Wester Hailes railway station is a railway station opened in 1987 by British Rail serving Wester Hailes in the city of Edinburgh, Scotland. It is located on the Edinburgh branch of the West Coast Main Line, but is not served by inter-city services - these are provided via the Shotts Line of the SPT network. The station has two platforms, connected by a stairway footbridge, and CCTV to deter crime and anti-social behaviour. It is managed by ScotRail. The staple passenger traction calling at this station is the Class 156 "Super Sprinter". As this station is part of the West Coast Main Line to Carstairs, which diverges at Mid Calder Junction, a colourful variety of CrossCountry Class 220 "Voyager", Avanti West Coast Class 221 "Super Voyager", Class 390 "Pendolino" and London North Eastern Railway Class 801s can also be seen.

Wester Hailes is an area in the south west of Edinburgh, Scotland. Wester Hailes borders on Kingsknowe and Longstone to the east. Bankhead Industrial Estate and Sighthill Park lie to the north.

Wester Hailes High School is a mixed non-denominational high school in Wester Hailes, in the South-West suburb of Edinburgh. The current principal is David Young and the roll is about 303. In addition to the school on the site, there is a swimming pool and fitness centre which are open to the public, and a youth work programme.

Wester Hailes Baptist Church is a church in the Wester Hailes area of west Edinburgh, Scotland, founded in 1971.

Juniper Green is a village on the outskirts of Edinburgh, Scotland, situated about 5.5 miles (8.9 km) south-west of the city centre. It bridges the city bypass, and extends along the foothills of the Pentlands. It is bordered by Colinton to the east, Baberton immediately to the north, and Currie to the south-west. It centres on Lanark Road, the main route leading out south-west of Edinburgh into the Central Borders. The village stands on an elevated ridge above the Water of Leith to its south. Administratively, Juniper Green falls within the jurisdiction of the City of Edinburgh Council having been officially absorbed into the city in 1920.

Juniper Green railway station was opened in 1874 and served the area of the then village of Juniper Green that now forms part of the city of Edinburgh. Although primarily built as a goods line to serve the many mills on the Water of Leith, a passenger service was provided by the Caledonian Railway using the Balerno Loop and after grouping by the London, Midland and Scottish Railway, seeing formal closure to passenger traffic shortly after nationalisation. The station lay in rural surroundings despite being only a short distance from the centre of Edinburgh and had been popular with families having a day out in the country.

Sighthill is a suburb in the west of Edinburgh, Scotland. The area is bordered by Broomhouse and Parkhead to the east, South Gyle to the north, the industrial suburb of Bankhead and the Calders neighbourhood to the west, and Wester Hailes to the south. It is sometimes included in the Wester Hailes area, while the Calders, Bankhead and Parkhead are sometimes considered parts of Sighthill. Administratively it has formed a core part of the City of Edinburgh Council's Sighthill/Gorgie ward since 2007.

Woodhall House is a Scottish mansion house, first recorded in 1707. It was also an institution run by the Society of Jesus in the late 20th century. It is situated off Woodhall Road in the Juniper Green area of Edinburgh, Scotland and is a category B listed building.

Clovenstone is a neighbourhood in southwestern Edinburgh, Scotland. It is adjacent to Wester Hailes and the A720 road. Wester Hailes Baptist Church is in Clovenstone as is a local nursing home

The Calders is a residential neighbourhood in Edinburgh, Scotland – not to be confused with the Calders of West Lothian aka West Calder, Mid Calder and East Calder, three separate villages. It is sometimes considered to be part of Wester Hailes or Sighthill, larger developments to its south and east respectively. From 2007 to 2017, it fell within the Sighthill/Gorgie multi-member ward of the City of Edinburgh Council administration along with Sighthill, but following a boundary change has been in the Pentland Hills ward since then, along with Wester Hailes.To the west of the neighbourhood is the A720 Edinburgh city bypass road, with Heriot-Watt University's main campus at Riccarton beyond. To the north, the Calders borders the A71 Calder Road, which at that point is a dual carriageway leading off the city bypass towards Gorgie and the city centre; on the other side of the A71 is the large Bankhead industrial estate. The Union Canal passes through the area, marking its western and southern boundaries. Pedestrian underpasses connect the Calders to Bankhead under the A71, and to Sighthill under the B701 Wester Hailes Road, also a dual carriageway. The presence of the three main roads and canal surrounding the area on all sides gives it a somewhat isolated character, and a roughly square territory. The Calders contains the Wester Hailes Education Centre. The bulk of the housing stock is council owned, and the area contains some of the remaining high rises in Edinburgh (Cobbinshaw House, Dunsyre House and Medwin House, all 13-storey 'slab' blocks). The majority of the other buildings are four storeys high (some in a tenement style with a common stairway serving two flats on each floor, others in cube-shaped structures with four flats on each floor off a central stairway, with a small percentage of two-storey tenements and some of the cubes built on a slope towards the canal featuring a fifth floor). All were built in the late 1960s and early 1970s to an angular design, primarily of grey concrete with dark brown features; before they were constructed, the area contained prewar prefabs.

Sighthill Stadium was a proposed stadium to be located in the Sighthill district of Edinburgh, Scotland. It would have been a multi-use stadium hosting a number of sports, principally athletics and rugby. Edinburgh Rugby were considered key potential tenants. In the published plans the new stadium was due to replace Meadowbank Stadium, which would have been sold off for housing. The scheme ran into difficulties due to opposition to the sale of Meadowbank.

Stevenson College Edinburgh, was a further education college in Edinburgh, Scotland. It was founded in 1970, and was named after famous Scottish engineer, Robert Stevenson. In 2012 it merged with Telford College and Jewel & Esk College to form part of the newly established Edinburgh College. The college had five faculties offering a wide range of subjects: Access & Continuing Education Business, Administration & Languages Creative Arts Early Education, Health & Social Care Science, Sport & EngineeringThe college welcomed approximately 17,000 students each year, of which approx. 1000 were from overseas. International Students Stevenson College Edinburgh catered to the needs of a wide range of international students from all over the world. Students could study English Language, university foundation courses as well as higher education programmes. The main intakes were in August and January every year. A summer school took place every summer through the months of June, July and August. As well as individual international students, the college could provide bespoke training to groups from overseas, including professional training in a huge range of subjects.
