The Institute for Marine Mammal Studies ("IMMS") is a research organization located in Gulfport, Mississippi, and dedicated to education, conservation, and research on marine mammals in the wild and in captivity. It was founded in 1984 as a research organization funded by Marine Life Oceanarium and its sister company Marine Animal Productions and recognized as a non-profit 501c(3) in 1995. The director since its founding has been Dr. Mobashir A. (Moby) Solangi. It has been an active participant of the Marine Mammal Health and Stranding Response Program since its inception.The Institute cares for sick and injured marine mammals in the Mississippi-Louisiana-Alabama subregion of the Gulf Coast. It also has programs for conservation, education and research on marine mammals and their environment. Every summer it holds a week-long educational day camp including activities involving dolphins, sea lions, rays, and sharks.The Institute's Ocean Adventures Marine Park, also located in Gulfport, features shows involving dolphins, sea lions, birds, stingrays, and reptiles. A dolphin encounter can be purchased there.The Institute for Marine Mammal Studies has received grants of several million dollars from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.[1], [2] It has conducted research studies in cooperation with scientists from the University of Southern Mississippi, Mississippi State, Jackson State, Oklahoma State, Portland State, University of Miami, University of California Berkeley, National Marine Fisheries Service, Naval Ocean Systems Center, Louisiana State, and the Naval Research Laboratory.

WJZD-FM (94.5 MHz), known as "JZ 94.5", is a commercial FM radio station licensed to Long Beach, Mississippi, and serving the Biloxi-Gulfport-Pascagoula radio market. It broadcasts an urban adult contemporary radio format and is owned by WJZD, Incorporated. It is the only black-owned FM station on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. WJZD-FM is a Class A FM station. It has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 6,000 watts. The studios and transmitter are on Southpark Drive in Gulfport.

WANG (1490 AM) is a radio station licensed to Biloxi, Mississippi. Owned by Telesouth Communications, it broadcasts a commercial adult hits format. The station is simulcast on 1640 WTNI, as well as translator station W292GD on 106.3 FM.

The Gulf Coast Military Academy (GCMA) was a military school in Mississippi. It was founded in 1912 by Colonel James Chappel Hardy in Gulfport, Mississippi. It ceased operation in 1976. After severe damage in Hurricane Katrina, a small part of the facility was restored and became a site for the Armed Forces Museum.

Great Southern Golf Club was an 18-hole golf course located in Gulfport, Mississippi overlooking the Mississippi Sound. Designed by Donald Ross and built in 1908, the Great Southern Golf Club was the oldest golf course in Mississippi. To satisfy mortgage debts, the land was sold at auction in 2021 to a residential developer. After 114 years of operation, the golf course closed in May 2022 due to lack of funding.

Wool Market (also Woolmarket) is an unincorporated community in Harrison County, Mississippi. Wool Market is approximately 2.7 miles (4.3 km) northwest of Biloxi and part of the Gulfport-Biloxi metropolitan area. Historically, the settlement was called "Wool Market", though presently, the one-word "Woolmarket" has been adopted, as can be observed at "Woolmarket Elementary School", and in official documents published by Harrison County government.A post office operated under the name Wool Market from 1889 to 1911 and under the name Woolmarket Rural Station from 1969 to 1982.

Gulfport Army Air Field Hangar, also known as FBO Hangar and Gulfport Municipal Airport Terminal, was constructed in 1944-45 for use in training combat crews to operate the B-29 Superfortress. Located in Gulfport, Mississippi, the hangar was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2011, and was designated a Mississippi Landmark in 2012.
