Algeciras railway station

Teatro Florida is a municipal theatre in the city of Algeciras, southeastern Spain. The building was constructed between 1944 and 1945, by the architect Mariano Aznárez Torán, with an expressionist-inspired facade with a geometric design. In 2006 the old theatre underwent a full restoration, promoted by the government of the Province of Cádiz due to the poor conditions of the old building. The first event held in the theatre after rehabilitation was a local contest held on 11 December 2011, before the official reopening on December 20 of the same year.

The Hospital de la Caridad or Charity Hospital in Algeciras, Spain was built as a hospital to serve the population but today the building is preserved as part of the town's cultural heritage. It has been an arts centre but is intended to become a municipal museum.

Capilla del Cristo de la Alameda is a chapel in Algeciras, Spain. It was built in 1776 at the initiative of the priest Domingo Perez. The building was then situated along one of Algeciras's main streets of the time, Calle Alameda, and was attended by many sailors entering the port. In 1931 the church was assaulted and in subsequent years was converted into a storehouse and then an auto repair shop until the late 1990s when the city recovered it and it became the headquarters of the Municipal Museum of Sacred Art. The chapel consists of a single room and a small sacristy, and has a Baroque gabled facade.

Hotel Sevilla is a historic hotel in Algeciras, Spain. Its construction took place between 1922 and 1925 by the Madrid-based architect Emilio Antón. It is built in the neo-baroque style, with four floors. The balconies and balusters contain decorative floral motifs.Today the building is home to the González-Gaggero family and is protected as a remarkable architectural monument under Grade II of the Plan General de Ordenación Urbana (General Urban Plan of Algeciras).

Municipal Museum of Algeciras (Museo Municipal de Algeciras) is a museum in Algeciras, Spain, located at the northern end of the Parque de las Acacias de Algeciras. It was established in 1995 and is run by the city's cultural department. It houses a large collection of archaeological items which were found in different parts of the city. With its two main divisions, archaeology and history, the museum documents three periods in the city's history: Roman-Byzantine Algeciras, the Andalusian city, and the modern era. A third division, religious art, is located in the Capilla del Cristo de la Alameda.

Parque de las Acacias de Algeciras is a park in Algeciras, southeastern Spain. Established in 1975, it covers an area of 19,300 square metres (208,000 sq ft). The Museo municipal de Algeciras lies to the north and Villa Smith lies in the southern part of the park. The historic Hotel Reina Cristina overlooks the park on its western side.

The Kursaal of Algeciras is a building in the Paseo del Rio de la Miel of Algeciras, Spain. It is the work of artist Guillermo Pérez Villalta and architect Enrique Salvo. Also known as the Kursaal Congress Centre or Rio de la Miel, it was opened in 2007 after a decade of work. The building was designed in the late nineties as the seat of the Chamber of Commerce of Gibraltar but the work was halted until being rescued by the city council. The decorative details of Kursaal are largely the strength of the building, and display many mosaics depicting mythological themes of the Strait of Gibraltar area. Its lighthouse tower is accessible by a spiral staircase on the inside. The building contains the main auditorium for the council and a library. The Kursaal has become the permanent centre seat of relations between the Maghreb and the Fundación Dos Orillas (Two Shores Foundation), an agency of the provincial government whose function is to promote relations between the two sides of the Strait of Gibraltar by holding cultural activities.

The Church of Our Lady of the Palm (Spanish: Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Palma; alternates Virgen de la Palma and Virgen María, Mistica Palma) is a Roman Catholic church on the southwestern corner of the Plaza Alta in Algeciras, Spain. Listed as Bien de Interes Cultural by the Spanish Ministry of Culture in 1992, like the Spanish: Plaza Alta itself, it is an important city landmark.

The Chapel of Our Lady of Europe (Spanish: Capilla de Nuestra Señora de Europa) is a Roman Catholic chapel located in the High Square (Spanish: Plaza Alta) of Algeciras (Spain). The popularly known "Capillita de Europa" (English: Small Chapel of Europe) is considered as the foundational element of the modern city of Algeciras. It was the host of the statue of the Virgin and the Child kept in the Shrine of Our Lady of Europe from the capture of Gibraltar by the Anglo-Dutch fleet in 1704 to 1864.

The siege of Algeciras (1342–1344) was undertaken during the Reconquest of Spain by the Castillian forces of Alfonso XI assisted by the fleets of the Kingdom of Aragon and the Republic of Genoa. The objective was to capture the Muslim city of Al-Jazeera Al-Khadra, called Algeciras by Christians. The city was the capital and the main port of the European territory of the Marinid Empire. The siege lasted for twenty one months. The population of the city, about 30,000 people including civilians and Berber soldiers, suffered from a land and sea blockade that prevented the entry of food into the city. The Emirate of Granada sent an army to relieve the city, but it was defeated beside the Río Palmones. Following this, on 26 March 1344 the city surrendered and was incorporated into the Crown of Castile. This was one of the first military engagements in Europe where gunpowder was used.
