Octoraro Creek is a 22.1-mile-long (35.6 km) tributary of the Susquehanna River, joining it 9 miles (14 km) above the Susquehanna's mouth at Chesapeake Bay. The Octoraro rises as an East and West Branch in Pennsylvania. The East Branch and Octoraro Creek form the southern half of the border between Lancaster and Chester counties until the creek crosses the Mason-Dixon line. It winds through northwestern Cecil County, Maryland before joining the Susquehanna. Each of the branches is less than 20 miles (32 km) long. The entire creek drains 208 square miles (540 km2) of watershed. Octoraro Creek was designated a Pennsylvania Scenic River by Legislative Act 1983-43, managed by the Octoraro Creek Watershed Association. A brick tunnel leading to Octoraro Creek was built by Charles Spotts and used by slaves travelling the Underground Railway through Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

Octorara Farm is a historic home located at Conowingo, Cecil County, Maryland, United States. It was built in sections dating from the period between 1775 and 1840. The main block is a 2+1⁄2-story brick structure of high style Greek Revival architecture; it was probably added to the earlier rear section around 1830–1840. The present kitchen, which constitutes the central room of the three rooms of the rear section, is the earliest section of the house, probably dates to about 1775. Also on the property are a large four-bay fieldstone barn, a wagon shed, dairy, smokehouse, and tenant houses.Octorara Farm was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

Conowingo is a community in northwestern Cecil County, Maryland, United States. The community replaced a previous one that was inundated by a reservoir.

The Conowingo Dam (also Conowingo Hydroelectric Plant, Conowingo Hydroelectric Station) is a large hydroelectric dam in the lower Susquehanna River near the town of Conowingo, Maryland. The medium-height, masonry gravity dam is one of the largest non-federal hydroelectric dams in the U.S., and the largest dam in the state of Maryland. The dam sits about 9.9 miles (16 km) from the river mouth at the Chesapeake Bay, 5 miles (8 km) south of the Pennsylvania border and 45 miles (72 km) northeast of Baltimore, on the border between Cecil and Harford counties. The dam supports a 9,000-acre reservoir, which today covers the original town of Conowingo. During dam construction, the town was moved to its present location about 1 mile (1.6 km) northeast of the dam's eastern end. The rising water also would have covered Conowingo Bridge, the original U.S. Route 1 crossing, so it was demolished in 1927. U.S. Route 1 now crosses over the top of the dam. The Conowingo Reservoir, and the nearby Susquehanna State Park, provide many recreational opportunities.

The Thomas Richards House is a historic home located at Rising Sun, Cecil County, Maryland, United States. It is a stone and brick farmhouse; the 1+1⁄2-story kitchen section of fieldstone construction dating from the late 18th century, and the main block of brick construction, dating from the early 19th century. Also on the property is a large stone and wood three-level bank barn.The Thomas Richards House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

Colora is an unincorporated community in western Cecil County, Maryland, United States, near Conowingo and Port Deposit. The ZIP Code of this area is 21917, and has some historic houses and some new structures, including several development neighborhoods. It is also home to an apple orchard named "Colora Orchards" and to the school called West Nottingham Academy, from which former NBA player Josh Boone graduated in 2002. The school also educated famous contemporary artist Eric Fischl. Colora is the location of Colora Meetinghouse, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977. The West Nottingham Academy Historic District was listed in 1990.

The Colora Meetinghouse is a historic Friends (or Quaker) meeting house located at Colora, Cecil County, Maryland, United States. The meeting house was built in 1841 as part of a larger dispute known as the "great separation." The original members of the Colora Meeting, then called the Nottingham Preparative Meeting, sided with the orthodox Friends splitting off from the Hicksite West Nottingham Friends Meeting. The new meeting was first part of Baltimore Yearly Meeting. In 1854 it formed the Primitive Yearly Meeting with several nearby meetings and in 1890 became part of the Western Quarterly Meeting.

Conowingo Creek is a 20.2-mile-long (32.5 km) tributary of the Susquehanna River in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and Cecil County, Maryland. The name of the creek comes from the Lenape, meaning "at the rapids".It originates near the northern border of East Drumore Township and flows south, meeting Jackson Run near the southern border. It enters Fulton Township just above the birthplace of Robert Fulton, for whom the township is named. Flowing along the east side of Wakefield, it meets Little Conowingo Creek below the town, and begins to flow through hillier terrain before entering Maryland. Its valley soon deepens into a gorge as it approaches the Susquehanna. It empties into the Conowingo Reservoir at Pilot Station.

The Susquehanna Conduit or Big Inch project is a 108" water supply line built in the early 1960s, connecting the Deer Creek Pumping Station in Harford County, Maryland to Baltimore City. This pipeline runs about 38 miles, parallel to Interstate 95, from the Susquehanna River to the Montibello Pumping Station in Baltimore City.

Port Deposit is a town in Cecil County, Maryland, United States. It is located on the east bank of the Susquehanna River near its discharge into the Chesapeake Bay. The population was 653 at the 2010 census.
