Golcar (pronounced gɔʊkə(r)) is a village on a hillside crest above the Colne Valley in the Metropolitan Borough of Kirklees in West Yorkshire, England, 3 miles (5 km) west of Huddersfield, and just north of the River Colne and the Huddersfield Narrow Canal. The 2021 population census lists the village as having 18,725 permanent residents. . The main transport access is from the A62 (Manchester Road), through Milnsbridge in the valley bottom or via Scapegoat Hill from the A640 (New Hey Road) at the top of the hill. The township of Golcar consists of Bolster Moor, Golcar, Wellhouse, Pole Moor and Scapegoat Hill.

Golcar railway station is a former railway station serving Golcar in West Yorkshire, England that was located between the existing Huddersfield and Slaithwaite stations. Along with several other stations on this stretch of line, it was closed to passengers on 7 October 1968 – a result of the Beeching Axe. No trace of the station remains, though there have been calls to rebuild the station here to serve the village and also neighbouring Milnsbridge.

Cowlersley is a district 2 miles (3.2 km) west of Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England. It is situated between Milnsbridge and Linthwaite and south of the A62 and the River Colne. The name Cowlersley means 'a charcoal burner's wood' and was first recorded in 1226.The district has a primary school which was inspected by Ofsted in 2013 and listed as "requiring improvement".Its main claim to fame is that the former British prime minister Harold Wilson was born and lived in Cowlersley in his early childhood, at 4 Warneford Road.

Longwood is a village and suburb of the town of Huddersfield in the English county of West Yorkshire. It is situated some 2.5 miles (4.0 km) west of Huddersfield town centre, in the valley of the Longwood Brook, a tributary of the River Colne. The village is the home of the Longwood Sing, an annual event, where choirs from around the area gather to sing hymns and songs. Near the amphitheatre, where the sing takes place, the folly Nab End Tower can be found. The tower was built in 1861 by unemployed local woollen mill workers. In 2008 it was restored by Kirklees Metropolitan Borough Council at a cost of £200,000.There are also three reservoirs that supply Huddersfield. They were built around 1840, although strengthening work in the 1930s makes them appear newer. One now covered and the lower reservoir looking more like a natural lake that is called a compensation reservoir - 'Compensation' as it was set up to compensate the mill owner for water lost from natural sources that now went to the main reservoirs to be distributed by the water corporation under 'rates' systems - although the mill owner was most likely the owner of the main reservoir too. During the 1840s, Longwood was the home to the Hanson family of Ballroyd. Mary Hanson set up a carrying business to supplement her husband's income from farming and soon the Hanson wagons were seen taking the Great North Road to London. James Hanson, founder and former chairman of Hanson plc, is a direct descendant of the Ballroyd family. When he was made a life peer, he took the title Baron Hanson of Edgerton after the nearby suburb of Edgerton. Longwood was built up around the woollen industry and its mills, most of which have now been demolished and replaced by housing. As a result of this the village has recently seen an influx of new inhabitants. In 2005, a campaign was mounted to save the Longwood allotment plots (situated behind the Mechanics' Institute) from being developed into housing.Longwood Church is dedicated to St. Mark, and is in the Church of England parish of Huddersfield, being a perpetual curacy. Longwood is also home to the 27th Longwood Scout Group. The name Longwood derives from Old English Lang wudu, meaning "The Long Wood".

Huddersfield New College is a former grammar school and current sixth form college located in Salendine Nook on the outskirts of Huddersfield, in the county of West Yorkshire, England. The current principal is Doctor Alban. On 17 May 2016 the college was assessed as 'Outstanding' in all 6 inspection domains following an OFSTED review. They are the first Sixth Form College to receive such an accolade under the new (September 2016) inspection framework. Huddersfield New College is situated to the west of the town, on New Hey Road (A640) less than a mile from junction 23 of the M62. It should not be confused with Huddersfield Technical College, which became Kirklees College in 2008. In 2019 the college was recognised as the TES 6th Form College of the Year.

The Colne Valley Museum is located within the Colne Valley at Golcar, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England. The museum consists of four converted 19th century weavers' cottages. The museum provides an insight into what life was like for a weaver in the early 1850s. The museum includes a clog maker's workshop, a handloom chamber, a spinning room, a cropping room, kitchen and living rooms. The museum is run entirely by voluntary members.

Salendine Nook High School Academy is a large secondary school in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England. It is adjacent to Huddersfield New College.

Linthwaite (known as Linfit in the local community) is a village in Kirklees, West Yorkshire, England. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, it is situated 4 miles (6.4 km) west of Huddersfield, on the A62 in the Colne Valley. The village together with Blackmoorfoot had a population of 3,835 according to the 2001 census. The River Colne, Huddersfield Narrow Canal, the Huddersfield to Manchester railway line and A62 main road all pass near to the village. After they were constructed, textile mills were then built to produce cloth making use of the river. This led to the growth of the village. Linthwaite Hall on Linfit Fold was built around 1600. Currently, it is a busy village with five pubs, including the Sair Inn, a traditional pub, formerly known as the 'New Inn' and now one of the few 'own brew' pubs still in the country. It won the CAMRA National Pub of the Year Award in 1997. Linthwaite is believed to be given where the surname Dyson started in 1316.Blackmoorfoot Reservoir, at the top of Gilroyd Lane, is a wintering site for migrating wildfowl and wading birds.

Quarmby is a district of Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England. It is situated 2 miles west of Huddersfield town centre between Oakes, Paddock and Longwood. The holders of the manor in the reign of Edward the Confessor 1042–66 were Gamel and Godwin, but the landlord at the time of the Domesday Book was Ilbert de Lacy. The Lacy family in Normandy derived their name from the commune of Lassy, the Lacius or Latius estates in the county of Calvados. The village of Lassy today is near the town of Vire in France. The name, originally Cornbei, is said to have been given by de Lacy.

Salendine Nook is an area of Huddersfield in West Yorkshire, England. It is 2 miles (3 km) to the north-west of central Huddersfield, and is bordered to the north-east by Laund Hill, Weather Hill and Low Hill and to the south-west by the natural scar of Longwood Edge, above the suburb of Longwood. Longwood Edge affords a panoramic view across the Colne Valley to Crosland Moor on the other side. Salendine Nook lies between Quarmby and Outlane on a tributary to the textile industries' Packhorse road across the Pennines. Architecturally, the area features traditional weavers' cottages exhibiting vestiges of workshop entrances near the cross roads at its centre as well as dwellings associated with potteries and farms. Huddersfield New College and Salendine Nook High School are both situated at Salendine Nook, with their playing fields extending out to Longwood Edge.
