Bally railway station

Bally Halt railway station is a station of Eastern Railway in Howrah. It is 16 km away from Sealdah and 6 km from Dankuni Junction on the Sealdah–Dankuni line of Eastern Railway. It is part of the Kolkata Suburban Railway system. Dankuni and Bardhaman local train connects this place to Sealdah Station and other stations of the Sealdah main line. It is an important railway station between Dum Dum and Dankuni railway stations. It is located directly above the Bally railway station on the Howrah–Barddhaman main line and Howrah–Bardhaman chord lines, making it an important railway transportation hub.

Bally is a neighbourhood in the city of Howrah of Howrah district in the Indian state of West Bengal. Uttarpara Government High School also known as Uttarpara Rastriya Uchcha Vidyalaya (উত্তরপাড়া রাষ্ট্রীয় উচ্চ বিদ্যালয়) is a school situated in Uttarpara, a town near Serampore City in Hooghly District, West Bengal, India. It was established on the western bank of river Hooghly by Babu Jay Krishna Mukhopadhyay and Babu Raj Krishna Mukhopadhyay on 16 May 1846. The school is directly under the Government of West Bengal.

Uttarpara Jaykrishna Public Library is a district library in Uttarpara, West Bengal, India, and is the first of its kind in Asia. Located in Uttarpara, a small town on the banks of the Hoogly river, this library was established by Babu Jaykrishna Mukherjee and opened to the public in 1859. At present, the library has been declared a Group ‘A’ Library by the West Bengal State Government. Efforts are being made to have it declared an Institution of National Importance.

Little Flowers' School is a co-educational higher secondary school situated in Uttarpara, Hooghly by the river Ganges, near Uttarpara Govt. High School and Peary Mohan College on Amarendra Nath Sarani. It was established in 1981 and runs in two language mediums. The Bengali medium is a primary one and is run in the morning. The English medium which is run as the day section is a secondary school.The school was conceived as a side project of Model Education Society, a local philanthropic and charitable society. It started out as a Bengali medium school and gradually expanded its number of classes and included the English medium section. Its first Principal was Late Prof. Syamadas Mukherjee.The English medium section received its recognition from WBBSE in 2010 and WBCHSE in 2015.

Vivekananda Setu (also called Willingdon Bridge and Bally Bridge) is a bridge over the Hooghly River in West Bengal, India. It links the city of Howrah, at Bally, to Kolkata, at Dakshineswar. Completed on 1931, it is a multispan truss bridge and was built to primarily to provide direct road and rail connectivity between the Calcutta Port and the major railhead at Howrah railway station on the West bank of the Hooghly River. It is 2,887 feet (880 m) long having 9 spans in total. The famous Dakshineswar Kali Temple is situated on the banks of the Hooghly River near the bridge. The bridge is one of the four bridges linking Howrah and Kolkata. A new road bridge, the Nivedita Setu, was constructed 50 m (160 ft) downstream in 2007 due to weakening of the Vivekanada Setu caused by its ageing.

Uttarpara Amarendra Vidyapith which was established on 6 March 1939, is an institution located in Uttarpara, West Bengal in India. The institution is named after the freedom fighter late Shri Amarendra Nath Chattopadhyay, who was a resident of Uttarpara. Uttarpara Amarendra Vidyapith follows the curricula of West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (W.B.B.S.E.) and West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (W.B.C.H.S.E.) for Madhyamik and Higher Secondary respectively. It is a Bengali medium school for boys, having a student strength of 1500. Students from surrounding localities such as Hindmotor, Bally, Belur, Liluah, Ariadaha, Serampore, and Dankuni enroll here. The institute hosts a three-day-long educational exhibition every year during Saraswati Puja.

Uttarpara or Uttarpara Kotrung is a city and a municipality of Hooghly district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is a part of the area covered by Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA). Uttarpara is located at 22.67°N 88.35°E / 22.67; 88.35, within 10 km from Kolkata, the capital of the state of West Bengal. It is located along the Hooghly river, across from the Dakshineswar Kali Temple. Uttarpara is home to the Uttarpara Jayakrishna Public Library, Asia's oldest free public library.

Vivekananda's prayer to Kali at Dakshineswar is an event which occurred in September 1884 when Swami Vivekananda (then known as Narendranath Dutta), following the suggestion of Ramakrishna, went to the Kali temple of Dakshineswar with the intention to pray for financial welfare, but ultimately prayed for pure knowledge, devotion and renunciation. This event has been a subject of scholarly studies and is considered as a significant event in the life of Vivekananda, who initially revolted against idol-worship but now accepted and prayed before an idol of Kali. This incident added a new change to Narendra's devotion and knowledge. After making three attempts to seek a blessing to remove his financial problems from mother Goddess Kali, he came out with the divine statement: "Mother, I want nothing but knowledge and devotion!"
