The Ryukyu Kingdom was a kingdom in the Ryukyu Islands from 1429 to 1879. It was ruled as a tributary state of imperial China by the Ryukyuan monarchy, who unified Okinawa Island to end the Sanzan period, and extended the kingdom to the Amami Islands and Sakishima Islands. The Ryukyu Kingdom played a central role in the maritime trade networks of medieval East Asia and Southeast Asia despite its small size. The Ryukyu Kingdom became a vassal state of the Satsuma Domain of Japan after the invasion of Ryukyu in 1609 but retained de jure independence until it was transformed into the Ryukyu Domain by the Empire of Japan in 1872. The Ryukyu Kingdom was formally annexed and dissolved by Japan in 1879 to form Okinawa Prefecture, and the Ryukyuan monarchy was integrated into the new Japanese nobility.

Tomigusuku Castle (豊見城城, Tomigusuku jō, Okinawan: Tumigushiku) is a Ryukyuan gusuku in Tomigusuku, Okinawa. It was built in about 1400 by Ououso, then King of Nanzan, and is now a ruined castle. The castle is not far off of Highway 58.

Yamashita First Cave Site Park (山下洞穴遺跡公園, Yamashita Dōketsuiseki Kōen) is an urban park in Naha, Okinawa. The park was opened by the city in December 2015. An opening inauguration ceremony was held on January 8, 2016 in Yamashita Town, Naha. The 900 m2 (9,687.52 sq ft) park was created through private land purchases by the city which cost an estimated 100 million yen.

The Gusuku Sites and Related Properties of the Kingdom of Ryukyu (琉球王国のグスク及び関連遺産群, Ryūkyū ōkoku no gusuku oyobi kanren'isangun) is an UNESCO World Heritage Site which consists of nine sites all located in the Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. The heritage sites include two utaki (or sacred sites, one a gate and the other a grove), the Tamaudun mausoleum, one garden, and five gusuku castles sites, four of which are ruins and one of which is a reconstruction. The sites were inscribed based on the criteria that they were a fine representation of the Ryūkyū Kingdom's culture, whose unique blend of Japanese and Chinese influence made it a crucial economic and cultural junction between several neighboring states.

Okinawa Cellular Stadium, originally known as Naha City Ohnoyama Baseball Stadium, is a multi-purpose stadium in Naha, Japan. It is currently used mostly for baseball matches. The stadium was originally opened in 1959, but was renovated in 2010. It has a capacity of 30,000 spectators.

Okinawa Prefectural College of Nursing (沖縄県立看護大学, Okinawa kenritsu kango daigaku) is a public university in Naha, Okinawa, Japan. The predecessor of the school was founded in 1946, and it was chartered as a university in 1999.

The Okinawa Prefecture Government Building (Japanese: 沖縄県庁舎, Hepburn: Okinawakenchōsha) is one of the tallest buildings in Naha City, Okinawa, Japan, and is the center for Japanese governmental functions stretching across Okinawa Prefecture. There are 14 floors above ground and two below including a civic hall and government information center. The top floor houses a cafeteria where a panoramic view of Naha City can be seen. The building opened in 1990 and cost nearly 22 billion yen (about 200 million USD). It was designed by architect Kisho Kurokawa.

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Naha(Latin: Nahana, Japanese: カトリック那覇教区) is a Latin suffragan diocese in the Ecclesiastical province of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Nagasaki 長崎, in southern Japan. Its cathedral episcopal see is the Cathedral of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (Kainan Church), located in the city of Naha (on and administrative capital of Okinawa).

Naha (那覇市, Naha-shi, Japanese: [naꜜha], Okinawan: Nāfa or Nafa) is the capital city of Okinawa Prefecture, the southernmost prefecture of Japan. As of 1 June 2019, the city has an estimated population of 317,405 and a population density of 7,939 persons per km2 (20,562 persons per sq. mi.). The total area is 39.98 km2 (15.44 sq mi) Naha is located on the East China Sea coast of the southern part of Okinawa Island, the largest of Okinawa Prefecture. The modern city was officially founded on May 20, 1921. Before that, Naha had been for centuries one of the most important and populous sites in Okinawa. Naha is the political, economic and education center of Okinawa Prefecture. In the medieval and early modern periods, it was the commercial center of the Ryūkyū Kingdom.

Okinawa Prefectural Library (沖縄県立図書館, Okinawa Kenritsu Toshokan) opened in Naha, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan in 1910. Iha Fuyū was the first director. The library reopened in a new building in 1983. As of 2016, the collection numbers some 708,000 items, of which almost a fifth are on open access.
