Itä-Suomen yliopisto) is a university in Finland founded in 2010 with campuses in Joensuu and Kuopio.

The Kuopio Province (Finnish: Kuopion lääni, Swedish: Kuopio län, Russian: Куопиоская губерния) was a province of Finland from 1831 to 1997. The province was named after its capital, city of Kuopio.

Kuopio Market Square (Finnish: Kuopion kauppatori) is the market square in the Multimäki district in Kuopio, North Savonia, Finland. The market is located about one hundred meters above sea level and the size of the area is 130×174 meters. The cover is made of dice and nubile stone. In the east–west direction, the area is crossed by flat walkways. As a surface, the market is slightly sloping, which poses challenges for use. The structure rests on a 10–15 m deep sand mattress, under which there is a ridge formation starting from Väinölänniemi, which runs under the church towards Puijo. Tulliportinkatu runs along the edges of the square in the north, Puijonkatu in the east, Kauppakatu in the south and Haapaniemenkatu in the west. The locals use the nickname Mualiman napa in the square, which more freely translates to mean "the centre of the universe".

Kauppakatu (lit. "market street") is a street in the center of Kuopio in North Savonia, Finland. The length of the street is about 1,500 meters. The street starts from Makasiinikatu from Kuopio Harbor and ends at Sairaalakatu. The street runs along the southern edge of Kuopio Market Square. Kauppakatu intersects with 19 streets and has ten traffic light-controlled intersections along it. After the completion of the underground project, Kauppakatu will become a pedestrian street at the market square, between Vuorikatu and Ajurinkatu.Most of the restaurants in the center of Kuopio are also located along Kauppakatu or in its immediate vicinity.

Multimäki is a central district in the heart of Kuopio, Finland. Many of Kuopio's most significant attractions, including the Kuopio's Market Square and Market Hall, Heroes' Park (also known as Hatsala Cemetery) and the Kuopio City Hall, are located in the district. Kuopio Lyceum High School and two kindergartens also operate in the district. Multimäki borders district of Maljalahti in the north, Vahtivuori in the east, Kuopionlahti in the south, and Hatsala in the west. The boundaries of the district are street Minna Canthin katu (named after Minna Canth) in the south, Vuorikatu in the east, Suokatu in the north and Puistokatu in the west.The name Multimäki is not very commonly used, but this district name appears mainly in zoning. It is common to talk about the city center, which in addition to Multimäki includes the Väinölänniemi, Vahtivuori, Hatsala, Maljalahti and Kuopionlahti districts.

Kuopio Market Hall is an Art Nouveau-style market hall on Kuopio Market Square in the Multimäki district in Kuopio, Finland. The market hall has a sales point for 30 companies. It is open all year round six days a week. The building was designed by Johan Victor Strömberg and the market hall began operations in August 1902. The hall was expanded in 1914 with a meat inspection center designed by Arne Sirelius, which now functions as a fish market. Later, the appearance of the hall has been improved and interior renovations have been made. The demolition of the market hall was last seriously discussed in the 1960s. However, it was decided to renovate the market hall in the early 1970s. The current coloring of the building dates from this period. The Market Hall project had been planned since the 1870s. The purity requirements for food sales had risen, and thus the need to build a permanent Point of Sale on the market also came to Kuopio. At the same time, the construction of a bazaar building was also planned for the square, but it was never carried out; also the market hall planned for the harbor square at the same time was never realized either.

Kuopio Lyceum High School is an upper secondary school (lukio) for students aged 15–19. Kuopion Lyseon lukio is located in Kuopio, Finland. Originally established as a boys' school in 1872, Kuopion Lyseo opened its doors to both sexes in 1977. The origins of Kuopion Lyseo can be traced further back to Viipurin Triviaalikoulu that was established in 1534 and relocated to Kuopio in 1777. Kuopion Lyseon lukio is one of the most academically prestigious upper secondary schools in Finland. It is the fifth highest scoring school in the Finnish Matriculation Examination and its International Baccalaureate class has consistently had one of the highest average final examination scores in Europe. Around 450 students are currently enrolled in the school. Kuopion Lyseon lukio has been an IB World School since 1994 and as such administers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. The school building from 1826 is designed by Carl Ludvig Engel.

Kuopio Cathedral (Finnish: Kuopion tuomiokirkko, Swedish: Kuopio domkyrka) is a stone Neoclassical-style Evangelical Lutheran church in Kuopio, Finland, and the seat of the Diocese of Kuopio. The cathedral was built between 1806 and 1815. There is a bust of Johan Vilhelm Snellman in the square in front of the cathedral.According to George Renwick, during the Finnish War, it was briefly used as a stable by the invaders.
