Gage Park, Chicago

Gage Park High School is a public 4–year high school located in the Gage Park neighborhood on the south–west side of Chicago, Illinois, United States. Opened in 1939, Gage Park is operated by the Chicago Public Schools district. Gage Park serves students living within three neighboring communities: Chicago Lawn, New City and West Englewood.

The Gage Park Bungalow Historic District is a residential historic district in the Gage Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The district includes 465 Chicago bungalows and eighteen other residential buildings. The bungalows were built between 1919 and 1931, a time in which single-family homeownership became broadly accessible in Chicago; as bungalows could be mass-built affordably, they appealed to these new homeowners. Gage Park, an underbuilt neighborhood in southwest Chicago, was one of the many outlying areas of the city in which large numbers of new bungalows were built in the early twentieth century. While the bungalows have a consistent shape and are set back evenly from the street, giving the district a uniform appearance, variations in color, brick patterns, and roof forms differentiate the individual houses.The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 13, 2020.

Lithuanian Research and Studies Center (LRSC) (Lith.: Lituanistikos tyrimo ir studijų centras (LTSC)) is a non-profit scholarly research organization, which brings together varying cultural and academic organizations towards acquiring and preserving Lithuanian artifacts, documents, and other materials of cultural significance. The LRSC was created in 1982 in Chicago, Illinois to unify a number of other Lithuanian organizations. It has two facilities. Its archival, periodical, audio-visual and musicology collections are in a 7,000 square foot self-owned facility at 15533 129th St. in Lemont. Its 75,000 volume library, Lithuanian Museum, Thomas Remeikis Political Science Library, Jonas Dainauskas History Library, Milda Budrys Medical Museum, military and art archives comprise another 7,000 square feet in the Lithuanian Youth Center (Lietuvių Jaunimo Centras, 5620 S. Claremont Ave.) in Chicago, Illinois. It is funded by donations primarily from the Lithuanian American community. The center is the largest Lithuanian scholarly institution, archive, and publisher outside Lithuania. It has published over 50 scholarly books in both Lithuanian and English. The current chairman of the LRSC is Robert A. Vitas. The current president is Kristina Lapienyte. The LRSC has become a notable organization in Lithuanian studies.

On the evening of August 7, 2021, Ella French, a police officer with the Chicago Police Department, was fatally shot while conducting a traffic stop in the West Englewood community area in Chicago, Illinois. After pulling over a gray Honda CRV for an expired license plate, officers French, Carlos Yañez Jr. and Joshua Blas walked up to the vehicle, speaking with the three occupants. During the course of the stop, a struggle ensued between the rear passenger, Emonte Morgan, and officers French and Yañez, resulting in the death of French, the serious injury of Yañez and the shooting of Blas. French was the first female CPD officer to die in the line of duty since the shooting of Officer Irma Ruiz on September 22, 1988.

Western is a station on the Chicago Transit Authority's 'L' system, serving the Orange Line. It is located between the neighborhoods of Brighton Park and Gage Park. The Orange Line crosses Western Avenue three times, however the station is located at its southernmost crossing at 49th Street.

Chicago Lawn Branch is a Chicago Public Library located in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood of Chicago, in the U.S. state of Illinois. It was built in 1960 in what is now 61st Place and Kedzie Avenue. This library is also where the historical Chicago Lawn information is housed by the Chicago Lawn Historical Society. The library displays the Chicago Lawn historical collections.

Mansueto High School is a Level +1 public four-year charter high school located in Chicago, Illinois, United States. It is a part of the Noble Network of Charter Schools. It is located at West 47th street between Richmond and Mozart street in the Brighton Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side of Chicago. It is named after donors Joe and Rika Mansueto. Mansueto High School opened in 2016 at a temporary location (51st and Keeler) while its permanent building was under construction. The architectural firm, Wheeler and Kearns partnered with contractors, Bulley and Andrews, to construct the school. Mansueto opened at its permanent location in August 2017. In 2018, the school's design received a Brick in Architecture Award. The site was the former location of the RC bottling plant.

Maria High School was a private, Roman Catholic, all-girls high school in Chicago, Illinois. Its building survives and is located near Marquette Park and Holy Cross Hospital, within the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago.

Robert Lindblom Math & Science Academy High School (LMSA) (formerly known as Lindblom Technical High School) is a public 4–year selective enrollment high school and middle school located in the West Englewood neighborhood on the south side of Chicago, Illinois, United States. Lindblom is operated by the Chicago Public School system. The school originally constructed in 1919 is named for Robert Lindblom, a nineteenth-century Swedish–born trader on the Chicago Board of Trade. Designated for students intended to enter vocations in industrial and skilled trades, in the later 20th century, it developed curricula to prepare students for college and was known as Lindblom College Prep High School. The Chicago City Council approved the designation of the Lindblom Building as a Chicago landmark by the Commission on Chicago Landmarks on June 9, 2010.

Chicago Lawn is one of the 77 community areas of Chicago, Illinois. It is located on the southwest side of the city. Its community neighbors include Gage Park, West Englewood, Ashburn, and West Lawn. It is bounded by Bell Avenue on the east, Central Park Avenue on the west, 59th Street on the north, and 75th Street on the south, and is 13 km (8.1 mi) southwest of the Loop. Local citizens refer to the area as "Marquette Park," after the park in its center.

Kedzie is an 'L' station on the CTA's Orange Line. It is located between the neighborhoods of Brighton Park and Gage Park.

Holy Cross Hospital is a 160-bed general medical Roman Catholic hospital located in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood of South Side, Chicago, Illinois, at 68th Street and California Avenue. It is part of the Sinai Chicago hopsital system.
