Dykebar Hospital

Dykebar is a small residential estate at the south-easternmost periphery of Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland, close to the local authority boundaries with both East Renfrewshire and Glasgow. It is situated next to the Hawkhead area, with other neighbourhoods in the vicinity including Thornly Park, Lochfield, Hunterhill and Blackhall. Dykebar is home to Paisley's general psychiatric hospital, and is approximately 1.2 miles (1.9 km) from both Barrhead and Nitshill. Dykebar is a primarily residential area 1.8miles/3 km south east of Paisley off the A726. The area remained rural until after World War II. Map references to Dykebar date back from at least 1596 until after 1640.

Dykebar was a railway station in the Dykebar area to the south of Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland. The station was originally part of the Paisley and Barrhead District Railway . The line was opened in 1897 and used by coal trains until the 1960s but none of the stations including this one opened for passenger travel. It was situated on the east boundary of what are now the grounds of St Andrews school around 200 yards along Hawkhead Road from its junction with Barrhead Road. The station was converted to a two-room and kitchen house before being dismantled by vandals in the late 1960s. The line through Dykebar from Blackbyres to Paisley East goods closed on 31 December 1960.Railway photographer Norris Forrest visited the area in February 1960 taking pictures of the station platform, a passenger shelter and a train. By observing Ross House (which is still there) behind the shelter it is possible to pinpoint the original position of the station. There is no sign of the concrete platform today, the only structure on the site being a wall. Other railway artifacts can be seen on the satellite image in the adjoining field including a bridge which would have taken trains into Hawkhead Hospital. St. Andrews school is in the background.

St Andrew's Academy is a Roman Catholic secondary school in Hawkhead, Paisley, Scotland. The school was opened in 1990, with its importance growing in 2001 when St Mirin's and St Margaret's High School closed. New buildings were completed in 2006. It has eight feeder primary schools in the town. The current headteacher is Mr Kevin Henry.In 2008, the pupil roll was 1145. By 2017, this had risen to a full capacity of 1260, causing a situation when local children who applied to attend the school but were not in the associated primaries were subject to a ballot, with some being denied a place even when their older siblings were already pupils there.Marion Arnott, mystery, science fiction and fantasy writer is a teacher at the academy.

Hawkhead Hospital was a health facility on Hawkhead Road in Hawkhead, Renfrewshire, Scotland. The complex is Grade B listed.

Abbey, or sometimes Abbey Paisley, is a civil parish in Renfrewshire, Scotland traditionally centred on the towns of Paisley and Johnstone and including the smaller settlements of Elderslie, Inkerman, Hurlet, Nitshill, the Dovecothall area of Barrhead, and the hamlets of Thorn and Quarrelton, now subsumed into Johnstone. The parish owes its name to Paisley Abbey, the central religious site in the county and the parish church.The town of Paisley fell entirely within the Abbey Parish until 1736, when three parishes were formed within the burgh: High, Middle and Laigh (Low). A small portion of the Abbey Parish remained within the burgh after this time. For religious purposes, the towns of Johnstone and Elderslie formed their own quoad sacra parishes.

The River Cart Aqueduct, sometimes known as the Blackhall Bridge, is a railway bridge and former navigable aqueduct in Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland. It opened in 1811 as an aqueduct to carry the Glasgow, Paisley and Johnstone Canal over the White Cart Water. Following the closure of the canal in 1881, it was converted to a railway bridge in 1885, and now carries the Paisley Canal Line. It is registered as a Category A listed building by Historic Environment Scotland.

Blackhall Manor is a tower house in Paisley in Renfrewshire, in the western central Lowlands of Scotland. It dates to the sixteenth century, although parts may be older, and formerly belonged to the Stewart or Shaw-Stewart family. It was designated as a Category B listed building in 1971.

Charleston is a district in the burgh of Paisley in Renfrewshire, Scotland. Once a village distinct from Paisley, Charleston has become absorbed as Paisley has expanded, in particular by housing developments in Lochfield and Glenburn. Until the 1990s, Charleston was a mixed area of housing, industry and people were involved in stripping. However, the closure of several factories and the development of their sites for modern housing, has significantly changed the character of the area. Housing on Neilston Road, Stock Street and Espedair Street provide typical examples of Scottish tenement flats. Three to four storeys tall, with shops on the ground floor and constructed of local blond sandstone, these tenement flats have been extensively restored and modernised since the 1980s. The Iain Banks novel, Espedair Street, takes its name from the street in Charleston and is partly set in the district. Locally the area is nicknamed "Kentucky".

Hawkhead railway station is a railway station in the Seedhill area of Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland. The station is managed by ScotRail and lies on the Paisley Canal Line, 6½ miles (10 km) west of Glasgow Central.

Dunterlie Park was a football ground in Barrhead, Scotland. It was the home ground of Arthurlie between 1906 and 1919, and was the second of three grounds to bear the same name.

Hawkhead (Scots: Hauchheid, Scottish Gaelic: Ceann an Dail) is an area near Paisley in Renfrewshire, Scotland. The village is on the Hawkhead Burn and White Cart Water, crossed via Hawkhead Bridge. It is near Dykebar, Hunterhill and Blackhall neighbourhoods and is the source of the name of Hawkhead railway station on the Paisley Canal Line, although the station is some distance to the north of the residential area, on the opposite side of a cleared industrial zone (formerly a BASF plant) and a large cemetery, also named Hawkhead.

Hawkhead Castle was a castle existing in the 17th century, about 1 mile (1.6 km) east of Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland, south of the White Cart River.It may also be known as Hawkhead House. There are no remains.
