East Norfolk

The Bombardment of Yarmouth and Lowestoft, often referred to as the Lowestoft Raid, was a naval battle fought during the First World War between the German Empire and the British Empire in the North Sea. The German fleet sent a battlecruiser squadron with accompanying cruisers and destroyers, commanded by Rear Admiral Friedrich Boedicker, to bombard the coastal ports of Yarmouth and Lowestoft. Although the ports had some military importance, the main aim of the raid was to entice defending ships to sail, which could then be picked off, either by the battlecruiser squadron or by the full High Seas Fleet, which was stationed at sea ready to intervene. The result was inconclusive: nearby British forces were too small to challenge the German force and largely kept clear of the German battlecruisers, the German ships withdrew before the British fast response battlecruiser squadron or the Grand Fleet could arrive.

Breydon Water is a 514.4-hectare (1,271-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest at Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. It is a Local Nature Reserve, a Ramsar site and a Special Protection Area. It is part of the Berney Marshes and Breydon Water nature reserve, which is managed by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB).It is a large stretch of sheltered estuary. It is at the gateway to The Broads river system on the eastern edge of Halvergate Marshes. It is the UK's largest protected wetland. It is 5 km (3 mi) long and more than 1.5 km (0.9 mi) wide in places. Breydon Water is overlooked at the southern end by the remains of the Roman Saxon Shore fort at Burgh Castle. Centuries ago, Breydon Water would have been one large estuary facing the sea. At the western end the water may be considered to start at the confluence of the River Yare and River Waveney; smaller sources including The Fleet flow in from the surrounding marshland. Safe passage for boats is indicated by red and green marker posts. Unlike most of the navigable waterways in the Norfolk Broads, Breydon Water is not subject to a speed limit. At the east end of Breydon Water the river returns to a narrow channel, passing under Breydon Bridge after which it is joined by the River Bure then under Haven Bridge from where it is 4.4 km (2.7 mi) through the harbour into the North Sea.

Lynn Grove Academy (formerly Lynn Grove High School) is a secondary school with academy status, located between the Gorleston-on-Sea and Bradwell areas of Great Yarmouth in the English county of Norfolk. The school educates about 1,400 children between the ages of 11 and 16. The school was originally constructed as one main building which has been extended and other blocks and facilities such as a new library and astroturf area have been added. Following an Ofsted inspection in May 2015 the school was rated 'Requires Improvement'. Following a further inspection in May 2017 the school was rated 'Good'.

The Breydon Bridge is a road bridge carrying the A47 in Great Yarmouth across the River Yare close to Breydon Water. It replaces the former railway Breydon Viaduct which was closed in 1953 and demolished by 1963. When built in 1985, the bridge was allocated the road number A12, which ran from London to Great Yarmouth via Lowestoft and Ipswich/A14, in February 2017, the A12 was reallocated the number A47 as a Southern extension of the latter road, therefore leaving the Breydon Bridge carrying the number A47 which continues to Lowestoft before terminating at the A12.

Breydon Viaduct was a railway bridge across the River Yare near Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England that was built by the Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway (M&GN).

Yarmouth South Town, sometimes known as Yarmouth Southtown, was a railway station in Great Yarmouth, England, that is now closed. It was one of three major stations in the town, the others being Yarmouth Vauxhall and Yarmouth Beach, of which only Yarmouth Vauxhall now remains.

Gorleston North railway station was a former station on the Norfolk and Suffolk Joint Railway connecting Great Yarmouth with Lowestoft. It was located on the northern outskirts of Gorleston-on-Sea, close to Great Yarmouth. Gorleston North was closed during the Second World War following bomb damage. Trains continued to pass through the station until services were withdrawn from the line in 1970. The station was demolished after closure and the site is now occupied by the A47 road.

Gorleston Barracks is a military installation in Gorleston in Norfolk.

The Ice House is a former ice house and Grade II listed building in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England. Located by Haven Bridge on the River Yare, it was a key asset in the town’s then-strong fishing industry, and is thought to be the only ice house of its type left in the country with a capacity of 42,588 cubic feet. In 2024, it began a conversion into a National Centre for Outdoor Arts and Circus.

Haven Bridge is a bascule bridge over the River Yare in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England. Constructed from cast iron and supported by stone bascules with cast iron railings, It is owned by Norfolk County Council and operated by Peel Ports. The Ice House is located nearby.

Great Yarmouth railway station (originally Yarmouth Vauxhall) is one of two eastern termini of the Wherry Lines in the East of England, serving the seaside town of Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. The other terminus at the eastern end of the lines is Lowestoft and the western terminus, to which all trains run, is Norwich. Trains from Great Yarmouth run to Norwich via one of two routes: either via Acle, the more regularly used line, or via Reedham. Great Yarmouth is 18 miles 29 chains (29.6 km) down the line from Norwich via Acle and it is 20 miles 45 chains (33.1 km) via Reedham. The station is managed currently by Greater Anglia, which also operates all of the trains that call. There is one train per hour to Norwich off-peak, with the service increasing in frequency during peak times.

The Lydia Eva is the last surviving steam drifter of the herring fishing fleet based in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. The Great Yarmouth herring fleet had made the town the major herring port in the world in the early part of the 20th century. She is listed as part of the National Historic Fleet.
